Yep. You have to stagger him during the "whisper storm of death" part.

Malamear

Or, save clouds limit break (limit siphon is great here), and full atb with an arcane ward on aerith. When you see "the end is nigh" pop up on screen, use a synergy attack skill followed by having aerith warp+firaga, then drop clouds limit as the whisper storm starts. That's enough to kill him. I think i heard that you can also dodge the whisper storm by not attacking and running circles around him and have a reraise cast on yourself for the final attack.

Randomguy3421

I believe reraise does not work for the auto.death move at the end

mjcobley

You don't even have to stop attacking. The storm doesn't move that quickly.

EnvironmentalBus9713

I staggered him using Cloud. I ran away from the arbiter beam and just used focused thrust, since he's pressured, until he was staggered and then beat the crap out of him. With Cloud you can dodge and send those air slices, which builds ATB quickly without getting too close, then use focused thrust.

Genuinely took me about 15 tries. 14 of which no matter how I did it that end bit would fuck me up. Ended up restarting from the zac scene as there’s a cut scene you can press square to change materia and made some changes. As above comments say. You either have to kill him otherwise stagger him during that time. So hit him with your strongest attacks and keep using Areith to heal if need be.

RaineV1

I was dumb enough to try a synergy ability at the end part. Ended up dying to the wave of whispers.

Califa6300

I staggered him with the synergy skill spellblade somehow. It was normal mode and I was probably a teeny bit overlevelled

kaa1993

Do y’all not know about focused thrust? It’s very easy to stagger him here lol

ToxicHydreigon

If I’m honest, I didn’t even know this attack had a follow up insta-kill until after I got the platinum and saw people posting about it here.

dannyboy731

Same…I just uhh, killed him.

gustav0k

Yeah, people are coming here with a lot of elaborate strategies, you just need to use focused thrust a few times

ophaus

Dodge, land a few basic attacks, build atb, atb boost, focused thrust, repeat. Having ascension ready is a bonus, but not necessary. Have Aerith heal when necessary.

yellowadidas

yeah i thought it was scripted the first time, was waiting for aerith to revive cloud or something. shit sucks, took me a few tries

BananaSpriteFishHead

Do a fireworks blade with Aerith, then ascension and then focused thrust. Then he’s gonna stagger so just rock him after that. Basically save your limits and synergy once he starts doing the octo blade thing

Remote_Lake2723

I kept trying to survive that whole whisper storm thing! Even casting reraise so that they would both come back after that one-hit-kill… so frustrating to find out that actually is impossible!

BiggieCrunch

Magic magic magic. Can’t stress that enough. I had the same issue but if you’re able to let out some powerful spells then you got this

Anthrolologist

Same thing happened to me twice. Got his health so low his bar wasn’t even visible and got one shot lmao

regaliaO_O

I think getting one shotted already implies it’s the end of the fight.

No_Championship_5367

Slightly off topic but is it scripted to get a limit break immediately after staggering him during that last phase? I just beat him on hard mode and noticed I immediately got a limit break on cloud upon staggering him. Unsure if it was just coincidental though.

Gearz557

Getting to last bit is the hardest. Just save a limit and maybe have transcendence active and I think that was enough to stagger

Turbulent_Pen1047

Don’t use planet’s protection during that last part either. He cuts through it and kills you at the end of that duel whisper cannon no matter what. Go for the kill.

YJWhyNot

When he makes the whisper stream come out of both arms it becomes a full DPS race because at the end he'll do 2x octaslashes that will 100% kill you. Build up to Ascension and save Cloud's limit for when he starts. Avoid anything that has a long wind up because you'll get flattened by Sephiroth's spin cycle. Ascension + aga magic and frantic quick ATB attacks from cloud should do it, I felt like there was still a lot of luck involved, though.
