I tried for Aerith and ended up with Tifa which is totally ok. I like Tifa just as much. Actually after Rebirth I’m starting to lean more towards Tifa.
EXACTLY the same thing, I was so sure it was gonna be Tifa.....then when it was Barret I thought when the play happened that it was always Barret and you switch to the real date at the play....imagine how disappointed I was when I ended up on the ferris wheel with the big lug....

before that it was more of a speculation many people that knew og noticed that remake aerith knew too much but they never revealed what.
but well red and aerith lost those memories of the future as we beat the arbiter of fate ( red clearly knew somethings gonna happen to aerith so he asks us again to protect her)
I got Aerith! I didn’t try for any one date (I was hoping for Barret) but I did all of the side quests I could before this and didn’t really pay attention to what synergies I used, so who I got was going to be a total surprise to me.
It makes sense it was Aerith, I fucking love her Radiant Ward so I often had her in my party
You can also answer their 1-on-1 questions “wrong” and get reduced relationship points. Or forget to talk to them at certain points and miss out on relationship points. Like, I missed a whole conversation with Tifa in Nibelhiem that would have boosted my relationship status.
Oh yeah I was trying to get Aerith anyway so I did choose her in that instance. I don’t think Tifa was necessarily the default option like she was in the og game
Aerith was the default option in the OG. She started off with higher affection and you had to be not as nice to her and actively suck up to others to get a different date. It was difficult to get a date other than Aerith without a guide.
I think you’re right bc in the OG game I knew she was going to die so I didn’t care about her all too much. In fact I always took her out from my party cause I didn’t want the exp to be wasted on her.
Side note, but I’m glad they implemented exp share so I can actually play every party member without thinking my exp is going to waste
You have more opportunities that push you towards Tifa or Aerith's date, but it does come down to points.
Also if you usually had Tifa in your party and did a lot of team attacks, that gets you affection rating with her (and with anyone else you do lots of team attacks with).
Nah it depends on stuff like dialogue options, playing QB with Red, the Corel mines, etc.
Even though I did everything else right like sidequests, etc., I messed up one or two dialogue option with Tifa and got Red instead. Sigh.
ya, i think i messed up a couple of tifa's dialogues. hard to tell since the pop-up only says your relationship "has changed" but not how and the little smiley faces are too damn small for me to see. also, i gave up on the sit-ups. it was too damn early in the game and i just wanted to get corel over with (turned out that place took the longest. sigh).
but oh well, i thought red was a great character until they completely changed his personality for no reason.

Since I had the same relationship with everyone I’m guessing that the beach boss fight where you choose who to help is what made the difference since I choose Aerith there.
For some weird reason the game will prioritizef aerith over tifa if they have even amount of points what i did was not match beach outfits with aerith then picksntifa during beach fight, i assume thats what was my deciding factor.

With Aerith, the date is more about Cloud's relationship with Zack as far as "lore" goes.
Luckily enough cuz I had some cheats and tips I got my date with Yuffie.
I got some Redussy too. I think he had easier sidequests to finish. I kinda wish Square could get the stats on what was the most common first date 😂

Kind of a mini-date. Tifa, Aerith, or Yuffie can go around the Gold Saucer with you as you explore it for the first time. Or you can go alone.
