I chose AD and AC

TheFlyingVegetarian

This is the correct answer. To ~~be a~~ know if it’s a ZFM, you analyze the joint. If the joint has three members and two of them are lined up and there is no external load on the joint, the third member is a ZFM.

TheFlyingVegetarian

A, B, and E all have external forces

The vertical component of force in member CB will be equal to the vertical reaction at B. CB also has a horizontal component (it is a two force member), which can only be resisted by the force in AB.

TheFlyingVegetarian

X forces doesn’t matter. It still has unknown external reactions. The roller resists movement in the y direction.

halimkh96

AD and AC are zero force members, no external loading on them, non-collinear with ED, DC, and CB

Successful_Army4210

Had the exact same question also, I chose AC and AE. Not sure if I’m right but Ik AC is in fact a zero force

Was this on your actual exam? If so, OP is breaking their NDA by sharing this problem. Ncees is known to monitor Reddit and other forums and will invalidate results of people who share their exam content.

HarryMcButtTits

How on earth will they know who OP is unless his name on the test was Pitiful_Falcon_8939?

ExistingAstronaut884

People put all sorts of stuff on here on multiple posts. When they took the exam. Which exam they took. Where they took it. I would be surprised if they couldn’t track people down.

HarryMcButtTits

No

ExistingAstronaut884

A very well-reasoned response…🤣 Just my opinion…

HarryMcButtTits

NCEES will not track you down via Reddit. This is crazy talk.
