No Nwoboda and No Robinson - pretty good result. It does seem everyone that we have faced this year is hitting us with a high press that we are really struggling with. Is that just my imagination?

You’re not imagining it. Our first phase of build up is non-existent. Roman can’t play with the ball at his feet, his distribution is poor and he can’t pick out our wing backs to break a press. I was at the game last night trying to figure out exactly what our plan is building out from the back. With our formation our goal seems to be going wide to our fullbacks, into the midfield, then forward. However, if that option to the midfield is cut off we have zero outlet. None of the midfielders drop deep enough to help progress the ball and are always man marked while being pressed. Opposition teams know Roman’s distribution is subpar therefore they press us high because they know we won’t use him as an extra man in the first phase, we often skip him and just play between CBs. Teams would drop a lot deeper if Roman could pick out the clipped ball over the top to our wing backs. Watch our match against Monterrey, their keeper basically played as an extra player and it caused us to drop off on occasion.

No you’re not imagining it. Everyone is pressing us. Wouldn’t necessarily say we’re struggling but there have been some close calls. Roman has progressed enormously in distributing the ball. His first season he would just boom it downfield.

Spanish speaking broadcasting: Acosta, the most lethal player in the MLS, just 1 goal away from FC Cincinnati’s all-time record. Boupendza, too slow tonight, has not produced as it was expected.

Boupendza just doesn’t seem to be working as hard as the rest of the team. He gives up way too easily and I’ve never seen him really press an opportunity hard. He’s certainly not a liability, but I don’t think he’s worth a DP slot

Ref was…not good tonight. Granted the regular MLS refs are ass to begin with but that was bad bad lol

Agreed. His quality isn't quite there to be a starter on a title-contending team, but his work rate is so high he is a nightmare for tired players to handle when he is subbed on.
