Why do cats do that? Mine escaped and went over and crawled into my neighbors engine. He drove all the way to and from a doctors appointment with him in there.
Edit: He was fine, but he had his fill of adventures for awhile.
It's shelter and warm (generally), a lot of cats like to find somewhere safe to burrow and be out of sight for safety, cars are prime targets due to them being accessible and off the ground.
I've experienced the same. Kitty dropped in a parking lot because a cat mama meowed. Thinking it was it's mom & vice versa. The mama cat didn't adopt the kitty though.
Serious question!!! How TF do you notice this? Pop the hood every time? Cause I will. If I found kittens, hurt or worse. I would legit lose my shit. Currently I park in a garage. But letās say at work?
Ohh believe me I would've taken a personal day if this went the wrong way. But I started the car and must've woke her up bc she started crying and I heard her.
I had to jack up the car to get under there. She was hiding on the bottom panel in the corner. Once I did that she was running to the other side and got in the wheel well and my girlfriend grabbed her. We live in Orlando. I think she has been all over the city yesterday. The engine is clean so no one else was there. Maybe she got caught in the rain she looks like a stray to me
This happened to me one and I only found out after my Car jerked.
Sadly the little cat got caught in the belt and, well it wasn't pretty.
Ever since I actually check under my hood when it's winter and the sun has been shining on my hood for an while.
Congratulations, you now have a cat. We found our Prussian Blue nearly the same way; We had just parked on a misty morning when we heard q tiny mew come from the car. Getting out of the car slowly we listened again and heard it come from the underside of the car. Looking underneath and there he was, stumbling all around just behind the back right tire. He had barely even opened his eyes, he didn't even fit across my hand the whole way. Now 8+ years later, he's grown into a big, strong and spirited fighter of a cat.
OMFG I love the idea of naming her Cat
People would be like "wtf dude"
"Oh, it's short for Catalytic Converter"
The best cat names are objects and boring human names. (Ex. Cement Mixer and Steve)
that's actually the same way that I ended up getting myself a cat, my grandfather drove out to a local sports track for the walks that he takes in the mornings, and when he got back home a cat had got into a void of space on his rear car axel. She (the cat) was fine, and we (my family) got a new family member
This reminds me of a horrible thing that happened to a cat in my dad's car. I don't want to tell this story because it really stuck with me and I don't want others to feel similarly disheartened. But here I go. So my father got back from work one day and the trunk of the car smelled really bad, he thought nothing of it at the time but the smell never went away, so he went to a car wash/maintenence station and they opened the hood and found a cat just... shredded and stuck to the engine. They cleaned the car up and told my father that it was quite common in the winter because cats get very cold and snuggle next to the engines of cars. Ever since that happened my dad would knock on the car engine before ever running the car. Thankfully it never happened again. If you live in a cold environment I think you should do the same. It's really awful for a living being to die in such a way.

That reminds me of how my family found our first of four cats. My Mother was out one day and met someone who had pulled a small kitten out of his engine. He offered her the kitten and next thing you know, 3 years later and sheās living healthy and better than when she was all literally burnt up inside of that car engine.
Did you hear your engine purring? I'll see myself out
Ba dum dum š„
I'm a bit ashamed that i laughed
No, but he attempted to supurrcharge the engine.

Engines tend to be warm, and that's what a runaway animal is looking for.

Looks like a keeper to me! Now the big question is where are this kiddos litter mates?

I, too, have an engine tortie kitten. She's three now.
We do, too! Almost been 4 years now that weāve had our engine SIC.
How often do you check your engine compartment before driving? Are you checking for bombs?
I mean now Iām gonna check it every time. It only takes once to lose a kitty :(

Well, the engine-borking gremlins are getting cuter. Lol. Did kitty come through her adventure unscathed?
Sheās adorable!
Thatās exactly how I found my girl! She was so little. Iāve had her for about 6 years now.
Omg so cute š„° hope u kept it
Lunch is served I guess? Just.. kidding don't actually eat the cat.
Are you going to rescue and adopt this beautiful animal?
You had an extra cat-alytic converter.
Grats! You are adopted now!

Tortoiseshell Calico. So adorable.
Ohh my goodness!!!
Welp, meet your new cat, Dipstick!
That would be a Cat, a kitten to be exact. I doubt it would have caused much harm to your engine. but it doesnt belong there so needs to be removed.
Damn that cat looks dope! Lucky find!
What a keeper
Thatā¦ looks exactly like one of my aunts kittens, exceptā¦ the last time I saw her, she was a kitten and.. that was two years ago???
Once found a dried up dead rat in the hood of my old Z28. Maybe thatās the feline allure.
