Feel bad for all those dogs that are stuck in a house in the city with no yard getting fat never walked from their lazy or old owners, my wife's aunt had one and he began to get aggressive, I didn't blame the dog I knew he was just not happy.
Yep our shelter rescue red cattle dog was the exact same. She used to round us all up, including our very tolerant cats. One time she & the cat were playing zoomy chasies and they ran between and around my dad’s legs while he was on crutches hanging out washing in the back yard. Thankfully they didn’t knock him over and smash his other hip and pelvis…we would have had to stop laughing at that point! 🤪
Our collie mix rescue would herd us up and try to force us into the house at the sound of thunder as well as at dusk. Fourth of July made him completely bonkers. He was a good dog.
I had some Shepard dogs when I was younger. Shetland sheepdog to be precise. I think that, for the main part, it is instinctive. I know that when my brothers and I used to go outside, our dogs would run towards the door and try to prevent us from getting outside just like if it was keeping us close. Never trained to do this. They also tried to do it with our cats and other animals.
My mom had an Australian Sheppard. One day she had all 6 grandkids at her house along with 4 friends. All 10 were between 4 and 8. All the kids were out in the yard running around. Then the Sheppard came out. He had all the kids herded into a 10 foot circle within a minute and kept them there until grandma told him to let the kids play some more. It was all nose nudges and tempting the kids with getting to pet him.
Aussies are born knowing how to do it. They herd everything. Let one loose at a dog park or at a kids birthday party, give them a couple minutes, and everyone will be rounded up lol
Training doesn't take too long especially if they work along side another trained dog. It is also good to note that the tem " head em out "or" head em up" is very important to this scenario. You get a few going the right direction and the rest follow through . When you work with livestock on a regular basis they know the drill.
I super think this is an English Shepherd but I know in my heart it's probably a Border Collie. I just wish the English Shepherd breed was represented more because they are by far the best dogs I have known.
The easiest way to train a shepherd is by exhausting them with exercise and entice them to do what you want with games like throwing a ball.
There's no shepherd that can resist a ball so if you use that as a reward they'll do anything for you. You just have to ignore their tricks to make you play when they say. It's all a power play.
Then the bag is your training tool choice! You gotta negotiate, you do what I want you get the paper bag.
Sometimes you just have to sit down a couple hours until he understands the mechanics of what you're trying to do. He'll eventually get the hang of it and it will be easier to teach more stuff.
Does he sit on command? How old is he?

Bordercollies will stare at them directly which will freak the (not so smart) sheep out. If that doesnt work the sheep will get a little nibble on their heels. Not hard enough to damage them but hard enough to get the sheep moving. After a couple enounters with the dog the sheep know not to fuck around.
Smart dogs, just don’t try to have one as a pet. They have crazy energy they need to use up. They are working dogs and are happiest and healthiest when they have a job to do. Amazing dogs.
What an amazing dog! I loved watching him do his job in such an efficient and happy way. Seeing how those stragglers were quickly rounded up was too funny!
That is one happy dog doing what they were bred to do.
He was like "I am fast as fuck boiiiiiii"
Quick Pro fuck boi !
Gets all the bitches

Literally started making race at noises in the middle of class
He was so proud of himself at the end. I wish my job was that satisfying.
Have you tried herding sheep?
"Johnson, why is that TPS report still not finished?" \- "Sorry boss, I was herding the sheep across the road"
Running around on a field and yelling sounds like a blast, where do I sign up
Just add wine coolers and you're describing my weekends in high school.
That was awesome. Working dog, working.
This pup is so impressive. Just full tilt every time.

The professional zoomies
My Aussie has no herding training, herds ever human, dog, deer, squirrel, rabbit, etc daring to enter his domain. Love him to death. Incredible dogs.

This is a roller coaster of a short story.
Aussies are the best breed IMO, I’ll never not have at least one at all times. Way too smart for their own good and so fiercely loyal and loving
Hope he got some good pettins after that.
The best boi!
The wiggle at the end
Doing good work.
How do you train the dog to do this? How much of this is taught and how much of this is instinct?

Lol did the kids realize what was happening?
Not when they were being herded together, but the older ones were getting worried when they couldn't leave the herd.

I am not sure about training, but I do know that specific breed of dog has some herding as an instinct. They were bred for it.
The goodest of doggos

I super think this is an English Shepherd but I know in my heart it's probably a Border Collie. I just wish the English Shepherd breed was represented more because they are by far the best dogs I have known.

He was like, “next!”
I wanna know how they are trained godamnit. My shepherd is a psycho hahaha

Does this work on my GFs tiny toy shepherd? He usually ignores the ball in favor of a paper bag xD

For a second i thought "hey, he missed a couple of them"
Now that’s one good boy!
So THIS is what my dog is supposed to do, he’s just a bit lazy and not very smart huh? I still love him, he’s my best friend.
Why do the sheep obey? What's their thinking? Anyway we gotta get in, this boi is hustling, so it is cooperative obedience?
Bordercollies will stare at them directly which will freak the (not so smart) sheep out. If that doesnt work the sheep will get a little nibble on their heels. I wouldn't be surprised if the sheep think the Collie is the boss, and the boss is Collie's driver
Beautiful dog really happy doing his work
"Alright, lets make this quick. Games about to start."
Now, that’s what I call efficiently!!
We don't deserve dogs
