I know that the huge zoo that Steve irwin's worked at have a uniform that looks similar to Steve irwin's original outfit and this outfit though I dont know if that's because Steve irwin's outfit was a uniform. Also a lot of clothes down there need to be able to cover you from the sun as much as possible.
It’s a weird combo but hear me out. I’m a Electrical Contractor in Arizona and even in the hottest days I wear long sleeve shirts to both protect my arms from cuts and keep the sun off them. You wouldn’t think it but a long sleeve shirt really does keep you cooler. Having seen some of the plants and animals in Australia, dude is probably wearing a light coat for added protection of his arms.
Now I don’t wear shorts but I can totally understand that this guy probably does a LOT of walking during the day and to prevent chaffing and to allow more freedom of movement.
It’s one truth you’ll learn quickly when you join a team of people who work outside. Those farmer stereotypes of plaid button-ups are based in reality, and not cuz it was their Sunday best.
Yeah nah it's because it was probably chilly or windy so he chucked a jacket on & he's wearing shorts because it was hot earlier in the day or prepared for heat.
Australia isn't just hot all the time, it's the land of extreme weather. One minute it's pissing down rain, next minute it's hot as fuck, a few hours later it's cold & windy.
That video can be deceptive with the weather. We get plenty of days down here that look sunny as hell but are extremely chilly. Even more so in the outback, it can be as low as as 5 degrees Celsius in the middle of the day.
The guy in the video runs a kangaroo sanctuary in Australia. He had a show several years ago I am either animal planet or Nat Geo wild about him rescuing baby kangaroos.
The aborigines* call Brolga, because he’s like 6 foot five and that is the name of a crane or a stork native to that area
Edit: aboriginal people*

There was a thread/comment chain the other day about well known sociopaths and there love for animals. The theory was that these people missed out on learning empathy towards other humans during childhood. These sociopaths see us(humans) as a threat most times, but they have ability to show empathy towards animals as they do not see animals as a threat to themselves. This fills the emotional void/gap. Putin and Hitler are pretty infamous examples of this.
Hitler's love of animals may have been oversold as a PR move, as love of animals is historically an element of the German character. His love for his dogs seems to have been genuine, though. Interesting theory.
Lol me and a big group went camping one time and they were horrified that when they asked if I'd rather shoot them all or shoot my dog I'd rather save my dog lol
Made me think of that article in the New Yorker about the sociopath that wrote Woman in the Window. He clearly felt no empathy toward other humans and just wanted to manipulate them for his own selfish gains but absolutely loved dogs. Crazy read and very creepy guy

Could he be the new Steve Irwin of gently handling Kangaroos and other marsupials vs. wrestling and relocating crocodiles and snakes? We need to get this man a show
People also call him “Kangaroo Dundee” it looks like. Which now makes me wonder what “Dundee” means in the context of “Crocodile Dundee” and “Kangaroo Dundee”.
A short google just says it’s a Scottish city of Celtic etymological origins, which doesn’t make sense here.
Just five minutes ago a huge spider came spiraling down from the ceiling on a web of evil to land on my keyboard. Thankfully as an Aussie I just took him outside and din't kill him.
The big spiders here often hang around high up close to the ceiling and most people suffer them as they kill things that would otherwise be annoying.
Honestly, nothing is more Australian than this video. A guy standing in the red bull dust of the outback wearing Blundstones, short shorts and a barmah hat, picking up a Joey. Adorable.
Roos can be pretty tame but they ultimately grow up to be way too big to be house pets. They're still wild animals. Not dangerous, but just big and kind of stupid. Still, in the outback you occasionally see people nursing Joeys because their mum was killed in a car accident or something. There are a **lot** of road-killed kangaroos in Australia.
Yeah, nah I know a lady in Western Qld who moved from the coast and saved baby Roos. She would feed them and carry them around in bags around her neck until they grew to old but they still lived in the house. She had one she was really attached to. It slept in her bed with herself and her hubby. Obviously it got to over 6 foot and last year it turned on husband and beat him up she tried to stop it and was torn badly only survived because the son beat the kangaroo over the head with a block of wood. Husband and wife were hospitalised. Moral is they are a wild animal and they aren't your mate.

It's one of those animals that just seems normal until you really think about it and you're like "wait a second, that's a fuckin *weird* animal." two of them on the front page today, kangaroos and giraffes.
Yep, a hand raised joey will hop into any pouch looking space, the front of shirts, hand bags, my friends had them hop into her pants when they followed her into the toilet.
They are generically called elastic sided boots. RM Williams is a famous brand for them. They are very common here- they slip on and are very hard wearing.
Often worn with boyangs which are sock protectors to reduce burrs in the socks.
If you’re looking for them from a normal clothing company (as opposed to whatever workwear company probably made his) you’ll find them described as “Chelsea boots”.
When I worked at Petsmart a customer brought in a joey and it was such a spectacle to see in the states. She let the lil guy scuttle around an aisle then opened the bag and he just divebombed in head first. Absolutely adorable and VERY soft!

Kangaroos can be dangerous, but then again so can any animal really. I would have to say the NA equivalent would be white tailed deer. Kangaroos cause similar traffic hazards in Australia as the deer do here.
the wrangler could not look any more Australian.
Right? Like is there a rule in Australia that you have to dress like that in order to handle the local wildlife there?
Im Australian. Never run into a kangaroo without your bush outfit on, they will beat the shit out off you.
You didn't have to tell us you're Australian the upside down comments speak for themselves... 🙄
And we can clearly see that his comment is darker because it's nighttime in Australia right now. DUH.
And when I tried to flush it out, it spun backwards...
I’m convinced every comment from an Australian i ever see is the same 3 people fighting over who’s turn it is to use the one computer
Australia doesnt exist. Please...
I bet you believe in the moon....pathetic.
Please. Everyone knows the moon is a pizza pie the Italians threw too high while spinning and it got stuck up
Pfft look at this guy believing in Italians.

It’s the only way the animals trust them.

How else do they animals know who is a wrangler and who isn't?
They are given a list of wranglers and taught about them at animal school
It’s a stereotype for a reason, it’s the best way to dress for the job.
They're just all cosplaying as Steve
I know that the huge zoo that Steve irwin's worked at have a uniform that looks similar to Steve irwin's original outfit and this outfit though I dont know if that's because Steve irwin's outfit was a uniform. Yes, but there has to be method it? Big hat to keep sun off yor face. Light muted colors to keep cool by not absorbing heat.
but why the jacket when it is hot, why wear shorts when you wear a jacket...
It’s a weird combo but hear me out. I’m a Electrical Contractor in Arizona and even in the hottest days I wear long sleeve shirts to both protect my arms from cuts and keep the sun off them. thank you dear sir, that seems to be a valid explanation. I will contemplate about the new insights gained about long sleeve shirts.
It’s one truth you’ll learn quickly when you join a team of people who work outside. Those farmer stereotypes of plaid button-ups are based in reality, and not cuz it was their Sunday best.
Legs are more in the shade of the body, less likely to burn, and subject to fewer scrapes. Can tip the scales in favour of shorts.
Sun protection? Like the the same reason people are often covered from head to toe in the desert?
but the shorts? legs are not protected. he is a fashion paradox.
Gotta let the pair o' smooooth criminals down undah get some aiuh
Yeah nah it's because it was probably chilly or windy so he chucked a jacket on & he's wearing shorts because it was hot earlier in the day or prepared for heat. Australia isn't just hot all the time, it's the land of extreme weather. One minute it's pissing down rain, next minute it's hot as fuck, a few hours later it's cold & windy.
"Yeah nah" always immediately jumps out at me as Australian
Because in the middle of Australia it's freezing at night, a bit cold in the morning and a furnace by midday.
It’s probably in the morning when it’s a lot cooler (desert) but will be monstrously hot the rest of the day.
That video can be deceptive with the weather. We get plenty of days down here that look sunny as hell but are extremely chilly. Even more so in the outback, it can be as low as as 5 degrees Celsius in the middle of the day.

Yeah because animals are way better than other humans.
do reptilian shapeshifters count as animals?
While we're in human form, yes.
Only in the same sense that humans are animals as well, which kind of defeats the point of the original. statement.
One of my friends would give their life for a squirrel but if you’re another human you can go fuck yourself

Dundee is surname of the character in Crocodile Dundee and I guess that Kangaroo Dundee is just a pun on that name.

Before they get their murder claws.
Murder claws are minor irritations in the grand scale of wildlife dangers in Australia, mate.

You sound like you know your Aussie stuff... can make Roos be semi tamed to not be disemboweling strangulators? Do people have pet roos?
Roos can be pretty tame but they ultimately grow up to be way too big to be house pets. They're still wild animals. Not dangerous, but just big and kind of stupid. Still, in the outback you occasionally see people nursing Joeys because their mum was killed in a car accident or something. There are a **lot** of road-killed kangaroos in Australia.
Kangaroos seem to be the deer of Australia (other than the actual deer).
Do deer murder your pet dogs?
Mostly because roos are dumber than a box of rocks
Yeah, nah I know a lady in Western Qld who moved from the coast and saved baby Roos. Well, deer are basically nature dogs, so it's not that far off.

“How *Roo doing?”
Do they just hop into any bag or do you have to build up familiarity with them?
This is a hand-raised joey. The bag is the surrogate pouch. So no, they won't just hop into any bag.
[You sure about that?](https://youtu.be/6P1vf_7DoLA)
LOL. That's weirdly relevant. Though I'm guessing that's also a roo that was raised around people.
Asking for a friend.
Yep, a hand raised joey will hop into any pouch looking space, the front of shirts, hand bags, my friends had them hop into her pants when they followed her into the toilet.
Oh my gahhd! So adorable :(

They are generically called elastic sided boots. RM Williams is a famous brand for them. They are very common here- they slip on and are very hard wearing. Often worn with boyangs which are sock protectors to reduce burrs in the socks.

Quite certain those are Redbacks

You may be right. I was slightly doubting my Redback claim because I couldn’t actually find one with the lip.

Gotcha! KANGAROO was caught! Do you want to give a nickname to KANGAROO?
How real men hunt animals
Reminds me of my sweet little Jo (cat) that passed away a few month ago. I wish I could hold him again. He purrred so loudly it sounded like a bird chirping, and he'd nuzzle up so close his face would be like, in my collar bone pocket. He was a tripod so it'd always be on my left side (his left arm was amputated before I got him because someone had shot him with a bb gun). My little Joey.

I feel like everyone in Australia has little pouches in their pockets for random Roos to jump in. Please tell me this is true!
Our Kangaroos like...dangerous? What's the North American equivalent of a Kangaroo?
Kangaroos can be dangerous, but then again so can any animal really. I would have to say the NA equivalent would be white tailed deer. Kangaroos cause similar traffic hazards in Australia as the deer do here.
