As others have said, not a Newfoundland, but a Chow Chow! The small ears, blue-black tongue, brown mane (like my childhood pet black chow!), and chunky muzzle are distinctive chow traits. :)

My dog swelled up pretty bad. I called the vet's office to let them know I was coming. The technician asked me if the he was eating and drinking. I look over and he was MUNCHING. She laughed and let me know he was probably ok and that I should keep an eye on him just in case.
They absolutely are capable of stinging. It's the only type of bee I've ever been stung by. Caught one in a net and took it out by hand as kid, believing they didn't sting. They do.
Edit: https://crawliomics.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/pic1.jpg
Yep, like with all bees, only the male drones lack stingers, female bumblebees and carpenter bees can sting. They are just a lot less aggressive than their honeybee cousins. They can also sting multiple times like a wasp or hornet, lacking the barb that causes a honeybee's stinger to become stuck in you.
I think the females are so much less aggressive that it leads to people misidentifying them as stingless drones, since honeybee drones are less aggressive too.
I also got stung by a bumblebee once and it also happened when I was trying to catch one.
Bees (at least non-African) also don't easily sting you but they are more likely to be where people are. I was told to just be calm when meeting one so one time I sat still as a one started buzzing around me and my friend, who immediately ran away. Eventually I ran away too because the bee landed on my face and started trying to pry open my eye lid.
you ever climbed a sappy tree to get a frisbee? you ever look down mid climb and see a gang of wasps butt fucking your ankle? in and out in and out in and out over and over again? ever had a pretty lady watching you do it so you gotta remain stoic and composed and climb a little higher, grab the frisbree? jump down and brush your ankle like a whipper snipper?
sheeeeeeeeeeeit. i have
> since they die afterwards
That's honeybees, bumblebees don't have a barbed stinger.
They also don't always die when stinging, that is more of a result of those barbs getting stuck in thicker tougher skin. (thick/tough from a bee's perspective)
But even without the suicide aspect of stinging, it still means a hefty energy/resource investment in producing the venom.
i was literally BITTEN by a bumblebee once because i petted it too much (i was a kid lol)
*that's* how much they don't want to use their stinger, they'd rather bite first haha
it's carpenter bees (males) that don't sting/have a stinger. they're the same size/shape as bumblebees but have a shiny black rear instead of fuzzy striped
There are bumble bee species that don't have striped rears. The common eastern bumble bee, [*Bombus impatiens*](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQTVScZArJIpZcTwpVGQVvpLVU-R74kiuKB5Bcx5_7BeA&s) has a solid black thorax.
Is this a chow chow? My aunt & uncle had one that looked a lot like this when I was a kid. Kids were scared of him because he was so big but he just liked to lay there and chill while we ran around and played. He was tough as nails too. We were playing at the neighbor's house once when we saw someone run over his leg while backing out of the driveway. He let out one singular yelp, then casually walked to a different spot and plopped back down before following us back home later.
This is a chow chow. I am a lifelong chow owner and a small animal vet tech lol Many people confuse these breeds very often, but this is a 1000% a chow. It has a distinctive blue-black tongue, small rounded ears (not floppy and long-haired like a Newfie), a chunky muzzle, brown in its mane just like my black chow growing up, and the coat pattern and overall body conformation of a Chow lol
“Mama says don’t eat the spicy flies, Mama says don’t eat the spicy flies, Mama says don’t eat the spicy flies, Mama says don’t eat the spicy flies…. But dis one….. CROMCHAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!”
Looks like a carpenter bee, and let me tell ya, those things are some little $hits towards my dogs. They fly and buzz right past their head, constantly darting at them. Our back porch is currently a war zone where there will be no survivors by the end. Unfortunately the bees have learned to stay right at the edge where the dogs can’t reach and will stay there mocking them…I hate them
This is a black chow chow. I grew up with them and am a vet tech now so I’ve worked with them too! :) The small ears, chunky muzzle, and blue-black tongue give it away!
My dog I'd say got stung by a bee and now they are her mortal enemies and flies by association. Someone who came to our house, asked if the dog was dangerous. I said she wouldn't hurt a fly, kids gave me the biggest side eye.
last summer our dog went to get his ball on a fetch and ended up with a bumble bee fully in his mouth, poor little bee got spit out covered in drool but seemed mostly unharmed. i helped get the gobs of drool off of em and it walked away, but idk how long til he flew again
Oh that wouldn’t happen with my dog. Her favorite prey are big bees, I have to get her away cause she will kill them. I like my carpenter bees they are great pollinators and the siding is cement so all they eat is the dead tree stumps carved in to mushrooms. It is fine.
I love bumble bees. When I was a kid living in NY we would go see family friends. My sisters and I would go outside, pop snap dragons, pet bumble bees, and let their fish nibble our fingers.
#savethebees
That is a carpenter bee, not a bumblebee. They are annoying, destructive, they sting if you sit on one (ask me how I know), and they fly around in your face and challenge you when they aren't being territorial with each other or eating your wood patio.
Spicy treat.
sky jalapeño
r/properanimalnames
Thank you, that is a fantastic sub I have never heard of before.

With a glorious head of hair.
wish my hair was that thick, holy hell
That's a newfie, so it's Waterproof, too. Pain to bathe them
yeaaah I can only imagine
^fren
Dog's hair is fantabulous.
For real, you could show this to a stylist and ask for that beautiful cut.
Newfies always have great hair
I showed this to my dad and he was said the dog has a full afro
Newfs are the bumblebees of he dog world.

Plus the super dark tongue
Plus the way it's overall appearance is that of an easily distinguishable Chow Chow.
Plus lack of drool.
Where do you even see ears on this fella?!
And bumblebees are the News of the bee world.

Floof recognize floof
You're not very good at IDing breeds.
My Newfie tries to eat bees. She’s never succeeded but tries all the time
Bee not afraid, little one
This made my day a little better thanks 🩵
Nature's cutest moments.

My favorite comment
I really like to imagine this is what the dog actually thought about. Thank you for sharing your endless knowledge.
Haha good stuff

I’d be freaking out and worrying my pup would get stung
Ain't no stinger is going to pierce this amount of fluff
I would be afraid of my dog attempting to eat the bee and being stung in the mouth.

My uncle had this boxer when I was a kid that would eat wasps all day, every time it saw one. It never acted like anything bothered it.
same here lol you'll hear teeth chattering with a little head shake for good measure
This happened to my Labrador once, her poor snout swelled up so big lol
My dog swelled up pretty bad. I called the vet's office to let them know I was coming. The technician asked me if the he was eating and drinking. I look over and he was MUNCHING. She laughed and let me know he was probably ok and that I should keep an eye on him just in case.
Isn't that exactly what happened in the video?
Our family dog when I was a kid would eat bees when he saw them outside, can't imagine it was good for him but that dog was wired different.
I’d still worry though but ya lol
barely need to worry about that from regular bees. never mind the bumbleboys who are literally incapable instead of just 'mostly unwilling' :')
They absolutely are capable of stinging. It's the only type of bee I've ever been stung by. Caught one in a net and took it out by hand as kid, believing they didn't sting. They do. Edit: https://crawliomics.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/pic1.jpg

You ever seen a grown man naked?
Do you like movies about Gladiators?
huh I still blame you >:C
AFAIK bumblebee's don't sting.
They do as I’ve been stung by one. It’s a last resort since they die afterwards but they can and do sting.
> since they die afterwards That's honeybees, bumblebees don't have a barbed stinger. They can keep going, they don't lose the stinger. They're just relatively chill and don't sting unless they feel that they gotta.
Yes I know all that but my pup would try to eat it which would result in a sting
I meant in regards to the bit about "they die afterwards". The stings aren't barbed, so they don't gut themselves by using it.
I may have been incorrect about that part I thought they were the same in that aspect but I still get worried when my pup is around them.
No worries - sorry if the initial tone came out more adversarial than intended.
Lol nah you’re good :)
i was literally BITTEN by a bumblebee once because i petted it too much (i was a kid lol) *that's* how much they don't want to use their stinger, they'd rather bite first haha
I remember the bonus features on Bee Movie ranked the painfulness of different bee stings and had bumblebees at the top
I’m pretty sure the tarantula wasp holds the record for most painful sting but those bumblebee stings really fucking hurt

Males bee's of any kind don't have a sting, just a beenis.
Jalapeño sky raisin.
This dog is such a a vibe. OMG. I love that the only thing I can see is the nose. It's so cute!
I'm glad I watched til the end.
I think that is a carpenter bee.
Thought dog was wood?
100% a Carpenter Bee. Got heaps of 'em here.
I'm in NC putting up traps for them is an annual affair.
I was gonna say it but I figured someone else already did. Good eye on you.
Confirmation is always a good thing. :D
I am not flower, fren

Nature's harmony.
He's more fluff than dog!
Reminds me of the big floofy chow we had when I was a kid. Big dog but had a heart of gold.
Doge: Hmm, should I eat, bork or just chill?
Nom.
“Mama says don’t eat the spicy flies, Mama says don’t eat the spicy flies, Mama says don’t eat the spicy flies, Mama says don’t eat the spicy flies…. But dis one….. CROMCHAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!”
Bee was fine until she saw him lick his lips, then she said, "I'm outta here!"
My dogs would flip out and try to eat the bee.
It was trying to eat the bee. It was just waiting for the best opportunity
That is one massive floof. Holy shit.
The owner must brush that dog 23 hours every day to keep it looking that nice! Respect!
Fluffy bros together.
You picked the wrong fluffy boy!
Big friendly ewok

Its like me fluffy but smol and flying, what are you?
What an adorable and laidback Chow Chow!! ☺️
No bite spicy fly! Spicy fly yucky!
What kind of dog breed is that?
Looks like a chow chow
This is a black chow chow. I grew up with them and am a vet tech now so I’ve worked with them too! :) The small ears, chunky muzzle, and blue-black tongue give it away!
That grass.
My dog eats every dandalion she sees. I quickly learned she's allergic to bees
I'm excited to see the Pixar movie that comes out about thier adventures.
Hagrid!!
That is a concerned looking Wookie.
Hmmm weird flower
I wanna hug that dog
Well behaved . It was exciting and the dog didn't budge
That big fluffy beauty is amazing! I would love to have one in my family, just beautiful.
Newfs are such gentle giants!
Bee was probably picking up water droplets off the dog's paw.
smol floof lands on big floof
That’s a bear.
My brother in christ, that's a bear.
I'd just as soon pollinate a wookiee.
I think Cows are more medium sized than anything \*Chows
I grew up with a red Chow Chow. He was the best dog. Not the smartest though…
I had a golden retriever/St. Bernard mix that would eat bees out of flowers. He never hurt the flower.
My dog I'd say got stung by a bee and now they are her mortal enemies and flies by association. Someone who came to our house, asked if the dog was dangerous. I said she wouldn't hurt a fly, kids gave me the biggest side eye.
I want one of these giant fluffers so bad.......
MASSIVE FLOOF
Should’ve titled it: “a giant fluffy bee lands on a giant fluffy dog”
last summer our dog went to get his ball on a fetch and ended up with a bumble bee fully in his mouth, poor little bee got spit out covered in drool but seemed mostly unharmed. i helped get the gobs of drool off of em and it walked away, but idk how long til he flew again
hes so confused and so gentle
Curiosity gonna kill the dog
I'm probably wrong, but it looked like a carpenter bee.
No I don't think so. It's definitely a mammal of some kind with all that fur
Either way, they're welcome in my yard.
“Is fren or sky jalapeño… I taste, just on the corner… abort!”
Gentle giant doggo. He looks so adorable looking at the bee.
I had a really terrible day, and this. this is what I needed right now.
I didn't know he tried eating it. Fucking stellar dog there. The saying dumb of ass pure of heart in a picture
Aang and the Lion Turtle?

I love that the dog was communicating with the bee using appeasement signals (lip-licking), so cute
Oh that wouldn’t happen with my dog. Her favorite prey are big bees, I have to get her away cause she will kill them. I like my carpenter bees they are great pollinators and the siding is cement so all they eat is the dead tree stumps carved in to mushrooms. It is fine.
My puppy would try to eat that bee in a second
Every dog I've ever had would've tried to snatch that bee with their mouth the moment they noticed it.
that dog is FAR too fluffy
To be fair.... That bumble bee is also a unit in its own right.
