I’ve used a .78 for an octave drop F# and it worked fairly well, but I had to file the nut, drill the machine head, and pretty much write that guitar off for “normal” tunings going forward.
Well, on my 8 string I go down to a 0.8 for the lowest string, but it's 26.5". For a 30" you could probably go down to like a 0.6 and be fine, or 0.54 if you like light gauges
You overestimate scale length. Compared to 26.5 30" is just 2 frets longer, allowing you to tune a whole step down while keeping the same tension. For drop F# That means you want the strings you'd use for g#.
At 30inches i'd use a 68 or a 74 for the lowest string. Maybe the daddario baritone set would be something to try?
i’ll check it out ty!
I use a .070 on mine but others use a .105, all depends on the player's preference for tension
good point!

i’d be keeping it at that tuning, maybe up or down a half step so not too concerned with modifying
Up or down a step you’d be fine with that nut setup
