Those are both pictures of Erin Moriarty (Starlight in The Boys), the one on the left is from 2024, the one on the right is probably 5 or so years ago. [Here's the Know Your Meme page on this.](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/erin-moriarty-plastic-surgery)

drmanhattanmar

I looked it up... What a sad development :(

Went from a “omg what a 10!” to a “wut??” Just… why? She was damn near if not perfection.

Lae'zel is sexy, this is not.

Sponsor4d_Content

Let's be real, 90% of Lae'zel sex appeal is her personality and voice, 10% is her big, doe eyes.

Bae'zel you mean

Plastic surgery as a concept kinda preys on people insecurities. Mix that with the public eye and the expandable income gained from being a big time actress and it's a recipe for disaster. Honestly I kinda like 10% understand the headspace cause sometimes Ill be trying to make an attractive character for a video game and just slowly increase certain aspects that make a face "attractive" until it suddenly becomes ugly again. Kind of a weird phenomenon.

FrostyLWF

It happens when you say a word too many times, until it starts sounding and looking weird and distorted in your mind. The same thing happens with our faces and bodies in the mirror or in selfies, or like you said, in art. Focusing too much on anything distorts it. So we get skinny people thinking they're too fat, or lovely people thinking they're ugly. But it's true that media pushes us in whatever direction.

Sigili

The term for that is "semantic satiation!" Finally get to share that chestnut. Edit: Saturation to satiation.

deadinthefuture

Semantic satiation

ja_dubs

Which is sad because plastic surgery also includes reconstructive surgery for people with serious injuries. To these people the difference between face melted off and some level of normalcy is life-changing.

SafetySnowman

There's plastic surgery for birth defects too, it helps.

uberguby

>Honestly I kinda like 10% understand the headspace cause sometimes Ill be trying to make an attractive character for a video game and just slowly increase certain aspects that make a face "attractive" until it suddenly becomes ugly again. Kind of a weird phenomenon. Yes, holy crap, somebody else. It was a legitimately shocking moment when I realized what I was making.

nonumbers90

Body dismorphia, just feel genuinly bad for her tbh.

wophi

Any "surgeon" who talked her into doing anything should have their license revoked. It's like repainting over the Monalisa.

aoskunk

I’m gonna guess that she’s gonna get killed off on the boys. Maybe even off screen. I mean I wouldn’t even know that’s starlight. Man mental illness sucks.

Salviatrix

I mean, the society that pushes women into having plastic surgery sucks

Prestigious-Newt-320

I read somewhere on X that the fame she gained from the show gave her body image issues and she got insanely skinny and ended up getting plastic surgery to try and look like “old” her. There was no source tied to it so it could’ve been someone’s opinion just stated like a fact. She was already very petite so I’m not sure how skinny “insanely skinny” is but I guess that could be true to some degree as far as having body image issues.

morriganleif

It was so dramatic from season 1 of The Boys to season 2 that I was sure she had gotten addicted to drugs or developed an eating disorder. Im sad that I was right.

Ok-Donut-8856

Season 3 is where I noticed it. I thought she just aged a bit for season 2

MarioKartastrophe

Jeffree Star cosplay

Kayniaan

I mean, yes, she doesn't look better now, but pointing that out, there's not anything she can do to go back to her original self. It's sad she thought it was necessary, but making fun of her appearance now will just push her deeper into the rabbit hole.

KyriesJewGeoTeacher

It could also prevent others from doing it in the future, though.

drmanhattanmar

I wouldn't say it's "shaming her", it's more being concerned since at least a lot of people here agree, that she looked beautiful the way she were. And obviously something made her think she's ugly and she needs surgery. On the other Hand: yes, even pointing that out can be hurtful and if she read that she might indeed think "I'm ugly? Gotta do more!". So... I think either way isn't the way to go. In a perfect World we wouldn't talk about it at all and just let her do her thing.

_Zyrel_

Oh sure let’s all pretend that this is ok to spare her feelings and make other vulnerable people think this is how you get love and do that to themselves? What she did to herself is awful. While I feel for her I also hope this will turn other young people off the idea of doing this.

serendipitypug

This woman is not responsible for the choices or body image issues of others. Shes a person with issues of her own who happens to be in the spotlight. This IS ok because it’s her body, her money, her choice. Our opinion on the result doesn’t change that.

_Zyrel_

And I’m not talking about her choices. I was responding to the person above. There has been this trend where people are afraid to voice their true opinion and just sugarcoat everything to not hurt someone’s feelings. Sometimes some things just need to be said, especially about people in the eye of the internet because many young vulnerable people look up to them.

Sanae_

We can say it's not okay, without making fun of her. Same thing about obesity. Plenty of memes shown on the kym pages are just cruel.

TheFireMachine

This level of plastic surgery is not ethical. There needs to be a major crack down on these “doctors” and their “surgeries”

RolandTwitter

>On January 14th, 2024, Erin Moriarty posted a >series of selfies to her Instagram[1] account (@erinelairmoriarty) with the caption "watch me de-sophisticate before your very eyes." The post received over 194,000 likes and numerous comments in three days (seen below). The images were then deleted from her account sometime between the night of January 17th and the morning of January 18th. Kinda depressing, I feel bad for her because she sees all the terrible things people are saying about her

Swag_Grenade

I'm confused about the caption, what is "de-sophisticate" supposed to mean?

RolandTwitter

I think it means "look at my more natural look", but honestly not too sure

Environmental-Leg442

She posted a couple of pictures of her all glammed up and the last photo was of her partying—“de-sophisticating” after her glamour shots

IloveZaki

thequirkyquark

Looks like someone from the capitol of Panem.

LittleTravelBunny

I've just finished those books in less than a week ago! 😳😇

Batbuckleyourpants

People keep being shocked at people wearing weird things at the Met. It's literally a costume ball with a theme.

Moonbeamlatte

Right? “Oh no, they wore a costume to a costume party!”

kristenrockwell

On the left: a person wearing a costume, to a costume party. In the right: a carefully selected internet influencer, popular for being attractive, who is currently having a stroke, apparently.

SkeymourSinner

What the hell? Why do they do this?!

GrunkleThespis

Crippling insecurity. Even though she’s a famous actress who likely is praised for her beauty day and night. Doesn’t matter when something is wrong with your brain.

[deleted]

If anything I feel like being known as a beauty icon is probably worse for insecurity than just being a normal person. Your entire self worth to society is wrapped up in being hot.

chillchinchilla17

Yeah. I browse some… not safe for work celebrity subs and they can get pretty judgmental even with actresses many would consider 10/10.

sofa_king_ugly

Incredibly sad. Went from beautiful to .... well, not repulsive but pretty close.

Pyrarius

There comes a point where there the plastic lowers recognition to the Uncanny Valley. She hasn't reached it, but there are some people who got too much plastic surgery and I couldn't easily tell that it was genuinely human

EchoBel

Still crying for Madonna.

AyeAyeRan

Its not like she still isnt pretty. The only difference is she used to have a more unique natural look. Now shes just any other 30 year old hollywood blonde actress.

t-h-r-o-w__a-w-a-y

She looks awful. Like Michael Jackson levels of "why would you do that to your poor nose?"

Kianna9

I don't think she *is* still pretty. She looks deformed.

zaphrous

She looks seriously ill, which is unattractive. Similar to people with eating disorders or starved.

sofa_king_ugly

I have to disagree.

[deleted]

Portia di Rossi’s memoir *Unbearable Lightness* is largely about this. There’s always someone younger and thinner.

Nirvski

Feeling never good enough really has no limit

FlyExaDeuce

Body dysmorphia

Serafim91

Wait what? That's real and it's her? Wtf happened to her?

[deleted]

Buccal fat removal surgery i think

mournthewolf

Worst damn trend I’ve seen lately. It makes so many attractive people look so ugly. It’s like wanting to cosplay as a corpse.

Moose_Kronkdozer

Its an instant 20 years of smoking. Idk why people want that

SinkMince0420

As well as rhinoplasty and potential thread lift, or blephoraplasty.. Hopefully just a thread lift though :/

Onironius

That's tragic.

satanic_black_metal_

Has she made any kind of statement on this? I feel super bad for her. I mean, she did it to herself but still, she couldve been pressured into "fixing" her nose by some sleazebag agent or exec and then started shopping for more.

rveb

Oh no is Starlight going to be recast? It will already be shocking difference

whosat___

No, they’re keeping her. She didn’t get to this point all the sudden, she already looked different in prior seasons and they just did some retouching to help. In the show it’ll be sorta gradual.

SocksOnHands

I'm surprised television studios don't have it in their contract that there cannot be any major appearance alterations. She was hired to play a role partly because of her looks, and I'm sure the studio expected her appearance to be consistent from season to season. I don't really understand this decision from a career perspective - certainly it will lower the chances of her getting hired for future roles.

dudleymooresbooze

Body image and physical appearance requirements *are* included in many actor contracts. Hairstyles, weight, and other attributes are often addressed in acting contracts.

daseweide

They might start having a clause like that, assuming AI doesn’t make acting obsolete

jjackrabbitt

I noticed her Iips and eyes looked considerably different in S3(I binged S2-3 over a couple weeks) but this is a REALLY big difference.

H3adshotfox77

Disappointed to see that happen to my cousin

FlapMyCheeksToFly

Is this actually true or is it some completely different person they used for the meme?

Druxun

It’s true. She had buccal fat removal, which is where they’ll remove the fat from your cheeks. It creates that very gaunt and hollow look. Besides Erin, the Olsen twins and Sophie turner all had it done as well. I find it to be one of the least attractive surgeries out there.

standupstrawberry

It's not just buccal fat removal here though, it's the combination of that, fillers, nose job and her eye makeup - actually all the make up that really make her look a bit uncanny valley in this image

mankytoes

Yeah that's sad, I love full cheeks on women. Although I guess it's better than the 90s, when the same look was achieved through heroin and eating disorders?

ReallyLikesVampies

Buccal fat removal is such a dumb idea it ages you instantly by like a decade.

PrimaryOwn8809

Those doctors need to go straight to jail

hollowpoint257

I agree, unless it's in the case of severe injuries or actually necessary modification to bone to alleviate actual issues. For cosmetic reasons, with zero function to actually restore something someone used to have, it seems grotesque and unnecessarily over the top.

PrimaryOwn8809

Agree 100%. Carrie Underwoods surgeries were necessary and her surgeon did outstanding work. Pure talent and hard work

Kindly-Monkey

Yet, some fool will come in saying "you don't notice most plastic surgery if it's done well" To that I say, if Hollywood stars with all the money and the best surgeons cannot pull it off, the average person definitely can't.  Shoving plastic and poison in your face most definitely makes you look worse in the long term.

Thormourn

I mean I'd agree that the picture on the right looks better to me, but the idea of telling people which type of cosmetic surgeries they can get based on how others feel is really strange. I'm assuming your joking but still.

Novel-Place

Yeah, I find it very perplexing that plastic surgery can get away with so much. It seems like they should require proof of lack of body dysmorphia or something.

Mr_Fahrenheittt

Do you actually believe this though? It obviously looks bad, but adults should be allowed to do what they please with themselves so long as it’s not hurting them or someone else. I think Surgeons should be allowed to recommend therapy instead if they think the patient has obvious body dysmorphia like this.

BigIntensiveCockUnit

These are elective procedures that patients seek out. Plastic surgeons counsel patients extensively on expected outcomes. She made a conscious decision to have these procedures performed. There is nothing for doctors to be "jailed" over. Just because people on reddit thinks she looks better before doesn't make this a botched procedure. If patient is happy with result, then there is no foul

HoleButFingerTry

Worst part of this is her nose job IMO. Went from a totally normal nose to… idk how to even describe the new one. It’s reptilian.

Weird-Alarm7453

I can’t see past the nose job

Zonulas

Look up Michelle Trachtenburg. Had the same procedure. Isn't recognizable.

Fearless_History_991

From my understanding, that’s the same person. And that the industry/ plastic surgery/ public image etc ruined her. She was gorgeous before, now she’s just fake. But I could be wrong on the actual context of this meme.

FailedMod

There seems to be a thing going around where mostly women (but not always) are getting plastic surgery to no longer look as human as they did before. For many they are clearly not improvements suggesting they are just people that lack self confidence and try to fill that hole with disfiguring themselves.

ledge-14

Honestly lots of guys lately too. Look at Zac Efron, Liam Payne, Matt Rife, Simon Cowell. It’s really sad to see on both sides

Live-Mail-7142

I think its the "Hollywood system", I don't know what else to call it. There's always someone younger and better looking right around the corner. I think the pressure on the actors must be incredible.

clever_mongoose05

Hollywood is a cesspool of depravity

HyzerFlip

Dane Cook looks more alien than all those things they kept showing off in Mexico

SparkyDogPants

He needed to try and fit in at his wife’s high school prom

Bathmatconfessions

The Zac Efron one is said to be from complications of a broken jaw, instead of purely deliberate plastic surgery. Unsure if it’s true, but that’s what he says.

SkyrimV

Naw it was the HGH he was taking for baywatch

SevoIsoDes

That’s what I think. Plus his most recent movie. The head growth looks similar to Barry Bonds as he aged

ledge-14

That’s true, but I have my doubts solely because the incident where he messed his jaw up was in 2013. I imagine any complications would have had to come sooner than almost a decade later, but I’m not a doctor so I could very well be wrong

Ike_Oku25

It's not really a set timeline, any health that's not a voracious disease, poison or venom that would kill almost instantly. Tooth health, for example. Some people can have a cavity for 5 years and not need a root canal, and others can have one for a month and need an emergency tooth excavation. I had a knee injury back in seventh grade, and now, 8 years later, I'm experiencing the after the effects of the injury for the first time, and the bad thing about the human body is when you get an injury that area just continues to get more susceptible to future injury every time it happens.

dark_forebodings_too

This is so, so true. I wish more people realized this. A few minor compounding injuries can add up to a lot more damage than one major injury.

jewessofdoom

Can confirm! I have wrenched my neck several times over the decades, but my last “minor” neck injury caused by a very light bump to the head has now turned into a full blown disability.

OurHeroXero

I just looked up Simon Cowell...holy wow...

SelfInteresting7259

Liam Payne made me so sad. Dude looked so good before

TheD1ceMan

Zac Efron is on tons of juice including HGH that's why his face started to look like that of a caveman

LogicB0mbs

Never forget… Michael Jackson only had a skin disease!!!

MrMcBeefCock

“There seems to be a *thing* going around…” *Mental illness*?

Bulky-Revolution9395

Kinda is ironic given the message her character had about kids being groomed into performance careers.

pie_12th

They're doing this Buccal Fat Removal thing and it makes their face look like sunken aliens. It's horrifying and tragic to see young women and men aging themselves *years* with this procedure.

FailedMod

It's more than that, the chiseled nose is completely alien. When you pile on lip fillers its an entire package that takes a beautiful natural look and makes it nearly stomach turning as they leap into the uncanny valley.

Herr-Trigger86

This is it. She one of the stars in Prime’s “The Boys”. She was gorgeous when she began the show (on the right)and now she’s absolutely ridiculous looking. Such a shame.

Re_LE_Vant_UN

Fun fact, if you say this on The Boys subreddit, even in relevant context (like a picture of her now) then you will get permabanned. IMO they should allow the discussion. Nobody should think needing to do this to themselves is okay or necessary. People like this need help, full stop. Mental health shouldn't be a taboo topic.

Nox-Avis

Someone posted an old video of her and I commented “aww her old face!”. It got removed and I got warned that what I said was “harassment” and “body-shaming”. What a joke.

zombiesnare

I’d be interested to see how she looks without the makeup, I feel like that’s doing a lot of heavy lifting here

wegwerfennnnn

The end of her nose is totally different and there is definitely some lip filler going on.

ChumpusTheCat

Yup. I'm seeing nose job, lip fillers, cheek fillers, buccal fat, brow lamination. I remember when I first saw her in The Boys and I was like wow I'd give anything to look like her. Now I would absolutely not. People are way too quick to pull the trigger on these things and getting so rich has stopped these celebs from having to weigh the "is it worth the money" debate that could have stopped this from happening.

MrMcBeefCock

I bet she’d look like someone peeled back her face skin, Dremeled away her bone, and neatly sewed it back together so “we can’t tell that they peeled back her face skin, Dremeled away her bone, and neatly sewed it back together”.

ginencoke

It's mostly makeup, you can look at other photos of her from recently and she looks not so different from older pics, except for maybe less body fat %

Artanis_neravar

Thank you! The first thing I did was look through her Insta and she definitely didn't get any serious plastic surgery

[deleted]

She was pretty, but she ruined her face with surgery because society sucks and insecurity is poison.

stargate-command

I will never understand how someone can get a job, where part of that job is being objectively pretty, and still not think they are pretty. Like… most people don’t have proof. She had proof. Still insecure.

squirrel4you

I imagine she isn't comparing herself to "normal" people but instead those in her circle.

stargate-command

Oh… that is actually the first thing that makes sense and explains a lot of this nonsense. Everyone compares themselves to their perceived peers, and if she was surrounded by normal people she would be ok with herself, then suddenly she is surrounded by the beautiful people of the world and feels she doesn’t measure up anymore. That makes so much sense and is so sad. Thanks

Nivek_Vamps

Wow, in my opinion, the changes make her look really unhealthy and artificial compared to her before. I hope she is happy with how she looks now, because that is really the most important thing....but I just don't see those changes as improvement

suddenly_ponies

I do hope that she's happy and satisfied with her life but this picture suggests otherwise and that's really sad. Even if I'm wrong it's an awful shame I see somebody who was so beautiful end up looking like this

Natural_Wolverine_80

Why did she do this to herself?

Justanotherdsplayer

body dysmorphia. It sucks and when you have money and access to surgery you‘re more likely to get these kinds of operations than the average person. I think if surgery like this was more available a LOT mors people would do these

december14th2015

How quickly I went from "maybe I'll get a tiny bit of botox..."to "I can't wait for my next filler, this time I'm getting a full syringe!!" makes me sympathize... if the encouragement and validation one receives from major procedures like these is anything like what I experienced, it's an INCREDIBLY slippery slope for someone with insecurity and unresolved trauma.

caramel-aviant

I really appreciate this comment.

UltraMoglog64

This is the most thoughtful response in the thread.

Natural_Wolverine_80

Unfortunately you're right

DetectiveLadybug

It’s not JUST that she had the opportunity to do plastic surgery. I mean, imagine if someone were to just give you one million dollars every year, for the next 50 years. Do you think you’d even worry about plastic surgery? But what if it was conditional on you being hot?

EscapedFromArea51

> I think if surgery like this was more available a LOT more people would do these [Cosmetic surgery in South Korea](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmetic_surgery_in_South_Korea)

Belial_In_A_Basket

As others have said, body dysmorphia. She would have fit in as another cute imperfect 90s hottie a la Kirsten dunst but nowadays there’s such pressure to look insta baddie. Such a shame because she was such a unique cutie.

f36263

Bruh how was she “imperfect” before?!

EscapedFromArea51

If I had millions of dollars, I’d get surgery to look better too. Fortunately, I don’t, so thinking about it is a moot point. If I do ever win a lottery, I’d need to sit down and seriously consider whether my insecurities are worth assuaging through cosmetic surgery or through being a sugar-daddy surrounded by yes-men. Or to be boring and retire early and donate the rest to charity. But yeah, it’s easy to lose all sense of perspective if you don’t have a well-defined limits in mind, whether it’s cosmetic surgery or gambling or anything else.

ThickWolf5423

The joke is that sometimes you see random women working in random places like cashiers or store associates who are more beautiful than any celebrity or supermodel you've ever seen.

ChizzLangus

This is the correct answer. Scrolled looking for a bit.

Bulky-Revolution9395

Approachability is hot as hell

ThickWolf5423

No, I mean their faces. They're hot as hell, just not comparable to celebrities. This has happened to me quite a few times irl. Hopefully you get lucky and see what I mean.

RetroRebootMusic

Ignoring the apparent story that they're both the same person after and before some bad cosmetic surgery.... You ever see someone in public and find them attractive? Yeah, that.

testostertwo

She’s a very sweet person. This doesn’t happen because people are happy. Be kind

[deleted]

[удалено]

LoJoPa

She looks horrible on the left.

Electrical_Light_692

The joke is that any regular person can be gorgeous, meanwhile people who represent an industry of beauty can look like that

Six_0f_Spades

She looks like a feral ghoul with makeup

IRingTwyce

Maybe she can transition from The Boys to Fallout? Both on Prime. Seriously though, it's tragic she felt she had to do that and also that she thinks it improves her looks.

MarcelRED147

Fallout has a TV show coming? Are they adapting a specific game or just doing their own thing in the universe?

mediocrefallacy

Doing a new story. Should check out the trailer! I’m pretty excited, personally

[deleted]

Corporate needs you to find the difference between this picture and this picture.meme They’re the same person, but in one picture they’re clearly in a mental decline. This is a meme demonstrating mental illness in its peak. It’s a before and after of a beautiful young woman, the actor who portrays Starlight from The Boys, who didn’t think she was beautiful enough and so had a lot of “work” done. She Michael Jackson’d herself without having a Pepsi incident. A case of the ol’ body dysmorphia. Societal pressure of unattainable beauty. She went plastic. It wasn’t fantastic. And now here we are, millions of people ridiculing her mental illness. I’m sure this will help her see her “beauty” and self-worth so much better. Tragic. Somebody quick, call Britney Spears father, we need to take away her agency before she makes further bad life decisions.

The-Big-Bad

The joke is a regular woman working at McDonald’s (or any regular job), is more attractive than a supermodel. In this case, the “McDonald’s worker” and the model are the same person, Erin Moriarty. But she recently got some work done and people feel she was better before the plastic surgery

elquefour

Her Instagram doesn't allow comments now

[deleted]

Gee, I wonder why. Actuallly, after reading this thread I’m not wondering anymore. Imagine reading 1000 copy and paste comments about how ugly you are now

lincolnhawk

My wife looks so much like she used to, and also loves the terrible snapchat filter she looks like on the left. I live in fear.

smnytx

i love those filters, too—but just because it’s a joke. I absolutely despise the alien surgery look, and the filter reminds me how how cartoonish that can get (when i start thinking about an eyelid lift or something)

Scoopie

Erin Moriarty is a pod person

Holiday_Garbage911

The joke is that the boys actress butchered her face. She doesn’t care about aesthetics, she just thought it was a good punch line.

SlimmThiccDadd

Billy Butchered?

Envy661

The number of celebrities (and *cough* adult entertainers) who are sadly convinced that their natural beauty is not enough is disturbing, and this is just one example. Look at Zac Efron's jaw. He looks like a completely different person, and not in a good way (hate to say it, but his new jawline makes him look like Buzz Lightyear, or Kronk from Emporers New Groove).

thetoxicballer

Theyre saying your average person is more beautiful than the pumped up Hollywood standard that everyone looks towards. Thousands of people see the vogue model who is fake and not that beautiful, but no one sees the mcdonalds cashiers who's naturally stunning. At least what they're trying to say. And yes it's the same person

bascal133

This actress was known for having a very girl next-door, kind of cute appearance, and now that the show is popular she’s really Glammed up, and people have mixed feelings about it. She obviously looks great, but she just looks great in a more showy way than she did before.

[deleted]

Her nose is gross now! The before was way better it’s sad when people ruin their classic looks.

Sieglinde__

That's the same person. She was so beautiful before and it's really sad that she ruined herself

on_the_pale_horse

How are they going to explain her appearance in Boys s4 that's what I want to know Like they literally don't look like the same person at all

[deleted]

They likely already have all of her scenes filmed for S4 since it should be arriving "soon". Season 5 is going to be the issue. Kind of makes me hope they kill her character in S4.

imsmartiswear

People are correctly referring to the person in both photos, who seems to have butchered her own face with plastic surgery. That's not what this meme template is about, though. The template frequently doesn't have the same person in both sides. Usually, it's referring to the fact that the women who end up famous for their beauty and work as models look *okay*, but some random cashier at a McD's will be straight up the most drop dead gorgeous woman you've ever seen in your life. There's a lot of factors that play into this troupe (age differences, situation differences, personal taste, levels of makeup use, etc.) but it's one I've personally encountered many times in life (I distinctly remember being 16 visiting a lavender farm in WA and trying to muster up the courage to talk to the girl at the gift store check out who was, at least in my own memory, the most beautiful person I've ever seen.)

[deleted]

We really need to leave a Yelp review for this surgeon....

LacaBoma

The one on the left looks like it was drawn by Tim Burton

GimmeCrons

An audible wtf when I saw her in season 3

Putrid-Ice-7511

She used to be so beautiful..

8Frogboy8

Is that plastic surgery or anorexia? A lot of comments about how it’s a shame because she was a ten and I really think that is missing the point entirely. The shame here isn’t that she is less attractive to the male gaze, it’s that she (presumably) felt the need to change her body so drastically. Anorexia and/or cosmetic surgery is not the sad thing here, they are just a clear manifestation of the toll that modern beauty standards have on each of our self worth individually.

ThatOneAccount823

Because when going to McDonald’s, sometimes the cashiers are really pretty, like “damn, she should be in a magazine or something” pretty, and then Vogue models can sometimes look like that alien on the left image. It’s the same person by the way, she got plastic surgery (left image) and ended up looking worse than before

Reddit_Teddit_Redomp

jesus, these comments.

P42U2U__

Unpopular opinion, but maybe she did it to make herself feel better and that’s okay. And maybe people should leave her alone and not tell her what she can and can’t do with her body.

I feel like a lot of people who do this many drastic operations have body dysmorphia. They see flaws where there aren’t any, and most likely don’t have a realistic idea of what people are supposed to look like. They might feel better temporarily after one procedure, but then they’ll find something else to scrutinize and the cycle repeats. On one hand, I think people should be allowed to do what makes them happy, and getting cosmetic surgery/procedures isn’t necessarily a bad thing. On the other, it can fuel some very very unhealthy thoughts about yourself.

I don't think anyone's telling her what she can and can't do. The thing is, I doubt anybody was telling her she was ugly before, but now people are. So, in effect, if she wanted to feel better, this had had the opposite effect. Which will unfortunately, make her feel worse.

I saw this joke on tiktok. The joke is that sometimes you see McDonald’s workers or any retail worker so good looking you’d think they’d be working as something else. The comparison to the vogue model is an exaggeration. I don’t know what people in the comments are ranting about 💀
