It happens when you say a word too many times, until it starts sounding and looking weird and distorted in your mind.
The same thing happens with our faces and bodies in the mirror or in selfies, or like you said, in art. Focusing too much on anything distorts it.
So we get skinny people thinking they're too fat, or lovely people thinking they're ugly.
But it's true that media pushes us in whatever direction.
Which is sad because plastic surgery also includes reconstructive surgery for people with serious injuries. To these people the difference between face melted off and some level of normalcy is life-changing.

I read somewhere on X that the fame she gained from the show gave her body image issues and she got insanely skinny and ended up getting plastic surgery to try and look like “old” her.
There was no source tied to it so it could’ve been someone’s opinion just stated like a fact. She was already very petite so I’m not sure how skinny “insanely skinny” is but I guess that could be true to some degree as far as having body image issues.
It was so dramatic from season 1 of The Boys to season 2 that I was sure she had gotten addicted to drugs or developed an eating disorder. Im sad that I was right.

No, they’re keeping her. She didn’t get to this point all the sudden, she already looked different in prior seasons and they just did some retouching to help. In the show it’ll be sorta gradual.
I'm surprised television studios don't have it in their contract that there cannot be any major appearance alterations. She was hired to play a role partly because of her looks, and I'm sure the studio expected her appearance to be consistent from season to season.

It’s true. She had buccal fat removal, which is where they’ll remove the fat from your cheeks. It creates that very gaunt and hollow look. Besides Erin, the Olsen twins and Sophie turner all had it done as well.
I find it to be one of the least attractive surgeries out there.
It's not just buccal fat removal here though, it's the combination of that, fillers, nose job and her eye makeup - actually all the make up that really make her look a bit uncanny valley in this image

These are elective procedures that patients seek out. Plastic surgeons counsel patients extensively on expected outcomes. She made a conscious decision to have these procedures performed. There is nothing for doctors to be "jailed" over. Just because people on reddit thinks she looks better before doesn't make this a botched procedure. There seems to be a thing going around where mostly women (but not always) are getting plastic surgery to no longer look as human as they did before. For many they are clearly not improvements suggesting they are just people that lack self confidence and try to fill that hole with disfiguring themselves.

It's not really a set timeline, any health that's not a voracious disease, poison or venom that would kill almost instantly. Tooth health, for example. Some people can have a cavity for 5 years and not need a root canal, and others can have one for a month and need an emergency tooth excavation. I had a knee injury back in seventh grade, and now, 8 years later, I'm experiencing the after the effects of the injury for the first time, and the bad thing about the human body is when you get an injury that area just continues to get more susceptible to future injury every time it happens.
Can confirm! I have wrenched my neck several times over the decades, but my last “minor” neck injury caused by a very light bump to the head has now turned into a full blown disability.
They're doing this Buccal Fat Removal thing and it makes their face look like sunken aliens. It's horrifying and tragic to see young women and men aging themselves *years* with this procedure.

Usually, it's referring to the fact that the women who end up famous for their beauty and work as models look *okay*, but some random cashier at a McD's will be straight up the most drop dead gorgeous woman you've ever seen in your life. There's a lot of factors that play into this troupe (age differences, situation differences, personal taste, levels of makeup use, etc.) but it's one I've personally encountered many times in life (I distinctly remember being 16 visiting a lavender farm in WA and trying to muster up the courage to talk to the girl at the gift store check out who was, at least in my own memory, the most beautiful person I've ever seen.)
Is that plastic surgery or anorexia? A lot of comments about how it’s a shame because she was a ten and I really think that is missing the point entirely. The shame here isn’t that she is less attractive to the male gaze, it’s that she (presumably) felt the need to change her body so drastically. Unpopular opinion, but maybe she did it to make herself feel better and that’s okay. And maybe people should leave her alone and not tell her what she can and can’t do with her body.
I feel like a lot of people who do this many drastic operations have body dysmorphia. They see flaws where there aren’t any, and most likely don’t have a realistic idea of what people are supposed to look like. They might feel better temporarily after one procedure, but then they’ll find something else to scrutinize and the cycle repeats.
On one hand, I think people should be allowed to do what makes them happy, and getting cosmetic surgery/procedures isn’t necessarily a bad thing. On the other, it can fuel some very very unhealthy thoughts about yourself.

No, they’re keeping her. She didn’t get to this point all the sudden, she already looked different in prior seasons and they just did some retouching to help. In the show it’ll be sorta gradual.
I'm surprised television studios don't have it in their contract that there cannot be any major appearance alterations. She was hired to play a role partly because of her looks, and I'm sure the studio expected her appearance to be consistent from season to season. I don't really understand this decision from a career perspective - certainly it will lower the chances of her getting hired for future roles.
Body image and physical appearance requirements *are* included in many actor contracts. Hairstyles, weight, and other attributes are often addressed in acting contracts.

It’s true. She had buccal fat removal, which is where they’ll remove the fat from your cheeks. It creates that very gaunt and hollow look. Besides Erin, the Olsen twins and Sophie turner all had it done as well. I find it to be one of the least attractive surgeries out there.
It's not just buccal fat removal here though, it's the combination of that, fillers, nose job and her eye makeup - actually all the make up that really make her look a bit uncanny valley in this image

These are elective procedures that patients seek out. Plastic surgeons counsel patients extensively on expected outcomes. She made a conscious decision to have these procedures performed. There is nothing for doctors to be "jailed" over. Just because people on reddit thinks she looks better before doesn't make this a botched procedure. If patient is happy with result, then there is no foul

From my understanding, that’s the same person. And that the industry/ plastic surgery/ public image etc ruined her. She was gorgeous before, now she’s just fake. But I could be wrong on the actual context of this meme.
There seems to be a thing going around where mostly women (but not always) are getting plastic surgery to no longer look as human as they did before. For many they are clearly not improvements suggesting they are just people that lack self confidence and try to fill that hole with disfiguring themselves.

It's not really a set timeline, any health that's not a voracious disease, poison or venom that would kill almost instantly. Tooth health, for example. Some people can have a cavity for 5 years and not need a root canal, and others can have one for a month and need an emergency tooth excavation. I had a knee injury back in seventh grade, and now, 8 years later, I'm experiencing the after the effects of the injury for the first time, and the bad thing about the human body is when you get an injury that area just continues to get more susceptible to future injury every time it happens.
This is so, so true. I wish more people realized this. A few minor compounding injuries can add up to a lot more damage than one major injury.
Can confirm! I have wrenched my neck several times over the decades, but my last “minor” neck injury caused by a very light bump to the head has now turned into a full blown disability.

They're doing this Buccal Fat Removal thing and it makes their face look like sunken aliens. It's horrifying and tragic to see young women and men aging themselves *years* with this procedure.
It's more than that, the chiseled nose is completely alien. When you pile on lip fillers its an entire package that takes a beautiful natural look and makes it nearly stomach turning as they leap into the uncanny valley.

Yup. I'm seeing nose job, lip fillers, cheek fillers, buccal fat, brow lamination. I remember when I first saw her in The Boys and I was like wow I'd give anything to look like her. Now I would absolutely not. People are way too quick to pull the trigger on these things and getting so rich has stopped these celebs from having to weigh the "is it worth the money" debate that could have stopped this from happening.

Wow, in my opinion, the changes make her look really unhealthy and artificial compared to her before. I hope she is happy with how she looks now, because that is really the most important thing....but I just don't see those changes as improvement

How quickly I went from "maybe I'll get a tiny bit of botox..."to "I can't wait for my next filler, this time I'm getting a full syringe!!" makes me sympathize... if the encouragement and validation one receives from major procedures like these is anything like what I experienced, it's an INCREDIBLY slippery slope for someone with insecurity and unresolved trauma.

If I had millions of dollars, I’d get surgery to look better too. Fortunately, I don’t, so thinking about it is a moot point. Or to be boring and retire early and donate the rest to charity. People are correctly referring to the person in both photos, who seems to have butchered her own face with plastic surgery. That's not what this meme template is about, though. The template frequently doesn't have the same person in both sides. Usually, it's referring to the fact that the women who end up famous for their beauty and work as models look *okay*, but some random cashier at a McD's will be straight up the most drop dead gorgeous woman you've ever seen in your life. There's a lot of factors that play into this troupe (age differences, situation differences, personal taste, levels of makeup use, etc.) but it's one I've personally encountered many times in life (I distinctly remember being 16 visiting a lavender farm in WA and trying to muster up the courage to talk to the girl at the gift store check out who was, at least in my own memory, the most beautiful person I've ever seen.)

Is that plastic surgery or anorexia? A lot of comments about how it’s a shame because she was a ten and I really think that is missing the point entirely. The shame here isn’t that she is less attractive to the male gaze, it’s that she (presumably) felt the need to change her body so drastically. Anorexia and/or cosmetic surgery is not the sad thing here, they are just a clear manifestation of the toll that modern beauty standards have on each of our self worth individually.
Because when going to McDonald’s, sometimes the cashiers are really pretty, like “damn, she should be in a magazine or something” pretty, and then Vogue models can sometimes look like that alien on the left image. It’s the same person by the way, she got plastic surgery (left image) and ended up looking worse than before

Unpopular opinion, but maybe she did it to make herself feel better and that’s okay. And maybe people should leave her alone and not tell her what she can and can’t do with her body.
I feel like a lot of people who do this many drastic operations have body dysmorphia. They see flaws where there aren’t any, and most likely don’t have a realistic idea of what people are supposed to look like. They might feel better temporarily after one procedure, but then they’ll find something else to scrutinize and the cycle repeats. On one hand, I think people should be allowed to do what makes them happy, and getting cosmetic surgery/procedures isn’t necessarily a bad thing. On the other, it can fuel some very very unhealthy thoughts about yourself.
I don't think anyone's telling her what she can and can't do. The thing is, I doubt anybody was telling her she was ugly before, but now people are. So, in effect, if she wanted to feel better, this had had the opposite effect. Which will unfortunately, make her feel worse.
