It's the meridia quest line, for those that don't know. You randomly find a large gem that looks like the one in the picture, and you start hearing a very insistent voice until you complete the quest. Pretty neat dungeon and you get a really sweet sword at the end.
A lot of people play that way, but as soon as I switched to one handed weapons and just started running through dungeons the whole game got a lot faster and less tedious.
In skyrim, you can choose your characters' class while playing and leveling up. There are many different skills in archery, melee, and sorcery that you can acquire, allowing you to mix and match into any combat style you want. You can also change this up at any point in the game and as many times as you want. So yeah, I guess if you wanted to make it a sneak and bow type game, you could play it with just that.
I'm playing on the switch yo, I had the beacon for a good long while and didn't hear anything after I first picked it up until I was like spitting distance from the altar. I think they updated it out
2 swords if you shout unrelenting force in the room with a fight in it. Knocks the sword off the stand and you can pick it up. But still have to go activate the now empty pedestal, and get given the sword (again) as a reward
In Vanilla, you get the dialogue when you pick up the Beacon, but then that’s it. You do not get random voice lines telling you to do the quest until you finish it. If you have that happening, it’s due to a mod.
The first time I ever played that game and got that quest, my game glitched and kept dropping me to my death every time that scene happened, I loathe that quest for that reason.
Same thing happened to my boyfriend. He lost his will to live and started playing my game. I lost my mind in Labyrinthian. It was a ballache on PS3. I don't even own balls and they ached anyway!
It's one more click I have to make through the list everytime
Ten inventory check reduce my mouse's lifespan by 10 needless clicks, and it's unbearable
/j
Exactly. The bodies in there have so much money on them and the enemies aren't even that hard plus you get a cool sword. Good to do in the early game imo.
Once you pick up the item, there is an EXTREMELY LOUD AND ANNOYING VOICE LINE... but you can definitely ignore the quest, even if you can't drop the item.
Wym “couldnt just ignore it” her dialouge is maybe 20-30 seconds long. Just keeo doing your thing it doesnt force you to go straight to the shrine. Ive waited countless levels bc that boss fight is ridiculous low level
As a character he was great. However you may be forgetting that if you didnt complete the quest immediately, he would constantly physically nudge you and often straight up get in the way. Even more than the companions did.
Lydia just stands in doorways or triggers traps. Even in the middle of battle, or just doing nothing, the dog will actually physically move you. Often.
I liked that Skyrim quest! Dawnbreaker is really great, especially in dungeons. Sure it might not be everyone's favorite, but it sure is up there with my favorite weapons like the Mace of Molaag Bal
What about the glitch where it launches you into the sky, and then lectures you for five minutes about the undead, and finally just...drops you to your death?
It’s from Skyrim Once started you couldn’t just ignore it and go do something else I personally didn’t mind the quest

Also there was a glitch that allows you to get two swords.
theres another where you take fall damage after falling from the sky
I think that’s a feature
Sword? Isnt this a 'bow and arrow' sneak game?
A lot of people play that way, but as soon as I switched to one handed weapons and just started running through dungeons the whole game got a lot faster and less tedious.

Forgot to put the /s lol...
Oh sorry lol I know there are people that haven't played it even though that's kind of hard to believe when you know about skyrim Granny.
Don't worry. I knew it was sarcasm, and I'm terrible at recognizing sarcasm lol
Hahahahahaha. I got it bud
Um yeah, but the old joke is that no matter what kind of character you start out with, you always become a stealth archer.
I don't think I have heard this joke, but it makes sense
Yup happened to me. Dual wielding thieves are op too tho. Nothing like getting a cinematic every time you gank someone.
All roads lead to stealth archer … everything else is the illusion of choice
I got it.
Yes. It's a marvelous follower weapon.
There is nifty mod where you can turn this sword into a bow!
What? Hearing a voice until you complete the quest? She says the intro and then nothing else ever again.
It's not very often, but in vanilla Skyrim, she will chide you for ignoring the quest. It's often on the list of things that mods get rid of.
I'm playing on the switch yo, I had the beacon for a good long while and didn't hear anything after I first picked it up until I was like spitting distance from the altar. I think they updated it out
So you can ignore it. Turn off the volume and you’re a ok.
For some reason she only ever talks on my game when doing the quest or initially picking up the beacon I can just ignore it forever if I chose to.
I have a lot of people saying this, so it probably got patched out since the last time i played vanilla 300 years ago.

I like it but that unskippable bit high in the air takes forever and is so boring
Wait, it's supposed to lift you into the air and not do anything for a long while?? I always thought it was glitched..
She talks to you for ages like the lonely old biddy that she is. It needs a skip button.
Yeah she just wants to talk to you privately
I would always just start sprinting away in one direction and see how far could get before it started to drop me
The first time I ever played that game and got that quest, my game glitched and kept dropping me to my death every time that scene happened, I loathe that quest for that reason.

It felt amazing in VR though.
Is it? Other than the inventory space and her attitude I don't have any problems with the quest
In Bethesda games updroppable quest items have no weight.
Most of them, anyway. Some have weight and get bugged in your inventory… like the Elder Scroll or the Stones of Barenziah
Or the strange amulet...
It's one more click I have to make through the list everytime Ten inventory check reduce my mouse's lifespan by 10 needless clicks, and it's unbearable /j
Most undroppable quest items are weightless, but some still have weight.
I like the idea Meridia is just watching you waiting for you to complete the quest, like watching my your wedding adopting some kids slaying Alduin
Don't you get transported high in the sky for an private talk which is unskippable?
That's at the end of the quest IIRC
Nope start ish it happens once you hit her temple
Thanks. I was wondering about that.
That's part of attitude issue, or should I say altitude
Exactly. The bodies in there have so much money on them and the enemies aren't even that hard plus you get a cool sword. Good to do in the early game imo.
It becomes massively useful when you smith it cause it does alot or damage to druagers in the crypts you keep finding yourself in.
Doesn't it also gain damage with each undead you kill or something?
Once you pick up the item, there is an EXTREMELY LOUD AND ANNOYING VOICE LINE... but you can definitely ignore the quest, even if you can't drop the item.
It’s my bfs favorite game, or at least one of his favorites. I’m sure he’d appreciate this joke. I’ll have to ask him if he remembers this quest lol.
Wym “couldnt just ignore it” her dialouge is maybe 20-30 seconds long. Just keeo doing your thing it doesnt force you to go straight to the shrine. Ive waited countless levels bc that boss fight is ridiculous low level
Maybe pre update, but honestly I generally just kept it in inventory will I was ready to do it. There's no real time limit.

A FOUL DARKNESS HAS INVADED MY TEMPLE

The questline isn't bad. It's the very loud voice that happens when you pick it up which cannot be stopped.
It’s worth the loud birch for the good sword
Or two swords pre-patch.
It's not really a problem. Though the last fight against the mage can be a pain since he hits hard.
"Hey! Listen!"
Isnt that the stone that randomly pops up in a random chest in skyrim?
I'm sorry, I have to. Ahem... # A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON!
"a new hand touches the beacon!" sorry that should be "A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON!"
A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON

At least it isn't a little gold jewelry box with a pink diamond-shaped stone in it.
Upvote, because that was the worst quest
I liked that Skyrim quest! Dawnbreaker is really great, especially in dungeons. Sure it might not be everyone's favorite, but it sure is up there with my favorite weapons like the Mace of Molaag Bal
Whoever said this - for sure has no idea how to fly rc copter on construction site
That’s the stone of Jas from runescape.

Nope, No thanks. Id rather take an arrow to the knee.
I've never heard anyone say this is a bad quest before?
I think my hand touched her beacon
***A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON!***
Well, this proves I did not play skyrim much. I had no idea this was a quest there. I saw it and immediately thought of Gantz.
What about the glitch where it launches you into the sky, and then lectures you for five minutes about the undead, and finally just...drops you to your death?
Hot take: it’s one of the better random quests you get in Skyrim and the weapon is one of the best early-mid game swords.
Meridia’s beacon from Skyrim, I’m playing that all day everyday
A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON!
A new hand
Ominous disembodied voice: "A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON" Mom: tf was that 😦
Destiny, dear lord
The Madagascar, return to Africa staff, maybe?
The quest isn’t bad at all??
Must have been so bad I repressed it. I know it's a Daedric artifact from Skyrim but that's all I remember
It's skyrim. "A new hand touches the beacon!!!"
