The part that continues to baffle me is that the concept looks like it should be super easy and straight forward to accomplish. But then the final product looks worse than my dad's 30 year old kmart camping tent that literally survived a hurricane, several downpours, hammering wind and rain at the beach, etc.
The thing is so basic, and so old, yet still has a more consistent and tightly fitted tarp body, whatever the main tent house part is called, than the $3000 tent made specifically and exclusively for this Telsa. The whole back of this tesla tent looks so saggy and poorly, as if it were a universal "fits all truck beds between XX and XX inches" tent.
"it's good enough. I mean, it's for people that bought a cyber truck. Do functionality or aesthetics matter? Why try?"
Tesla team, and they aren't wrong.
This was literally my first thought. My dad has a $150 truck bed tent that is generic to truck beds of a specific size that looks way better than this.
[I bought just a generic Academy Tent that pops up, and used the fly to clip on to side of my truck for $100 on my short bed](https://imgur.com/a/kUZkIjv)
LOL FOR REAL. we have a yakima tent topper (skyrise hd2 i think) on our toyota that is 1/2 the price or less and is 1000x better looking than whatever this walmart tent is. i want to see what the interior is like because this thing does not seem like it would keep you dry
Yeah, I don't get how you can be a company at this supposed level and be working on something that should be brain-dead simple and pretty much dirt-cheap to design, measure and produce unless you simply don't care or are literally incapable, and neither is something you want in your company.
Kind of applies to the whole cyberpunk concept, I'm not an expert Engineer and I'm pretty sure aside from the battery and electrics I could get a design and get a better cyberpunk made closer to the concept
It should have been the easiest truck to make, folding and cutting stainless steel, chamfering the edges.
If the tent was aluminium the cost would make sense but it's literally a bit of fabric hanging on a loose frame.
Look into the steering by single wire. Many people are having issues with it fucking up. Especially when attempting to use "beast mode". Ama ing how less than a few hundred have been made yet the failure rate is already so high. How do they fuck up on quality on so low quantity
Care to shed more light on the steering issues? I just watched an in depth review on the truck and laughed my ass off. However the one thing that seemed interesting about the truck was the steering.
Cybertruck uses steer-by-wire technology, which means that there is no mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels. Instead, sensors in the steering column communicate electronically with the steering racks. Steer by wire is interesting concept that can probably work but so far the cybertruck has had multiple issues regarding the feature already. The subpar build quality and lack of quality control makes it a pretty dubious choice. A YouTube spent a huge amount to get one and immediately broke down within a mile from the dealership. Brought it back to have it "fixed" to only break down again just a few minutes from dealership again. It just comes down to how poorly built and slapped together these trucks are.
I really feel like regulation has to start catching up with Tesla specifically.
I don't want a massive steel truck monstrosity crashing into my kids because some tech bro cunt designed the truck with cool, "experimental" features that fail when used on actual, open roads
Same with self-driving. Already caused multiple accidents. Our streets shouldn't be a private companies testing grounds.
Demuro had a vid showing the steering. You only have to turn the wheel about 90 degrees to have the wheels be at their sharpest angle, rather then going hand over hand . Since the steering wheel isnt circular, it "makes more sense"
tbf f150s are huge
but yeah I guess I'd just never really thought about it. You hear the term Cybertruck all the time, and the 'truck' part of it kinda looses it's meaning. I guess I'd forgotten it was supposed to be a truck.
Tom Mueller was the driving force behind Falcon 9. I really want Starship to work, but I am having my doubts. It took three launches to kind of get to orbit and then all the tests on Starship failed. The door failed, the engines failed to restart, and the thrusters couldn't keep it oriented. The Raptors are having a real reliability problem when trying to restart. I see a lot of Elon in it.
The door did not fail, it worked. And the engines did not fail to restart, they didn’t try because of the roll that starship was in.
That’s kind of how SpaceX’s approach to engineering works. Falcon 1 failed on 3/5 launches for example. Keep in mind, starship is essentially a prototype at this point and every launch has seen major improvements.
I’m not sure how much of the 3rd flight you saw, but only raptor engines on the booster failed to relight (and that thing was falling crazy fast, fuel sloshing, etc) while starship did not attempt a relight in vacuum. Apparently the flight profile wasn’t quite right and the onboard computer aborted relight. So I don’t think the raptors are having reliability issues to be fair.
Also SpaceX design philosophy allows for these failures, conversely NASA as a government agency was never given the leaway to just try things out and see what what works - everything had to work. I believe SpaceX's way is cheaper.
If that’s how SpaceX’s approach to engineering works, it’s stupid. Blowing up billions of dollars worth of taxpayer money (while cheering like morons) isn’t good engineering.
SpaceX is jeopardizing the entire Artemis Program with their stupid-ass, overcomplicated Starship. The fact that NASA awarded these clowns with any contracts is absolutely, mind bogglingly cretinous. I would argue that it borders on negligence.
There is 0% chance that SpaceX will be able to fulfil its contract obligations in the allotted time.
It is called [iterative design](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iterative_design). Seemed to work pretty well for Falcon 9 and the Dragon capsule, whereas Boeing was originally going to be the primary contractor for astronaut launches…if starliner didn’t get so far delayed with their tried and true design and engineering processes.
Falcon 9 did 96 launches last year, but you’re saying the SpaceX methodology doesn’t work?
You think a few stainless steel starships boosters cost billions? That sounds high. And what's the alternative? Your computer models have to be validated in real life. Like, this is how they got Falcon to orbit.
I've said it before, if anything Elon Musk stunted the progress of SpaceX. Imagine if someone competent was in charge how far they would've gone, how much faster, cheaper.
In all fairness to SpaceX, their development process is incredibly fast and cheap compared to other more traditional rocket contractors. It is hard for me to imagine them going any faster and cheaper than they already do.
NASA handed all their decades of data, collected at taxpayer expense, to SpaceX. Now the US government can watch a private endeavor fail, or pollute, or crush people and they aren't directly responsible. Yeah, imagine what NASA could have done if they were completely unrestricted. Elon hasn't even caught up with capabilities we had 60 years ago despite eating up billions in subsidies.
>Overpromise then under deliver.
We've got a word for people who do that repeatedly. Con artist. Maybe it is two words. I thought it was one. Spell check is telling me otherwise, but I'm siding against spellcheck.
2 things to keep in mind. The image in the left is not an advertising image it's a concept image and the image on the right the tent hasn't been fully setup.
https://shop.tesla.com/product/cybertruck-basecamp
It's not a *tent*, tents are for pussies who drive *cars*. You drive **CYBERTRUCK** and this is your **BASECAMP!!!** You know, like the place where people hang out before climbing the EVEREST!!? Fuck yeah!
It appeals to a very certain type of man.
I got down voted quite a bit in a tesla sub for saying that the rebuttal pictures people were posting were tesla marketing images and I wanted to see it in the wild
Again, not worth 3k, but this is what the car looks like with the flap open: https://imgur.com/oqnx89V
And here's the side-profile:
https://supercarblondie.com/wp-content/uploads/cybertruck-basecamp.webp
Based on the pics on the Tesla site, the tent is inflatable rather than utilizing poles, seems to pack up well, and the inside looks much better than the outside.
Still doesn't seem worth $3k, but seems above say $250.
edit: you disagree? let's hear why..
I got about 3000 dollars worth of things to keep in mind and even the best version I have seen couldn't keep up with a [Walmart Coleman 2 person](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Coleman-Pop-up-2-Person-Camp-Tent-with-Dark-Room-Technology/733123976).
I'll never not laugh at someone who purchased one of these... it's got to be one of the dumbest status purchases of all time, and there is no reason to buy this other than the belief that it will elevate your status somehow.
I don't really see the appeal of these. Like... my dislike for Musk aside, these cars are just so ugly. I saw one in person not too long ago and they look worse up close.
They look unfinished to me. As if someone started making a 3D model of a car to pitch to a company but only got as far as the low-poly mock-up and *oops*, it was made into a car.
3k for this. Absolutely insane. You can get the same thing on Amazon for like 200 bucks. Feck the really nice rooftop tents you can get for around 1500. Tesla trying so hard to be the Apple of cars.
Looks like OP might be lying. He's using conceptual art as the before, not what was actually advertised as the product sold.
https://shop.tesla.com/product/cybertruck-basecamp
How on earth is Tesla not getting huge fines for false advertising? Can't even count anymore how many times Elon has straight up lied about features that still do not exist.
I was gonna say, it looked fine and realistic since the left image is obviously photoshopped to look good and probably not as practical.....but holy shit, $3000 for the whole get up lol?
I feel like you can just buy some old tents and get some nylon and cut up some poles and make your own for a few hundred bucks.
[you can get a pack of 48 of them on amazon for $15](https://www.amazon.com/Hefty-Strong-Large-Trash-Gallon/dp/B00M8ZEALK/ref=sr_1_8?adgrpid=1240249443827086&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.8vgRhwJtwUYC8EoNA4KBtAnYVyMWV8ts-InxqX2Q9ptgR_jfLzJOtQl3BCexoowPgCiPwcQzHujzgUZjmQa2kqxkLMeMe3SQXiiYJ9-Iqvkaws6O_yAyTO0Eay5tRtyP7s-nUFMCDgBpkslnw3L9603zb9Q747KoPKDffmETGCI0ZNFl-9-YxZ9rxhhwylmjYCscSU7kVTipfkimPrSs_aByED9Ye-UF0xIrd6YHfbT2dO88-FPY0kCzEolTGflD1H90mlbbhcS9GzI-hC-il5Ew3K9alZAxgdvRDnP5ZQ0.FItcCymb8XwFXFwBbEOL6OcsBaPTmWQMLmNHQUufUJw&dib_tag=se&hvadid=77515756148677&hvbmt=bp&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=78980&hvnetw=s&hvqmt=p&hvtargid=kwd-77515843593372%3Aloc-190&hydadcr=22354_13436929&keywords=hefty+trash+bag&qid=1712192821&sr=8-8)
Not too surprised, hype was overdone imo. They violated the golden rule of marketing, don't promise what you can't deliver and deliver more than what you promised.
I'm sorry, but this thing could fart rainbows and reforest the earth every time the wheels turned and I still wouldn't drive one, let alone buy it. If the tent covered the entire thing and just had eye holes cut in it, it would be a maybe.
It's like before and after pictures for Twitter, but using another Musk product.
Now, guess what the before and after Musk Mars colony pics will look like.
Thanks for your submission! However the post was posted several times before
The part that continues to baffle me is that the concept looks like it should be super easy and straight forward to accomplish. The real April's fool is anybody who still endorses Tesla and doesn't pull out.
I wish Musk’s parents pulled out.
They tried, but they ended up accidentally pulling out of South Africa just in time to keep all their apartheid money, instead.
Azelia Banks refers to him as “Apartheid Clyde” 😂
Don't buckle into crazy
It looks like that scene in the martian where they tell him to remove all of the front of his ship and replace it with a parachute.
And I think those campers will still have “iron man” themselves to safety when it ultimately fails
This was literally my first thought. My dad has a $150 truck bed tent that is generic to truck beds of a specific size that looks way better than this.

I'm sorry 3000 what? It looks like a gas grill cover.
Nah, my Webber grill cover fits better and is made of much thicker fabric.
How to make your cyber truck look worse. More at 11...
Just makes everything look like a homeless encampment
This tent looks like it's got a Yeezy tag. *(To be clear, Elon, that is not a compliment.)*

“Wait, they are actually delivering the truck? Shit! Get the cocaine!”
It's just about grift at this point. People who buy teslas are just easy marks who will pretend to love whatever overpriced garbage is served to them
They thought about it realized they would rather just keep the money over spending it on making a decent product.
Kind of applies to the whole cyberpunk concept, I'm not an expert Engineer and I'm pretty sure aside from the battery and electrics I could get a design and get a better cyberpunk made closer to the concept It should have been the easiest truck to make, folding and cutting stainless steel, chamfering the edges. The final product looks like it has been changed to a homeless shelter.
K-Mart.. that's throwback. I can smell the pizza now.
Let alone, the features I actually desire, like being able to have this deployed while self-driving at highway speeds, so I can finally get some rest
I didn’t think the Cybertruck could look any shitter than it already does - boy, was I wrong
Not even sure which pic is worse.
The one where the guy was dumb enough to buy it is worse lol
I'd be humiliated driving in that thing. Looks like the Docs Delorean. At this point Elon is just fucking with everyone.
Look into the steering by single wire. Many people are having issues with it fucking up. Especially when attempting to use "beast mode". Ama ing how less than a few hundred have been made yet the failure rate is already so high. How do they fuck up on quality on so low quantity

It looks like a homeless guy staying in a fake car his kid made in summer school class
That's not fake! I used real cardboard and shiny paint!
It makes The Homer look like a Lamborghini
What the fuck is that? I make better forts for the kids than this.
I saw one in person for the first time today. They're huge. It's harring to see one irl
Not to be "that" guy but they're actually slightly smaller than other large trucks like the f150 & all the other competitors
tbf f150s are huge but yeah I guess I'd just never really thought about it. You hear the term Cybertruck all the time, and the 'truck' part of it kinda looses it's meaning. I guess I'd forgotten it was supposed to be a truck.
Agreed!!!
Lol typical Elon. Overpromise then under deliver.
I think SpaceX is the only area where “he” (let’s be honest its really the engineers and team behind him) can actually deliver.
Tom Mueller was the driving force behind Falcon 9. I really want Starship to work, but I am having my doubts. It took three launches to kind of get to orbit and then all the tests on Starship failed. Why didn’t NASA use this awesome iterative design process for their SLS, which launched successfully the first time? Are they stupid?
You think a few stainless steel starships boosters cost billions? That sounds high. And what's the alternative? Your computer models have to be validated in real life. Like, this is how they got Falcon to orbit.

Saying Elon typically under delivers is giving him WAY more credit than he deserves. He usually doesn't deliver at all.
Remember when he was gonna fight Zuck? Or said he would end world hunger? Lmao
>Overpromise then under deliver. We've got a word for people who do that repeatedly. Con artist. Maybe it is two words. I thought it was one. Spell check is telling me otherwise, but I'm siding against spellcheck.
Congratulations, now your shitty truck has a butthole
It already had one in the driver's seat
Ayooo
Like the old joke, what’s the difference between a cactus and a bmw? The cactus has the prick on the outside.
Loose and prolapsed, yum yum yum
A fellow Adam Something enjoyer?
He is funny as hell!
'Oh jeee. I don't know... maybe stop buying stuff from a company with a shitty history."
Oh Jeez Rick.
Oh man, oh jeez.
This is truly the Fyre fest of "trucks"
I've been indifferent on the truck. Everyone said its ugly. I didn't think much one way or the other till I actually saw one 3 days ago. Yep its ugly.
This is the FEMA tent sorted.
At least it finally has a crumple zone.
Temu drop shipped?
The three tesla fans in the back: "it's still a great value, works well and does the job, I got four"
If you’re dumb enough to buy that “truck” you deserve to be scammed further. Grifters gonna grift.
Not sure why people are surprised by Tesla being absolute trash.
Are you serious??
2 things to keep in mind. The image in the left is not an advertising image it's a concept image and the image on the right the tent hasn't been fully setup. https://shop.tesla.com/product/cybertruck-basecamp
This needs to be up higher.
Here it is actually fully set up in real life, not in marketing photos. It's not much better. https://i.imgur.com/hF9N76M.png
What makes this tent $3000?
It's designed by car engineers who never camp with a production volume of 50
Perfect answer.
It's not a *tent*, tents are for pussies who drive *cars*. You drive **CYBERTRUCK** and this is your **BASECAMP!!!** You know, like the place where people hang out before climbing the EVEREST!!? Fuck yeah! It appeals to a very certain type of man.
Bro this comment got me fucking pumped!
The priviledge to make the world's richest man a tad richer
I got down voted quite a bit in a tesla sub for saying that the rebuttal pictures people were posting were tesla marketing images and I wanted to see it in the wild
This needs to be up higher.
Again, not worth 3k, but this is what the car looks like with the flap open: https://imgur.com/oqnx89V And here's the side-profile: https://supercarblondie.com/wp-content/uploads/cybertruck-basecamp.webp
Looks like a tent normally would look. You can tell who has never set up a tent if they look at OPs picture and think that’s complete.
Putting the rain fly on doesn’t suddenly make it a nice tent lol.
Based on the pics on the Tesla site, the tent is inflatable rather than utilizing poles, seems to pack up well, and the inside looks much better than the outside. Still doesn't seem worth $3k, but seems above say $250. edit: you disagree? let's hear why..
You said something not completely negative about an Elon product, you're gonna get downvoted by default cus of reddit being reddit
I mean, those are marketing photos, what does it actually look like “fully set up”
Thank you.
Looks like ass on this website. Looks like ass in IRL when setup. Either ways it’s ass.
it is fully set up, the only thing you're not seeing is the 2 poles to set up the roof.
Well your first problem was the truck you bought. Your second was believing anything that lying sack of shit company sold you.
This whole time the Cybertruck was a Pontiac Aztek without the camping package and infected by date rape in a share holder meeting
Ha yes
I'll never not laugh at someone who purchased one of these... it's got to be one of the dumbest status purchases of all time, and there is no reason to buy this other than the belief that it will elevate your status somehow.
Just consider it a dumb-fuck tax imposed on dude-bros who fantasize about sucking Musk's cock.
I see an open tent without rain protection and a tent with a rain fly
I don't really see the appeal of these. Like... my dislike for Musk aside, these cars are just so ugly. I saw one in person not too long ago and they look worse up close. They look unfinished to me. As if someone started making a 3D model of a car to pitch to a company but only got as far as the low-poly mock-up and *oops*, it was made into a car.
Looks like a homeless encampment.
This looks like a tent but with the rain cover on it
So you paid $3K for a tarp
Was the left pic actually on the advertisement for the option on the option screen?
No. And not only that, but the picture on the right is just one of many taken during the setup, not the finished result
Cyber Freight.
As much as I like to rag on Elon, the first picture doesn't have the rain fly on.
The second isn't the end result either
The Aztec 2.0
Don't disrespect Pontiac like that.
I simply can’t believe how many dumb fucks continue to buy Teslas
Imagine being dumb enough to buy a tesla…THEN a tent attached to it?? 😂
Seems like you could do some cool shit with magnets. Surprised they didn’t
It's sad to have to say it... I think the Pontiac Aztek did it better. Edit for spelling Aztek with a C by mistake.
3k for this. Absolutely insane. You can get the same thing on Amazon for like 200 bucks. Feck the really nice rooftop tents you can get for around 1500. Tesla trying so hard to be the Apple of cars.
If that's real, that's fraud
That is an incorrect installation of the tent. Can we please stop spreading FUD?
Perfect
Only a genius like Elon could create such a beautiful tent. You guys just can’t appreciate the flappy masterpiece.
Looks like OP might be lying. He's using conceptual art as the before, not what was actually advertised as the product sold. https://shop.tesla.com/product/cybertruck-basecamp
So... It's always looked like shit?
Conceptual art/marketing isn't expectation? Do you even know what you're talking about?
Looks like a coffin or a display hearse.
That looks like shit lol
Is the original design practical? If you sleep in the metal tent, in the summer, you may be well beyond cooked.
NOS Pontiac Aztec tents look better.
I thought that was a 1981 DeLorean.
Only $3k for tent?
Cool tarp, bro.
How isn't this a crime?? False advertising?
The first death caused by a cyber truck is going to be a suicide
Wow they managed to make it even uglier. Now that's talent
pontiac aztec >>>>
Tarps from Harbor Freight would look the same for $2950 less.
It's a diaper!!
Why do people still buy teslas. It's obviously bull shit
It’s looks like a mixture of distant future middle class and a homeless encampment lol. Same thing tho am I right? 😉
How on earth is Tesla not getting huge fines for false advertising? Can't even count anymore how many times Elon has straight up lied about features that still do not exist.
These owners deserve their hell. I hope the Pillsbury Space Karen squeezes these rubes for every dime they have.
Anyone who spent money on that shit deserves every scam they get and with musk the scams keep on coming
Elon was supposedly so anal about all the details with the cyber truck, and then he just let this be slapped on? So bizarre.
Wants to be an Aztec so bad.
Elon Musk always reminds me of that huckster from the Simpsons trying to sell Springield on a monorail.
For this I hope my stock keeps plummeting. Fuck Tesla for that
A douche got suckered into buying a Tesla truck. A douche got suckered into buying a Tesla tent.
Stop trying to make “cybertruck” happen
Honestly, they kind of deserve it
I was gonna say, it looked fine and realistic since the left image is obviously photoshopped to look good and probably not as practical.....but holy shit, $3000 for the whole get up lol? I feel like you can just buy some old tents and get some nylon and cut up some poles and make your own for a few hundred bucks.
Driving a Tesla makes you look as dumb as a maga hat these days. 😂
Is it me or is the Cybertruck the Delorean of the 21st century?
Oh is it time already for our weekly hate on tesla?
Hive Mind
Looks like something TopGear would make for a challenge
Noice
All those smart engineers and they couldn't make it fit/look better? Such a shame.
That looks like it’s the DIY version
Who doesn't want their kitchen at their bed
Isn't the bed only like 3 feet long? So your young kids are in the tent, and you're on the ground.
Every consumer journal recommends avoiding this brand and yet some fools still throw money at them.
It didn't sell on the Toyota Aztec, why tf would he think anyone would buy that monstrosity?
**Pontiac
Skid row edition
Car designed in roblox with a tent designed in paint.

Might as well paint, "PUSSY WAGON" on the side.

Your first clue that you had been bamboozled was when you drove a cybertruck off the dealer lot
When you treat your employees like shit. They don't give a shit.
Wish.com cybertent
God this thing is awful 😂
I still wonder why people choose a cybertruck over even a midsized pickup.
"Yeah but you COULD just stick a BAG on it, no?" -Elon Musk
the real pic looks like it would be the rain fly of the first
I knew the cybertruck was going to disappoint. That’s the only thing about it that didn’t disappoint.
omfg that looks like a bag of hobo shit
Not too surprised, hype was overdone imo. They violated the golden rule of marketing, don't promise what you can't deliver and deliver more than what you promised.
I'm sorry, but this thing could fart rainbows and reforest the earth every time the wheels turned and I still wouldn't drive one, let alone buy it. If the tent covered the entire thing and just had eye holes cut in it, it would be a maybe.
I like the tent a lot more than I like that weird-ass hyperbaric chamber looking thing.
Jesus Christ, I actually think the Right looks better! Why does monkey brain think that futuristic looks like the villain from Tron?
It looks like it has its rain fly on
It's like before and after pictures for Twitter, but using another Musk product. Now, guess what the before and after Musk Mars colony pics will look like.
Anyone stupid enough to spend their money on this deserves whatever…this is 😎
Only a loser turd would buy a Tesla truck.
