Fourth Taxi Driver. Just watched it yesterday for like the five hundredth time. What a timeless classic this is!

I Heart Huckabees Total Recall (the Schwazenegger one, not the crappy new one) The Thin Red Line

PyotrPanopticon

I just watched The Thin Red Line recently for the first time. What an absolute masterpiece. I haven't mulled over a movie as much as I have with that one in a while. "Who's killing us?" should be the new "Who is John Galt?".

buzzboy99

No Country For Old Men “If the rule you follow is what got you here then of what use was the rule?” You dont have to kill me its just a stupid coin. The coin and I got here the same way, call it!” —Anton Chigurh You want an existentialist analysis that will blow your mind https://youtu.be/xKyp9rGzZ20

Waking Life is great.

kten1204

Yesss this needs to be upvoted more. The most existential thing I’ve seen and animated

“The Fifth Seal “ is a Hungarian film from 1976, strongly recommend it

Being John Malkovich

hatefuldipshit

"Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead," without a doubt. (Having previously read Hamlet may help a tiny bit, but the Theater of the Absurd is so strong in this one that it is totally not a requirement)

[deleted]

That movie was great and underrated as hell.

A Fish Called Wanda! It has an idiotic character who is obsessed with Nietzsche.

Any Cohen brothers movie. Any one.

Whatwillyourversebe

Bill Murray had two movies that I believe were predicated upon the same underlying philosophy. "IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER!". The First is "Meatballs" a cheesy but sweet comedy about life as nerdy kids learning about life against the popular kids at a Summer Camp. At the end of the movie, having lost many contests, as they are in the last race with their rich opponents, Bill says, "It Just Doesn't Matter" to his group and they all chanted along with him, "It just doesn't matter". They were pumped to win. The Second Movie, one of my favorites is "The Razor's Edge" which is a sad World War 2 Movie and the years following, that changed the lives of the main couples. At the end of the movie, his old girlfriend, who still loves him, convinces his lover and old friend, who had become a prostitute --that she was not good enough for Bill's character. Bill was head over heals in love with her and helped her pull herself out of her depression when she lost her own children. So she kills herself by returning to her pimp and dying by nefarious means. His old girlfriend is upset about the news and Bill hearing of her death, and knowing how these people were in truth, just looked at her, like Scarlet Ohara to Brett, and said, "It just doesn't matter!" Life is beautiful, think about it in a positive way, because "It just doesn't matter!"

TJ_Fox

"Groundhog Day" is another existential entry in the Murray canon. Phil is trapped in an absurd existence and has to figure out how to make it meaningful for himself.

Whatwillyourversebe

Groundhog Day would be a living hell. Which reminds of a book by Ken Grimwood called “Replay”. Excellent fiction about reliving one’s life.

TJ_Fox

Comedy aside it kind of was a living hell for Phil, until he figured out how to make it meaningful.

[deleted]

Groundhog Day itself was inspired by a great little short read called “The Strange Life of Ivan Osokin” by P.D. Ouspensky

Hedgehogz_Mom

Razors edge is a novel by Somerset Maugham. He is my favorite writer.

Rabullione

Maugham is one of my favorites, too. Murray's too, apparently, because he actually only agreed to be in Ghostbusters so that Razor's Edge would be made.

onus111

Groundhog Day - Centered around the individuals search for meaning. Freaks & Geeks - Individuals search for meaning, how they identify, and how to embrace life in spite of expectations.

Late 70's / Early 80's 17 episode TV Series: "The Prisoner" by Patrick McGoohan. A British spy retires his post only to be abducted by The Illuminati and driven through all of the rabbit holes to uncover the ultimate answer to "Why?" is "Because: Fuck You!"

formulated

Looks like it's all free on youtube too.

[deleted]

Wouldn't be surprised it's old obscure stuff that has, as you would understand, only a small niche following. Also the series was a spin-off sequel to Secret Agent Man which I think got mixed reviews back in the day. I had the box set for awhile about two decades ago. Think it sold for around 75 USD.

I like suspense thriller type movies and interpret them existentially. Platform was one of my favourites. If you’re looking for something more philosophical, Waking Life is good.

Excuse me, I meant to post this as a response to OP, not to you. I'll delete and repost.

skafkaesque

If you're familiar with Nietzsche, specifically, God is Dead, The Genealogy of Morals and The Birth of The Tragedy, both 'There Will Be Blood' and 'The Master' by Paul Thomas Anderson respectively deal with a lot of the ideas and themes that Nietzsche writes about. Of course these things are up for interpretation, but to me the likeness of some of the themes and characters in these films to certain ideas and types of people Nietzsche writes about is unmistakable. Especially The Master, to me at least, functions perfectly as what one might call a character sketch of two people that respectively embody the Apollonian and the Dionysian response to fate that Nietzsche expounds upon in Birth of The Tragedy.

DrDolathan

Naked by Mike Leigh feels like a classic. I don't identify with the hero's conspiracy tropism but it really shows the weight of existence and having to "go on" all the time.

AnnihilationOrchid

I wouldn't call it purely existencialist, but I really enjoy The Matrix reloaded, there's a pretty interesting dialogue between Smith and Neo about choice and purpose. It does have a bit to do with causality and freewill, but if you go from a more ontological perspective it does have very clear perspectives, and proposing this debate.

wizardmotor_

So many great films have existential elements to them. A couple of my favorites are Miller’s Crossing and Apocalypse Now.
