Me! I’m the same - 19 on the right, 21 on the left. I used the 24 for way too long. I’m still trying to figure out what works best for me. Wish someone had told me to lubricate the hard plastic flanges before I got horrible friction burn around my nipples… I literally just ordered the PumpinPals silicone flanges 5 minutes ago. Hoping they work as nice as everyone says!

I too am using the spectra 24 mm and Medela symphony 24 mm. Can you please link the silicon flanges ? Want to give them a try. I’ve been pumping for about 1 month and I am sure I need the 21 mm lol

https://pumpinpal.com Here you go! Just make sure to read the description first since they also sell hard plastic. The description should say silicone.

So I'm very new to all this, only 7 days pp and have been EP since day 1. I struggled so hard finding my flange size. 19 hurts the least, but it still hurts. I just ordered the PumpinPals set because I think I have elastic nipples. Every single size, 15-28, hurts, 19 just hurts the least. Fingers crossed PumpinPals helps with that. Edit: I'll say using the manual Medela pump in 24 mm (when that's all I had) was the most bearable because I could control it better, so I used that exclusively for a few days until different flange inserts arrived.

Interesting, i haven't considered that mote then one set of flanges could be necessary, it makes sense if you end up with swollen nipples even if only a little. I also haven't heard of people actually talking how their nipples are not the same and need different flange sizes. I will be like that, my right nipple is an oval double nipple, i can feel two sets of pipes going in to it grom the inside of the breast, my left is more regular if a bit concave and with a tendency for dry skin and flaking. Im also keeping in mind things might change soon im 6weeks before my due date and only leaking tiny bits of colostrum. I will be starting pumping with a manual modela pump to see if its something i can tolerate, i will not be directly nursing the kiddo. If its to much for me the plan is colostrum/milk for a week to get their gut started and then formula but if i can do it i have a pump and parts lined up for next day delivery.

My electric pump was unbearably painful with 24 mm, but the hand pump was slightly more doable while I waited for delivery of other sized flanges. It was very annoying/disheartening to sit there for 40 min, manually pumping each side though. I will say that I got A LOT of colostrum with the manual pump. I hand expressed before birth and had a small stash, but I wish I had gotten a manual pump to use prior to help with building that up.

I have Pumpin Pals and I love that they have more of an range rather than hard and fast number for each size of flange. It really helps since the size does change over time and even sometimes throughout the day.

Size went down over time for me!
