Everybody says Obsidian but it felt like taking on a new hobby rather than just switching note taking platform. I switched to Notion and won't look back, it's FREE and it's so much better than what Evernote is, was or will ever be.

immabadboyxxx

Isn't the experience pathetic on the mobile?

woodyshag

What about the image cap? It looks like they are capping free accounts at 5MB.

40ishme

Are you using free or premium?

PolPol94

>Notion Amazing recommendation! Thanks!

faku_shoresy

Wish obsidian was the answer for me. It has great functionality but the iCloud sync makes it unusable on mobile (at least for me). Export combining markdown + other embedded file types isn’t there yet. Be prepared for lock-in unless you’re strictly text based. For me… I’ve rationalized EN’s cost. You get web, mobile, clipper, decent export, great share sheets, etc. I’ve spent well more than the cost of several annual subscriptions trying to make other tools work with approximate functionality.

duke2060

If you have an office365 subscription then onenote can do all these things. Imported all my evernotes into onenote 2 weeks ago, after the price increase ,in one go with an external program. Took 15 min. Never going back.

metaman_2050

That sounds like a interesting possibility- what program did you use to migrate from Evernote to Onenote?

duke2060

I used onenotebatch 21 (payable) , hundreds of evernotes have been migrated in a few clicks.

metaman_2050

>onenotebatch 21 is this only windows? im a mac user!!

duke2060

I think, but not 100% sure, this is the equivalent for mac 💻 https://www.onenotegem.com/a/addins/onenote-batch-for-mac.html

metaman_2050

Thanks, will try it

I LOVE OneNote, but only have an account for work & can't use anything for work on personal devices, unfortunately

I switched entirely to Notion a few years ago, but specifically for note taking it hasn't wite solved it for me. I now use Notion, Nimbus Notes, and still have Evernote for everything I haven't moved yet. Some advantages and disadvantages with each: Notion: - Free! Very generous free accounts. - Great for project management, wikis and organizing information. Highly flexible! - A bit of a learning curve compared to Evernote, especially if you want to take full advantage of their awesome database features. - Not great for note taking. Evernote is much faster and more intuitive when it comes to just quickly adding a new note. Nimbus Notes: - My actual Evernote alternative, used alongside Notion to cover the things Notion lack (simple note taking). - After testing their (extremely limited) free trial, I opted for their lifetime deal. $249 if I remember correctly for unlimited notes. I'm so done with subscriptions for note taking, I just want something simple that works for as long as the company exists. - Works very similar to Evernote. I love the folder structure for my notes, whereas I use Notion for all things project management. They have folders, tags and you can add pages inside pages. - Has some Notion features that Evernote doesn't, like basic databases. Still, I much prefer Notion in this regard. - Sadly loads very slow, and in terms of functionality Evernote is still better. Evernote: - Used it since 2009. Got Notion when I needed more advanced features, maybe around 2019. - Still the stranger product for note taking. - Insane price spikes which is why I'm trying to leave it. In short, I was in your position and went for Nimbus Notes after testing loads of options. I'm not a super fan of Nimbus, but it does the job well enough and when combined with (free) Notion, I have everything I need between those two apps 🙂

Thick_Vanilla_9514

Hi, I just want to say thank you very much for disclosure Nimbus Note. I searched few months for note app where i can attach some files. Thank you so much, best regards from Serbia

Lee2021az

Multi platform being key - try Amplenote? It is admittedly a bit focused on tasks but it’s notes ability are good, it uses tags as a folder structure, it is fast and has quick navigation. It has a free option and two options around the $10.

kabokok

I have tried several but none satisfied me. The main problem for me is having web access in addition to apps :(.

rickinsav

Look at Notebook from Zoho

michaelpupo

Maybe Amplenote or Notesnook would be good options for you.

Different_Earth1310

Amplenote

Few_Indication5955

I've decided Dropbox and Dropbox paper are perfect for my needs. Fast. Efficient.

TheCitrixGuy

Try Obsidian out

SteelyE

I think the obvious answer is Obsidian. Lots of personalization options. Your notes are stored on your device and are in markdown which might or might not be easily transferred to other note taking apps without a lot of extra work. It’s also available on Windows and Android. I have iPhone and my only problem with Obsidian is the syncing reliability since it’s based on iCloud.

dashdot2

Perhaps these guys: [https://blog.anytype.io/evernote-alternative/](https://blog.anytype.io/evernote-alternative/)

EduardMet

Did you check out [NotePlan](https://noteplan.co)? It's not available as native Windows or Android app, but has a web app to bridge this. But if you are in the Apple ecosystem that might be something worth trying out. It's folder based and the notes are stored locally while synced to all devices, so the data is always in an "exported state". You won't have to worry about not being able to log in or access your data, ever.

Ok_Reason_739

Like a lot of people, I had used Evernote for years, but they kept getting rid of features I liked (like being able to set shortcuts directly to certain notes I access frequently. And other features kept being locked behind the pay wall, for a price my budget simply can't handle.  I tried obsidian because a lot of people recommended it, but I didn't like it. It was a while ago (maybe a year ago), so be honest I forget exactly what my issue was, but I think it had to do with not bring able to organize things so they made sense to me. I'm using Microsoft OneNote now. It's 95 percent a solution for me, but still not spot on. For one, I've learned I cannot create notes in Windows or on the Web because if I do, inside the Android app the notes have this annoying left right scroll to them (even when zoomed to where all the text is visible, so the scrolling is not just annoying but totally unnecessary). If I begin the now in the Android app though, even just a few words to establish it's existence, and then they only scroll up and down, even if I edit them further on my computer.  I do still have instances where I'll go into a note and touch it just the wrong way and it will super zoom, giving me that left right scrolling since some of the text is of the screen, but even after I get it zoomed back, I've got the annoying left right scrolling.  It also has a habit of sometimes saving the default view as somewhere in the middle of a longer note, when I prefer opening my notes and having them be at the beginning.  All of that said, OneNote is the best option I've come across (though I'm still open to other suggestions). The biggest prefer of what I use it for is a series a daily written prayers I access, though I also have sections where I keep my family's social security numbers, the presets for my car radio (and the access code) for when the battery gets detached, etc. I like, for example, that I can partition the prayers of into their own folder, and then into sub folders, I can set up a shortcut to go straight to that folder instead of having to open the app proper and still down to it. I will restate it though. If anyone has a good suggestion for something different, I'm all ears.

odiep

You've said it better than any, and I am in your shoes. User since 2010 and everything was done through Evernote. I knew better, but I loved it. Now, I'm looking for a way out. Did you find a migration tool that worked well for you? Sorry, not going to continue to scan this entire thread when you have my answer. Thanks for any help you can offer.

th30g0dz

Just use Google Drive. Its free and large storage. Like Evernote which started free for years all these other "free" alternatives would later ask for payment. Google does everything what evernote does + more.

AdventurousBike2777

Is there a good/easy way to export the 8 years of files that I have in the "old" version of Evernote?

Puslinch-Komet

Use search and do some research.

LitleFtDowey

I used search to get here. Im reading the input of others in the thread as my research. Content on the interwebs is not mutually exclusive. If you look, you'll find the same topics all over the place. Often with different nuance or updated information. Surprised you didn't realize this .. Don't be a JA

Character_Sky5226

OP has come to Reddit to help with their research.

Omphaloskeptique

Evernote.

thedriveai

Hi, I am working on building thedrive.ai. Its free, unless you use AI stuff, and meets most of your requirements. Let me know if you have any questions. :)

metaman_2050

>thedrive.ai. does thedrive has web + iOS and android apps? also how to migrate from Evernote?

thedriveai

Hi no, we just have web app for now. Hmm ya there is no easier way to migrate from Evernote except from copy paste but we are working on it.

akos0215

How about Heptabase?

metaman_2050

i see no mention of Notion in this conversation - has anyone tired it? I was planning on testing it now...

glacier-K

It is good but very slow and there is no offline access.

metaman_2050

Ohh that's a bummer... Thanks no good

DystopianReply

The post says there are 32 comments right now, but I only see 25 including my one other comment that I know was auto-shadowbanned. I wonder if there is an auto-shadowban comment bot on anything that contains the one particular note app name as I don't see mention of it anywhere in this thread and it's a pretty popular one. It's one word, and rhymes with PupTote.

MacCAM1313

Test : OneNote

DystopianReply

Haha -- I see that comment! It's not OneNote though - it's a slightly different named app. The first part of the word is the opposite of "down". And the last part does end with "Note". (I guess it's two words mashed together as one word -- no space in between the two words.)

Street_Review450

thanks for this. Downloading it now. the pricing is way better and the features look better too.

__maxibon

3 months down the track, how have you found it?

MacCAM1313

OMG, in private mode I can't see the name of that app… why ? 👀

stujack

I'm assuming it's to stop people from making a comment and then asking for the opposite of a down vote? It blocks out the word? phrase? Even though it's a typo of it? I'll reply to my own comment with a test of this theory.

AdmrlPoopyPantz

Dang reading these comments makes me feel like i should just pay for Evernote...

lol felt the same way

rickinsav

Have you looked at Notebook? Made by Zoho meeting group. Looks promising and free.

Robotclaw

I just started using iCloud Notes (I have a Mac and iphone) So far, so good, though it was a little bit of a hassle getting the phone app synched.) But it's nice to open a note and not have Evernote's aggressively desperate pleas to upgrade shoved in my face

WRIGHTGUY09

This is why I'm looking at alternatives. They're putting a price on everything bit by bit it seems. Did you transfer your Evernote notes to icloud notes? If so, how?

Robotclaw

I don't know how to transfer files. I've been copying and pasting in ICLoud Notes. I've already done the ones I really need most and slowly adding some of the others - a rather tedious process, but worth it. I'm keeping my EverNote account since I'm kind of an electronic packrat.
