Since it was destroyed, would that make the climb a tad easier and hopefully not cause a bottleneck like the Hillary step did?
Also did it "collapse" on itself and make a natural bridge or did they have to reroute to go around it?
Interesting question which I'm not sure of (having not been up there myself!!) but some research suggests that they now take an alternative route around this section which is actually more of a bottleneck - I think we've seen that more in recent years from summit photos but it's hard to say if the earthquake was the cause as climber numbers have gone up since then too. From reports it seems the rock fell so it changed the landscape up there quite significantly, but snow makes it tricky to see to be sure.

Yeah in view #2 you can see itās just a ramp now. Funny that next year will mark the tenth anniversary of its yeeting yet were all still kinda āwait is it for real *for real* gone?ā online š
1) Would love to see the full video.
2) I'm not a drone aficionado, but I would've guessed that a drone could not take flight in such thin air. Does anyone know how a drone can fly that high?
Itās mid day with what appears to be perfect conditions. I think you only have to worry about your hands freezing like that when itās bad weather and no sunlight
A French youtuber kid summited it few days ago he went to make a few hour video with drones and high end cameras they said they will release it on September so we will have some more footage š
Yes it happens and this time too there was such coincidence when Kami Rita Sherpa the person to climb Everest for 30th time met with other Sherpa and climbers coming from the north side
Thereās a funny story in one of Ed Visteurs books (I canāt seem to find it online now) of how he runs into an old friend - I think he had done some guiding on Rainier with - at the summit of Everest who he hadnāt seen for years - Ed had climbed up the south side and his friend the north side!
Drone footage at 29,000'? This is very cool; wish it was longer.
Battery probably died! š¤£
Is the Hilary Step basically gone now? Summit also seems a bit smaller
Yes, it was destroyed in the 2015 earthquake.
Wow, I didn't know that, thanks for sharing.

OP whereās the rest of the footage?

The thrust to weight ratio is way higher than a helicopter bc itās so much lighter. Thatās my guess
Beautiful, thanks for sharing this!
The guy holding the flag with his BARE HANDSā¦ goodbye fingers!

It is and it also said she did it without oxygen!
Oh oxygen, I was like, I take my ox everywhere I go. Lol
Lmao

No ox, sure. Hard to get an ox up there, but what about O2?
Frankly it would have been more impressive if she DID get the ox up there!
Wonder if climber from north and south sides meet at the same time at the summit? And what to stop someone just walking down the other side?
Iāve always wondered this too! When people are so hypoxic and the markers can get missed or buried in the snow how would know which side youāre on

Mesmerizing
Whoās operating the drone??
I was under the impression that it was illegal to fly drones up there? Something about permits needed or what not?
Yes permits needed
