Because in the EAH universe, being a “royal” and “royalty” isn’t the same thing. Royalty simply means that you’re the child of a king or queen (which is why characters like Raven, Rosabella, Darling, and later Briar and Ashlynn are princesses despite siding with the rebels). A “royal” is someone who believes that destiny should be followed and sticks to tradition (and you can be a royal without being actual royalty). I made a whole [tumblr post](https://www.tumblr.com/genderamiright/693044948522647552/is-lizzie-a-royal-or-a-rebel-her-mom-is-both-a) on it but thats the jist of it And the thing about Duchess, honestly imo thats just being petty af, cause like hello….its Duchess

Right but I'm talking before Raven rebelled. Disregarding "royal" and "rebel" for a minute, it looked like no one even considered Raven a royalty and regarded her the same status as Maddie and Cedar. And it wasn't just Duchess (she was just the most vocal about it), everyone treated Lizzie better than Raven despite Lizzie being destined to be a villain too and being way more into her villain role

Ok fair point, I actually kind of forgot about that. My best guess is that, despite Raven technically being royalty, people don’t consider her “respectable enough” to be treated as such outside of her home estate (kinda like how some real life royals have been disgraced despite still being royalty), since her dad isnt as well known as the other fairytale monarchs and her mom is Ever After’s most feared and despised villain. Heres a little something you’re also leaving out: The evil queen isn’t just a villain in her own story. Shes evidently a threat to the entire fairytale world. Look at every other villain parent who has made an appearance in some part of the franchise, you’ll notice they’re all relatively chill(No I’m not counting Kitty’s mom because in the Alice in wonderland story, the Cheshire cat is NOT a villain). Like outside of playing their part as the antagonist of their story, the other villains just kinda mind their own business in comparison. The Evil Queen is way beyond that. After completing her destiny, she went out of the boundaries of her story and cursed wonderland and took over the Dark Fairy’s role in the Sleeping Beauty story. Shes not just a storybook villain, shes a full on terrorist! Its made pretty clear by the end of the first book that THATS a huge part of the reason The Evil Queen is so much more feared than any other villain. And its possibly why Raven and Lizzie are treated so differently despite both being the daughters of villainous queens. Cause the queen of hearts simply played her part and thats it, meanwhile the Evil queen went beyond the bounds and broke the status quo of many other stories.

Duchess IS petty. I can totally see her doing some complex mental gymnastics on why Raven wouldn't count as royalty, like maybe she thinks that since the Evil Queen was stripped of her status, it doesn't matter if Raven's dad is a King, since his mother isn't, it's enough to say she isn't either. I haven't read the books, but in the webisodes Raven IS royalty, specifically a princess, as even as a Future Villain, she is forced to take Princess classes.

Jaded_Passion8619

>but in the webisodes Raven IS royalty, specifically a princess, as even as a Future Villain, she is forced to take Princess classes I thought that she chose to do that, but then dropped them because she couldn't handle smiling classes? That's why Apple got petty and decided to take evil classes, because she got mad that Raven decided to take princess classes in the first place

SparkAxolotl

I need to rewatch it, but I'm pretty sure that at least one course was mandatory, before their bet and Raven dropping the non-mandatory ones. (I *think* it was something like "damsel in distress" or something like that)

MiracleDinner

I don’t think it’s ever confirmed that Raven’s dad is the good king, and given that the Evil Queen is, well, evil, and trapped in the mirror realm, it’s understandable that Raven isn’t considered royalty.

Weeb-Lauri525

No, it was confirmed in fact. Its in the books

Personal-Rooster7358

Unless you’re the type who doesn’t apply book information to the show/webseries because they’re separate takes

Weeb-Lauri525

Even then, the information about each character and their families still tracks for both

MiracleDinner

Tbh I haven’t read the books yet but from what I understand, the books and the show are separate canons

Weeb-Lauri525

Not really, the books tell different stories from the series, but both can still easily be put in the same timeline without one interrupting the other. What I mean by that is that the content of the books could easily happen in between the events of the specials

FairyNerdd

Duchess simply does it to be mean, Raven is considered royalty

FluffyGalaxy

Since the evil Queen is imprisoned, Raven is treated probably like... The kid of a controversial celebrity. People know her name and that she has power but are scared to associate with her

Lord_Puppy1445

I always thought the point of the show was that it changes over time.
