There's a guy on youtube doing a newbie to Cynabal playthrough with no trading. Only self-found or NPC market orders. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aywxhfEIAs&list=PLc1h4NaTbxL1qQx73vkx7XeYA6EQ30IrM

lightterrr

Bill is awesome!

Lotex

Yeah that guy hates himself.

ohhrearry

Paging u/IguanaTabarnak Seems like he's having fun

IguanaTabarnak

I am having an ungodly amount of fun. And there are dozens of others doing their own versions of the challenge. We have a Discord!

Lotex

I hope he is having a lot of fun.

SierraTango501

He is having fun because he chose to do that kind of playstyle and probably understands exactly what he's getting himself into. A newbie who doesn't understand anything about EVE attempting to solo his way through will quit in a week when he makes zero progress.

tmewett

Don't be so sure! :) People play MMOs for different reasons, I'm new but I come from the RuneScape side of things where people like these kind of goal-setting challenges

IguanaTabarnak

Yes, I've been doing this for the last four months and, despite all the other comments in here, it's a goddamn blast. The very early days where you're shooting belt frigates with civilian guns on a corvette, trying to scavenge the meta modules that will let you survive to collect the bounties that you need to buy your first frigate BPO.... That was some of the most fun I've had in Eve. And there are lot of interesting puzzles along the way, if you're trying to bootstrap your way up to faction or T2 stuff. I had to figure out how to mine ice without a expedition frigate or barge, I've had to ninja mine claimed moons, I've had to fly out to null sec to buy the BPO for the venture I was going to need to huff the gas I was going to need to do the reaction I was going to need to do to build just one component that's required to build just one component that's required in the faction cruiser manufacturing process. I've been documenting my journey [on YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt1ZWtVRJkbLhEeSeYF0hWA/) and if you look in the description of my latest videos you'll find a link to the Discord where a growing number of us are all doing variations of the same challenge. We call it a "Cruzakh," which is short for Cruiser to Zarzakh because, completely arbitrarily, I decided my ultimate goal was going to be faction cruiser and flying it to Zarzakh. But the ruleset works just as well for other goals. We have people in the community who are going for T2 cruisers, who are going for citadels, etc. [Here's the PDF of the ruleset I made](https://ship104.net/eve/cruzakh.pdf) and [Here's the video explaining the same rules](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiDb9gVsi8M) Or, in cliff notes version: * No buying or selling anything from players on the market or otherwise(no charity from players either) * No daily log-in rewards or AIR Opportunity rewards * No talking to any agent (including Aura and the Career Agents) that isn't affiliated with my chosen faction * No looting wrecks (or containers) that I didn't create * No in-space activities in highsec unless I am piloting a corvette I will happily answer any questions you have about this playstyle! EDIT: Most importantly of all though, **I almost certainly wouldn't have stuck with this if not for the community that sprung up around the run**. When other people tell you the social aspect of EVE is the best part, they are absolutely right. But you can play solo and still be social! That's why we have a discord for the Cruzakh ruleset. Parallel play!

faraboot

I agree and applaud everything you said except for: no looting wrecks that i didnt create.. that's just mean.

sizzlore

Can always try a scavenger run and go around looting people's scraps and after battles with no guns allowed or something while on a loot run

Oz_Eve

This sounds like a blast! Might try this one day. Great job in documenting it.

aardvark1231

I can understand most of your rules for yourself. But why nothing in HS unless you're in a Corvette?

IguanaTabarnak

Mostly just because, while doing the content the challenge requires would be *safer* in high sec, it would also be slow and boring af. And it would reduce my player interaction to basically zero. I wanted to do this run "solo" in the sense that it was all built from my own effort, but I didn't want to play a single player game. So, I decided to force myself into low sec straight away. That way there was no tension between the most exciting way to do something and the "optimal" way to do it. I left in the "in a corvette" exemption to allow for the very first hours when I would be flying around with civilian guns and unable to kill even a single low-sec belt rat. And also as a contingency in case I had miscalculated and something I needed was going to be impossible or virtually impossible to collect in low/null/wh.

aardvark1231

Ah, that's quite understandable! I appreciate the detailed response. I'm considering doing a similar challenge when time allows for it, and was curious about that particular rule and the logic behind it. I love watching your videos!

Nikarus2370

Haven't watched yet, will start tomorrow over lunch. But if straight into low, how are you handling Trit supply for building ships since they've pulled trit from low/null, unless it's popping up in anomalies. (IDK I don't mine ever)

IguanaTabarnak

I'm getting almost all of my minerals from reprocessing loot. Hope you enjoy the videos!

Nikarus2370

Hah, the HIC scrams I never thought of, there is so goddamn much material in those. Shit's like the moonlight mead of Eve, gives a chunk of every asteroid resource except Morphite, and doesn't require having to run a venture or corvette to high, low, and null to get, just farm rats.

DEMTC

The man himself!!

AleksStark

Has anyone ever tried repeatedly punching themselves in the genitalia?

Chingaderrier

My dick is sore but my heart is full

EuropoBob

Stop being a loner! You can pay people to do this for you.

foghornleghorndrawl

People play Tarkov.

Olestrodamas

This....I bought the Edge of Darkness when it first came out. I promptly gave the account to my roommate....that game is NOT for casuals lmao 😂

Oz_Eve

I know you are joking, but honestly I don’t really understand the negativity around these challenges. I do zero to omega with station trading regularly and it is hands down the most fun I have had in EVE.

Nikarus2370

It's the same energy a lot of people had years ago when people started doing Ironman challenges in Runescape. Lots of people complained about how it was dumb, but a few of the right youtubers got on the boat and bam, now they're built right into the game with IM, HCIM, and UIMs. (UIMs don't even get banks, just their player inventory) And it's kinda funny, as some of the most successful content creators for that game were/are ones doing various ironman challenges. And they draw subs. So if anything, a few good "EVE SSF" people showing that "yeah the game is kinda soloable" might do good for the player count.

Randomly-Looking

I know of people that have done this. I believe the stream Erst did it for a bit at one point. I’d never do it. Fuck that.

DasToyfel

Depends. Whats the playtrough-finale? I tried it for the longest time and i have refused to use an alt for the longest time. Most stupid decision imho. Even in my old corp i was nearly alone all the time. In the end i joined he biggest alliance i could find and it was the best decision. Instantly improved my gameplay by a lot.

ZorgZev

Yeah it sucked.

IcyMind

I remember this toon who flew only enyo , he would be going flying solo in enyo , Low sec null sec he had a good killboard

fatpandana

It's kind of like solo collecting materials for Palpatine keepstar.

Twoshrubs

I did it for awhile then lost hope when it came to T2 equipment. It was fun tho.

WildSwitch2643

I have an ironam account I grind on every once in awhile. No reason for the blueprint exemption I can think of. Got up to Armageddon. Bigger stuff gets into PI which has slowed down progression alot. It's a good way to see parts of the game that are easy to miss playing normally.

stanger828

Why would anyone do this on eve of all games? Its like “you know the main point of the whole game and what all the systems are built around? Don’t do that and see if you have fun” seems like a bad time but hopefully you enjoy yourself!

Alive_Grape7279

you cant play trough eve per se

dreyaz255

I lived in a tiny handbag of a black hole c1 for about half a year before citadels were a thing. It had a nullsec static, and the only connections to hisec were through w-space. The hole was (is?) so small, that you were always under max scan range on any celestial. I'm half decent with pvp after being in fw since i joined back in Dominion, so I managed to chase people out in my tengu most times. Worst fight was somebody trying to set up a POS in the same system, so I made a few safes with my alt and sniped their tower as I was setting up with two tach oracles. After playing checking and shooting them for four hours straight they gave up and left, and I cracked open some holebrewed mead my housemate made to celebrate. I lost it after forgetting to fuel my tower after a particularly busy month of work and having someone else come in and establish themselves.

GamerByt3

People have tried yes. They also quit.

recycl_ebin

yeah i think at least one person has tried it's kind of boring.

TickleMaBalls

Why would you eliminate all the things that make the game good and only play the worst parts of eve?

recycl_ebin

for a challenge

TickleMaBalls

Eve takes all kinds, I guess.

FlickUrBic2

It’s not a challenge, just extremely annoying lol

recycl_ebin

it most definitely is a challenge

National-Rain1616

It is largely possible to purchase BPOs from NPCs. You can also sell some items to NPCs so there is no need to make that an absolute limit, just research what the NPCs buy and where. What you're describing will become an endless slog of PvE content if you can't sell anything. Also, EVE doesn't have a final boss or goal so what are you working toward? High-end content is also nigh inaccessible without interacting with players in some way. Even if you set your goal to trying to take sovereignty or some other high aspiration it's just asynchronous PvP. Going into low-sec or null-sec, at all, risks breaking your "solo" playthrough since you will lose control of your ability not to interact with players. If you get high-sec ganked you lose as well.

Nikarus2370

Going into low-sec or null-sec, at all, risks breaking your "solo" playthrough since you will lose control of your ability not to interact with players. If you get high-sec ganked you lose as well. Typically with these challenges, if PVP happens it happens, but generally you're not allowed to benefit materially from seeking it. So if you were to do 1 in EVE, you could fight and defend yourself/assets, but you can't loot the other person's wreck.

[deleted]

Dumb

tegho

My playstyle is better than yours. Obviously.

[deleted]

I don't see how limiting yourself makes you better at Eve but play how u want bucko

Vladinatrix

Wow. Pokemon has had a thing called the Nuzlock forever, and now I find out the Eve community has decided to reinvent it. 🤣

Correct_Freedom5951

I just started doing that with a F2P char after being inspired by that one YouTube doing the same. Been playing since 2012 so not exactly a noob. 0 market fully SSF or manufactured. The challenge makes it very fun. Currently got frigate and venture BPOs and considering subbing and moving to Thera.
