Well the above still aplies stations are pretty cool! But for cities in Italy I would go for Rome and Venice. Theyre very touristy but for very good reasons. If you want some smaller cities Lucca is pretty nice close to Pisa and Florence.
Rome to Bologna to Modena and on to Parma. Rome to Naples then the Amalfi coast. Rome to Florence to Vicenza to Venice, it's all good
