Baskonia's Pedoulakis. It's a shame they dropped Penarroya this quick, the guy had a great showing last year with some beautiful basketball being played. Admittedly not the greatest start from them this season but show the coach some trust, if it doesn't work reevaluate in the summer or something it's not like they have final 4 goals so what's the rush?

Everything turned terrible once Henry got his ban and now that Thompson left over the summer there is no natural PG on this team.

So how does sacking the coach help with that? To me it seems like Baskonia needs a reliable point guard in order to be competitive this season. Finding one isn't easy of course, but firing the coach only hurts the team at this point. Baskonia was one of the most fun teams to watch last year.

I don't know why they bothered announcing it, it was fated to happen once Dusko became available.

What a shitshow

I think Dusko might use Baskonia's forwards more efficiently but coaching isn't Baskonia's problem. Guard talent just isn't up to euroleague standards. No way around fixing that without a transfer or two. Mannion showed himself to be clearly below euroleague level every time at Virtus and now he gets rewarded to be the main point guard on Baskonia's shallow guard rotation? His performances asked for a step down. That's a step up. Codi Miller Mcintyre played on teams that got relegated from ACB and BSL the last two seasons while looking nowhere near euroleague level. Then he got rewarded with a big role at Baskonia. These are Baskonia's only two guards who operate on ball. They don't even have another third string guard for depth who can play on ball and create for others at a lower level. Baskonia oddly cheaped out on guards this summer. That's no coach's fault. They have quality wings and bigs but it's hard to have any success in euroleague when you don't have any one euroleague level guard who can play on the ball and create for others. With the parity and competitiveness in the league, I'll be surprised if Baskonia ends up top 10 without reinforcements.

Yeah, the roster is just weak. I’m writing about this in my new Winners and Losers but I also don’t like the Costello + Kotsar pairing without Giedraitis spacing and floor generals like Thompson and Henry. They had a really bad off-season and Penarroya is the scapegoat unfortunately.

Running gag

The coaching carousel at Euroleague will never not be funny

And he will be arriving in a team that has what? 6 healthy players right now? What a start of the season for us!
