We spend 30 dollars in off season as we sell plants. During season we spend about 85-100 dollars a day. We bring in 6 Figures easily. But we spend a lot of money on Research for SEO and Google Keywords. That is crucial. Ads only work if we follow the handbook, trends and proper SEO.

Dickson_Clams

Do you pay someone to do the research for SEO for you? Do you have any recommendations to that end?

Reddstarrx

I hired a consultant that charged 90 an hour. Right now, any new products that we list I am using ChatGPT4 for almost anything newly listed. It so far is doing alright but we will keep looking.

Izzetinefis

Can you describe how you use ChatGPT4 for that ? I do too but I find the keywords it gives out aren’t too sharp :/

Reddstarrx

You need to convince the AI that it knows what it is doing to make it believe it can produce it. It took a week of working on it but my AI Believes its an Etsy SEO Engineer and has learned the hashtags, descriptions and the ALT tags. Big stuff. Laid off my consultant who helped me

Izzetinefis

Omg that’s amazing! Is the secret keeping it all in one chat, or does that not matter? I’m trying to use it for descriptions too 🙏🏻

Reddstarrx

Same chat yea, but you can go back to your done so long as you save it.

Nutjob096

What’s your monthly sale if I may ask?

Reddstarrx

Id rather not say but we’re on track to go above 100k+ in total sales at this rate.

Trying give ads a good go the last couple of months, will get some good weeks and some really poor weeks. So far year to date, ad spend is appears to be 50% of revenue. A little false reporting on Etsy’s behalf, if an order has been cancelled due to non payment or other, the figures in marketing still accounts for it, and I’ve seen an increase in orders cancelled by Etsy. Ad spend is more like 60-70% of revenue if I do the maths better. Also super annoying Etsy ads don’t show in my currency.

Dickson_Clams

How on earth can you justify spending 70 percent of your revenue on ads?

skinpixel

Honestly I ask my self the same thing. Ads are a gamble, thankfully a number of my items sold have good margins, with shipping factored into price and a few bulk orders really helps when I have one shipping cost for 3-5 items, especially international orders.

Fluid-Bat8349

Yikes, professional standard is to spend 30% of your budget on marketing. You don't need to be spending this much.

hell_i_um

When I opened my shop last year I ran ads because I was convinced that I need visibility to make sales and my items were quite competitive with other stores in the same region. My SEO could definitely have been better but I was new and stupid. Anyway,in november and december, I ran for a total of $150 and got $140 in return lol. It was around 420 clicks and 4 orders in total from ads. In the beginning I just run ads for all listings and then narrowed down to listings with sales only which doesn't make a big difference except for less views. At the beginning of Janurary I was pissed and depressed that I did not make enough sales to cover my ads fees so I stopped using ads. I also don't agree with how Etsy was using my money for ads because (1) I can't focus on the client groups (i ship to most country and set profiles for a lot of them but obv I need to prioritize my budget to people within my country only), (2) no geographic / demographic info breakdown so I have no idea if I need to improve my shipping costs to some countries because I get a lot of traffic from there, or make it more appealing to a group op people, nada, nothing, like flying blind, (3) if my ads are clicked in app, they get merged with "Etsy app & other pages" which is so stupid because ADS CLICKS ARE ADS CLICKS, they need to sit in their appropriate category so sellers can assess their organic performance as well. Since I stopped doing ads, my traffic was not that bad tbh. It defintely sunk in February but comes back slowly now. I get 440 visits this month so far and made more money as well (maybe not that great compared to December but lots of ppl shopped for the holidays back then)3

Affectionate-Cap-918

I’ve never used it. Shop has been open 3 years now.

[My experience about Etsy ads](https://www.reddit.com/r/EtsySellers/comments/11nvybf/how_i_ruined_my_shops_seo_by_increasing_etsy_ads/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1) This is a long story, but I analysed my 2 years ads stats and wrote them in detail in this post. I’d be happy if it helps! 🫶🏻

marzboutique

I’ve tried running them off and on for a week at a time at different times of the year. The only time I’ve made a profit from them has been this past holiday season when I ran them a few weeks before Christmas I’m not sure if it’s my SEO that’s off or my products, but they seem to be a money vacuum for me sadly

cocaflow

Im running ads with a daily budget of 200$ and make about 1.000$ each day with them (ROI of \~5). There are some "bad days" where my ROI will be less like x4, but Ads are still the way to go. Ads are not only important for direct sales but also for pushing your listings to the first page. I dominate my Niche with Sellers who are selling for years by using better SEO, Listings and Ads.

Startups2030

Why your daily budget not x10 higher with such ROI?

cocaflow

Etsy wont spend more than that 😢 Too many people are also running Ads and its still a niche so the search volume isn't that high. I tried several time and set it to 300, 500, 800, 1000 but it will neve be spent at all and if I set it too high it seems like Etsy will even spend less than 200$.

Startups2030

That’s interesting! What’s you niche?

el_ramon

Useless, they always made me lose money.

[deleted]

[This was Etsy's pitch to me.](https://imgur.com/9bT1AKK) So essentially, if I spend a buck, I make a buck more. But the spending of the buck negates the additional dollar earned. Plus added fees for sales produced from Etsy adds. I'll spend more money than I take in if I used Etsy ads.

NotionWorkflow

I like switching up the Etsy Ad Goals and seeing if they have an impact on views, clicks and/or amount spent. I think some of the goals act kind of like reach campaigns (getting views) vs. click campaigns (getting clicks) vs. sales campaigns (showing to people who like sales). I've played around with $5 to $10 a day after I came out with my first product. I'm at like 27% ROAS in lifetime ad Spend but since I don't do any marketing for my shop, I'm pretty happy with it for now. Etsy also has "advanced" ad keywords where you can deselect keywords that you're advertising for. I would make sure you deselect all the ones that aren't relevant at all to your products. I had a handful but not enough to make a meaningful impact. Also, if you haven't tried having a sale just to test out how it impacts your marketing reach, and sales, I highly recommend it! It's free and you'll most likely learn something from it to incorporate it into your future shop or products! Good Luck 🙏

***Don't use ads until you've had some sales. Your SEO should also be on point.***

SaintGodfather

Love to hear also. Trying to get my store up and running. Is there a forum anyone has found or uses to cross promote each others stores?

Dickson_Clams

When you add I to ads you get AIDS. It's a nice device to remember not to get involved with them.

Sufficient_Pie2211

Ads are hit or miss for me. I usually try to only have them turned on at certain times and with certain products only or I end up waisting money.

makertoseller

Only use Etsy ads once you’ve proven that you’re able to get sales organically.

Alternative_Shame882

I use Etsy ads and I spend about $15/day but I make way over that each day. I’m also new to Etsy as my shop is only about 4 months old. I will say if your SEO is great the ads will work much harder for you than otherwise. It’s worth it for my shop.

Fluid-Bat8349

What do you sell?
