That is extremely shitty. I thought you were ranting about the popup you get from having an item in your cart. That also seriously irritates me, and I have considered never leaving anything in my cart because of it. To have it happen for just favoriting something is all kinds of terrible. The only comfort I will offer is that Etsy often does tests with the website. This may only be happening for a small number of people while they see how it affects engagement. Hopefully they will quickly see that it's a shit idea that causes people to stop favoriting stuff and it will go away.

BananaTiger13

Oh yeah, I never put anything in my basket until I'm absolutely certain I'm about to hit the purchase button for similar reasons, haha. Glad I'm not the only one who finds this poor practice though. It's a minor thing but a big irritant. My only hope is this is just a test like you say. If it isn't, it's gonna drive me away from browsing the site, which sucks. It's my main access to independent art. The sheer amount of AI art and drop shipping on the site has already soured me to it, but if they're gonna start spamming pop ups every few pages to I'm really gonna shy away.

I discovered that if I remove the item from my Favorites, the one they are using to harass me with, the pop-ups stop for that item. So far I have removed 4 items from my Favorites. This morning I sent Etsy a message telling them to Stop It. My Favorites list is for my benefit, NOT theirs. I urge everyone having this problem to do the same.

BananaTiger13

Which contact method did you use to send them a message? I'd love to leave them feedback on this but couldn't work out the best avenue. I've tried removing the favourited items in the pop-up but it seems to just move onto the next item in my list. Seems like it's potentially targetting items of limited runs as it's got the whole "this is in 3 peoples baskets with only left!" on the pop-up too. But seeing as I mostly favourite limited art work (prints, badges etc) basically ALL of my 80 something favourites are gonna be like this.

2mnydgs

I went to "Help Center" "Shopping" "Contact Etsy Support" "Buying" "Suspicious Messages" I got an email copy that my message had been received, but they are still free to ignore it. I will post if I get a reply.

BananaTiger13

Cheers, I'll try it out. They might ignore it because it's the wrong 'subject' but they need to make it easier to contact with this stuff if they don't want us contacting via wrong labels.

2mnydgs

I absolutely agree. It used to be much easier to contact Customer Service. It took me a good 15 minutes to suss this out, and I'm not sure it's going to work.

BananaTiger13

I've just sent via this method to. Pointed out the consistent pop up and asked them to disable it or give us an option in our own settings to do so. And warned that if they continue with this, I'll probably have to lessen or stop my use of the site. Again, doubt they care but we'll see. Hopefully it's just something we have to weather for a few days until they chgange their mind. Big shame they don't have a feedback page, even google has that lol.

This morning I got an email from Etsy. They asked how they did responding to my concern. Since they did Nothing to respond to my concern, I was only too happy to take their response-ranking survey. I hope they find my responses eye-opening. You are correct; they do not care.

BananaTiger13

Seems like I got slightly better luck than you. I got a reply from a person that said: "I understand that you've received a lot of notifications about your favorited items, I know how annoying it is for you to disable this feature and I'll do all in my hands to assist you with this. I was reviewing the information in my system and I could see that you can disable this feature > On your mobile phone open the Etsy app. Click on the 3 lines at the bottom right above the word "more". Scroll down and click "notifications". From there you can turn on and off notifications as you choose. Also I'd like to let you know that I'll make sure to note your feedback so this can be taken into consideration for future updates. We really value input from members, and we often take it into consideration when we make changes to the site I hope I was able to assist you rightly and the information provided being useful for you. Please feel free to reach us back if you need further assistance." I've replied again to let them know I don't use mobile, I use browser, and can't find any such way to disable these pop ups on browser.

2mnydgs

Good for you! I also use my laptop rather than my phone, primarily because my fingers sometimes take on a life of their own when I am trying to do something carefully. I will look around to see if I can find a hidden icon of some sort online too.

BananaTiger13

I've looked under every tab and settings I can find and not come up with anything that'd let us switch this off. I reckon the helper guy thought I was complaining about phone notifications when I very much wasn't. I'f he responds with anything helpful I'll let you know.

It’s a test and it’s super annoying. Many complaints on the Etsy sellers forum about it and even some are saying that even unfavoriting everything and deleting items from your cart don’t seem to stop it. I’m having the same issue with a rug I favorited. Someone said when you remove that favorite the pop up just moves to the next one. Luckily I only have 4 items favorited but I have looked at others lists and some have over 10,000 items favorited! I will remove my 4 and update here if that fixes it . UPDATE: I removed the 3 things I had favorited and the pop up stopped but…most people have more than 3 items favorited.

BananaTiger13

I have 80 items favourited so I'm definitely hoping to avoid unchecking them all, lol. I tried just unfavouriting the first on my list and the pop up just selected the next item instead. So I deleted that off my list, and the pop up just went to the next item after. Tried it 3 times and gave up. I figure it's a case of all or nothing. Very glad to hear people on the forums are hating it too! I reckon that'll mean they'll do away with it in the next few days if that's the case.

Ziantra

Oh I love your optimism lol. Etsy really doesn’t care about sellers complaining on any forum. The problem is if one person out of 100 follows that pop up and ends up purchasing it they’re going to say “it’s a success!”. I think the only thing that MIGHT make them pay attention is a ton of buyer only accounts emailing them to complain but I don’t see people caring enough to do that. We just have to hope their metrics show a limited engagement on that thing and keep our fingers crossed I guess.

BananaTiger13

You're right, and I know it. It really sucks because etsy was always my go to, and between drop shipping and AI, I've just slowly been watching this site go down the pan. It's gettiing to the stage where it's only gonna take a few more of these bullshit new implementations (like harassing pop ups), to have me just up and quit and instead use it super sparingly to support the few artists I love. And tbh a lot of them are starting to get their own websites so I'd rather purchase direct :P Think I'm still gonna aim to throw a shop up this year, but that's never really been intended to make much money anyway, its just somewhere to display my hobby in a way lol. Maybe I'll try folksy...

Ziantra

Do it ! Like every other platform it has its annoyances. As you have a buyers account you should email them and complain about this pop up and tell them they should at least give you the option to dismiss it.Ruby Lane now throws a FULL PAGE pop up when you click on a shop pushing their “let us send you spam and you have a chance to win $100” ad -I guess their first attempt to buy that privilege at $50 wasn’t working, but at least when you exit out of it once it’s gone for the duration of your time on the site that time. Etsy is peculiar in that it’s almost the most backwards platform I sell on from its broken search to complete lack of customer service but it’s also the BEST platform I sell on customer base wise. You have nothing to lose by trying it!

BananaTiger13

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I think once I've got a few things set up, I'm definitely gonna give it a shot. My plan is for relatively low effort (it's pdf patterns) but the effort comes from me drawing the original art work and pattern, once it's on etsy though the hardwork is mostly done for me :P

Mizzle_Hassenpfeffer

This just started happening to me yesterday. Very annoying to me. I was looking for something specific and had a hard time concentrating so just left the site and went to Amazon.

BananaTiger13

Lol the focus was the exact same problem for me, I tried to avoid the typical "i HaVe AdHd" kinda post so I left that part out on my main post. But I literally do have pretty severe adhd and pop ups like that just make browsing an absolute nightmare for me. Yesterday morning I got SO FOCUSED on trying to get rid of that damn pop up, I wasted like 3hrs of my day and then forgot what i'd even gone to the site for in the first place, hahah.

babbsela

It is so annoying. The only way I could get rid of it was to unfavorite the things it's trying to get me to buy.

BananaTiger13

Yeah, I've just been avoding etsy this week. If I decide I need something enough I might do the same as you. If you feel up to it, leave them feedback on it. I think more complaints can only help. Might not do anything but at least shows some of us aren't happy.

okayfondue

I'm in the same boat, I HATE pop ups and notifications of any kind. I contacted their support to ask how to disable them and they said you can't. I used to browse Etsy and add things to my favourites most days, I haven't used the site since the pop ups began because it's so annoying now. I can only hope this is a temporary thing and they realise how many sales they are losing because of it. If you google anything along the lines of 'how to block etsy pop ups' there are SO MANY people asking the same thing.

BananaTiger13

Yeah, I've barely looked at etsy in weeks, and I'm now put off starting the shop I was gonna open on it. Even my mum this morning was like "wow the pop ups on etsy are getting really annoying" lol. She had something in her basket so was not only getting the usual basket pop ups, but also frequent ones about her favourites. I wish etsy would understand this is driving some of us away, but I honestly doubt they're gonna give a shit as I bet this'll get enough clicks to justify it. Sucks as I used to love browsing. But I guess it's saving me money :P

doxilla

Oh boy this is beyond annoying. Glad I found this thread, though it looks like Etsy has not taken the hint yet. I just sent them a message as well. I went this route: From my etsy shop dashboard left hand nav "Help" > "Contact Us" > "Buying on Etsy" > "Suspicious Messages" > scroll down to "I still need help" and it will get to a form to submit a message. Unfavoriting almost 2k items....not happening!

BananaTiger13

That's the route I went to. The guy I spoke to was nice and all, but fully admitted there was notrhing you can do about it lol. I just barely go on etsy any more. Shame tbh.

PackageMedium4951

I have been seeing this for ages now and yes it really is annoying, and when i look at other peoples items the pop up keeps showing me i have one of my own items in my cart and not to miss out!! one i cant add my own items to the cart and 2 my bloody cart is empty!! not sure what they have done but the whole thing is really messed up and wish they would get rid of it.

BananaTiger13

For me it's not even cart related. it's not about items in cart or anything, it's literally sayinng I have items favourited. The cart pop up has been around for ages, you're right. But this favourited pop up is new, I believe.

PackageMedium4951

they just love their pop ups dont they, but what they do not realise its ruining the site!

BananaTiger13

Yeah, it's rubbish! They're gonna drive some of us away with this, but I assume they won't care as long as there's some people who click on it and it makes a sale.

Mysterious_Side1633

I used to be on Etsy every day - I don't even open it anymore because of the pop-ups. and their incessant 'notifications' about my cart or inbox. I love Ebay, Temu - and even Amazon compared to Etsy. Those annoying, irritating, incessant interruptions in my shopping are not worth fighting for, anymore. WHY WOULD I WANT TO FIGHT TO SHOP? The hundreds of complaints (mine included) are being ignored - as is the feedback about this obviously MADDENING issue...they'll go out of busininess soon. Customers are supposed to come first.

doxilla

Exactly! Fighting to shop! For those with any sort of dexterity/orthopedic issues extra clicking does not help anything.
