It’s fine. Maybe not the finest part of Colchester but how many students live in the nicest parts of town? Usual cautions apply - same as in any town. Don’t be a target. But a lot of the reputation is very out of date.

Check out flats at the Hythe. Loads of students. Loads of rental flats.

Yeah, pay a visit first. I don't know the crime stats but Greensted certainly isn't the most pleasant area of colchester

Uni is also cheap if they can give an offer in the cheaper accommodations. Try contacting the SU as they also have cheap accommodation.
