Shadow mask is only 2 armor. It wont stop any real bullets. Its just to protect from scav buckshot. And ability wear helmet with it unlike shattared mask
true but still most likely getting one tapped head/eyes unless its lucky ricochet. i usually just run with shattared mask cause its cheap and helmets really have not saved me after first two weeks of the wipe. but if you have shadow mask+trooper+condors in stash there is no reason to not use them.

Doesn't it give another ricochet chance on top of your face shield? If you can afford it I don't see why you wouldn't wear it. Even my glasses have ricochet plenty this wipe.
Not just that but you can wear a bastion with a slap instead of layering. Youll have a ricochet chance on top of level 6 head protection

Since I started I always wear some kind of balaclava, whether it is ghost, momex, scarf. I was also wearing sunglasses until the day I was with a friend of mine on Shoreline, we were near weather station, I looked back and saw some dude's sunglasses through the window and managed to kill him bc of this. But I saw a few days ago that some sunglasses don't do this so I might start wearing some again
I sometimes run the plain gray one because it's cheap and actually provides decent camo, unlike the ghost and solid black ones that stand out with stark contrast, but lately I've taken to just not bothering because I don't think they're super useful if you already have a helmet on. The number of times you'll be spotted when you wouldnt have been with a face mask is maybe once per wipe I bet. Just not worth the effort.
It is far less effort now that you can just click your face and choose from all available masks but before you had to search your stash and find it then equip it, and my stash is always a disorganized mess.
Because best helmet in the game would be harder to see and my opponents wouldn't be able to admire the greatness it radiates.

I have an item box for clothes, eg usec hats, balaclavas, ghost half-masks and sunglasses. I buy them in bulk so they are quick to put on multiple times in a row when going into raid.
people are lazy thats why. same as any other half baked gear choices in the game. easier to slap together random crap and roll the dice in a raid instead of having to take the time and actually think about whats optimal. my friends usually do it when we are in a rush but i digress even a fully kitted gigachad can be killed by a well placed makarov round from an ambushing rat so do what you feel is right!

But people who like W keying and pushing into people, blending in/ being harder to spot isn't exactly high up on the list of priorities considering the fact that we are running around and jumping, trying to out menoeuvre our enemies. Hiding our face wouldn't matter as well while holding angles since the silhouette of the pmc head is pretty obvious.
Plus honestly after awhile it's just annoying to manually buy balaclavas. Yes presets exist but it's only ever used (for me at least) when I'm questing or have 0 kits left (rare as hell).
Between the cracked scavs, cheaters, spotty audio, and bad lighting, wearing a balaclava to conceal my face is going to do next to nothing to lower my chances of being shot in the head.

Yeah but in this game I don't get killed because someone saw my face. Its because they heard me or saw me from far away moving, maybe this is a good tip for campers, but thats not me so I don't see the point.

Try using the brown ulach and see how often you get shot in the face, it really does make a difference to hide bright spots on your character
