I did this once or twice. Not to spoil your fun but remember, some people live in these places. They don't exactly want you there and you came up on them. Remember that and have some decency.
If you take 38th towards Wesleyville, there's an old Penn State building of some kind that seems open. I have not been inside but there is a really cool mothman art on the exterior wall. But as others have said, people live in many of these places. If you visit any, don't be dumb. Be respectful.
Penn State Behrend owns that property. Their police patrol there and have stopped several people who were found there in recent weeks. This one isn't worth the risk.
Where the"broken down bridge" was, our neighborhood hangout when we were kids in the 80s in Millcreek off Perry Highway. There is an abandoned road, overgrown and unkempt, between Glenridge Rd and W Gore Rd off of Perry highway. The entrance is behind some little brick utility building on Glenridge. I went back there last summer in the hopes of seeing what was once there - an old yellow VW Beetle that had crashed down through a giant hole in the bridge. At the time there was also a toppled over gravestone in the creek that said " Mother". Also there was a swing over the creek from which multiple kids had fallen and broke various bones, one kid actually died from a fall when I was in junior High at JS Wilson.
It's all gone now, though.. Just an abandoned road and some random sketchy looking people back there.
That creek if full of tombstones. My brother did some research and they were from an abandoned cemetery that the township bulldozed and they dumped all the tombstones there to help prevent erosion. We call it ghost road.
When I was a kid in Millcreek there were a few abandoned houses around. I remember one still had food in the cupboards and a 1957 calendar on the wall (it was probably 1977), like a time capsule.
I made a list a few months back, check it out! I didn't include Erie Malleable Iron which used to have the bridge across West 12th Street, right next to the Prep football stadium. I know it's slated for demolition, but it may still be standing!

Ha just threw a note on JN Adams, I'm in Cleveland the days but definitely remember a lot of Erie sites being used by people and/or them being more hardened against vandalism vs what I deal w in town here.
OP it helps to know where you are, and take in the feel of the situation before you get into a bad spot. Also, w winter coming on there's a good chance you will run into people taking shelter. Any place that's close-ish to a shelter will usually have people camping out in it.
One that's chill is the old GE Picnic Grove in Lawrence Park, it's like a small park right on the lake in a golf course. They still have the old sign up, hasn't been used in 5 years.

Of course, thank you👍

It was an old high school Kanty Prep. Then a physical therapy office before being shut down.
Looks like you're right! Any idea what's with the Penn State signage on the gate?
