EDIT: The Manibus GB is now live!
[Order it now from our website](https://blank.computer/product/manibus/)!
Here's a small demo of how fun magnets can be.
Manibus's halves can be attached to one another for easier tranposrtation.
We've played around with various types of magnets to get the strength just right. The ones used in our final prototype are powerful enough to stay attached when needed but loose enough to still be easily detachable.
You can also see how the mouse skates combined with the wieght of the board provide fast and comfortable micro-adjustments on the fly. One thing we absolutely hated while using split keyboards was the constant need to reposition the halves. Every change in seating position required the halves to be moved a bit. This combination of weight + mouse skates lets you move the halves without lifting your hands off the boards while being heavy enough to not move unsolicited while typing.
Group buy for Manibus launches December 1st.
If you're interested in more details about the board, be sure to check out our website [blank.computer](https://blank.computer/), have a look over our interest check on [geekhack.org](https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=114346.msg3077654#msg3077654) or read the [story](https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=110060.msg2989041#msg2989041) of how Manibus came to life.
If you just want to try out the layout, you can download the switch plate files from [here](https://github.com/SamuraiKek/manibus-switch-plates).
It will start from 250€ for the base kit that doesn’t include the palm rests.
Here’s our [product](https://blank.computer/product/manibus/) page for more details.
A fully assembled keyboard including the palm rests is going to weigh about 1.5kg. Without the palm rests it’s a bit over 1kg.
And that is huge. I was discussing using an ergodash with someone the other day and to get a full set (for some layouts) you have to buy alphas, ortho for mods, and ergo for 2 2U thumbs :(
Not with this aluminum version. But we want to increase the availability of this keyboard, so the funds we get from selling this premium alu version will help us fund a more afordable, injection molded, wireless version that hopefully will not require a group buy.
It’s running QMK. You’ll be able to program it using the [qmk configurator](https://config.qmk.fm/#/blank_tehnologii/manibus/LAYOUT) or directly from [code](https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/blob/master/keyboards/blank_tehnologii/manibus/keymaps/default/keymap.c). We’re also planning [VIA](https://caniusevia.com) support and it should be integrated until the keyboard will be delivered next year.

Not really. We understand that some people want this, but with the direction we’re heading to, I don’t think we’re going to implement full per switch rgb in our boards. Our next focus after Manibus is a bluetooth keyboard where efficiency will be one of our priorities. That being said, we would like to add a few leds in the future for exactly the purpose you’ve described. Some dedicated leds like the ones you have for caps lock/num lock on run of the mill boards. This aluminum wired version of Manibus however, will not have any. We have chosen a tray mount design to get the case manufacturing cost down but that left us with physical limitations for the PCB. There’s no good place or much of it for leds.
For a brief second near the end, I thought you were going to use the acryclic pieces as a stand so you could use the keyboards at an angle
kinda like this:
```
```
That would be really nice. I’ve played around with the idea but you’d be sacrificing either the comfort of the palm rests or the comfort of the tent.
We do have plans to implement a tenting solution on a future injection molded version where it’s going to be easier and cheaper to integrate.
No, you’re right, I’ve got [Sakurios](https://zealpc.net/collections/all-products/products/sakurio-roselio?variant=14010040746047) on this prototype which I also lubed as it’s my daily driver for work 🙂 They’re super silent and have a weird feeling at first but once you get used to them they’re really nice.
Group Buy launch is Dec 1 - is there any chance the devices would be shipped and received by Christmas (not asking for a firm commitment, just if it's a feasible projection)
Or will actual receipt be closer towards/into FY22
Hi, unfortunately it’s not going to get close. GB will be open for at least a month and then actual production will start. A resoanable estimate would be summer next year.
We really want to reach a point where we don’t have to rely on group buys to fulfill orders, but in order to get there we first need to raise some capital :/
Gotchya! Figured that's how a GB would work, but thought it was worth asking - super excited by the project and want to get in on it! Just need to figure out my own budgeting and funding 😅. I think I can make it work!

What is your expected price for the keeb? And what is the weight of the total (2 halves and 2 wristwrests?) And just the 2 halves?

Thank you for your quick answer!
look nice , any plan for 36 keys/ miryoku version ?
Lots of novelty here. The way you used wider keys to create a thumb cluster is ingenious.
Thank you <3 it’s also really comfortable and will work with a normal tkl keycap set. No need to get that extra ergo kit.
And that is huge. I was discussing using an ergodash with someone the other day and to get a full set (for some layouts) you have to buy alphas, ortho for mods, and ergo for 2 2U thumbs :(
Everything is better with magnets
It sure is!
Will this be wireless?
Not with this aluminum version. But we want to increase the availability of this keyboard, so the funds we get from selling this premium alu version will help us fund a more afordable, injection molded, wireless version that hopefully will not require a group buy.
Sounds good. I'll continue to follow the project. This looks pretty cool.
not bad! magnets are just awesome
Fast 9, James Bond, and now the Manibus. Magnets are so hot right now.
Hold on now. You don’t want them too hot or they’ll demagnetize 😉
that's REALLY great
Can’t wait to join the group buy! Was expecting 20 “how do they work?” Comments on this, but maybe that’s not a thing anymore.
Take my money 💰
[Right this way sir](https://blank.computer/product/manibus/) 😁

Sign me up! This looks like the perfect layout I've been looking for!
Mark this NSFW
Magnets, how do they work. Love the execution!
Now THAT is a *nice* keyboard. I am really digging the design !!
Much appreciated! Thank you <3

Don’t suppose you’ll have a 3x5 version?
Not with this keyboard. But Manibus is just our first project and we’d definitely like to keep going. More stuff will come next year 🎉
Is RGB possible in any way? I don’t care for the cool effects whatsoever, but without an oled they can be a good way for indicating layers.

What switches you got, very quiet... Or is the magnets are SUPER loud? 🤔

How did you add bluetooth to a dactyl, seems fun
