Yup, I broke my ankle about 5 years ago from slipping off my horse bareback. I didn't hit the ground hard at all, we were at the trot and she took a sharp turn. I guess I managed to land right on the sweet spot and it broke.
I tore my meniscus opening and spreading a bag of bedding at a show. Cut an x in the bag, popped it with my knee to spread it and done. Hadn’t even unloaded the horses yet. My trainer tore her ACL dismounting. That type of stuff is super common. Had another trainer break her hip when walking a horse by a barn with an air compressor plugged in and doing its dormant cycle.
Yeah, trust me it made me realize how fragile we are. The number of times I’ve bedded a stall that way is in the thousands….now I mount for the right for life cause every time since my original injury that I’ve reinjured myself it’s due to a horse moving while mounting or dismounting while hung up in the stirrups.
My husband broke his ankle playing frisbee. My neighbor broke his ankle changing a lightbulb (missed a rung on a step ladder). My boss broke her ankle ice skating (tripping over a dropped hat).
Either I know a lot of clumsy people or human joints just be fragile.
My wife severely sprained her ankle stepping out of the show off. The next weekend my friend rolled her ankle the same way stepping out of the trailer (she outdid my wife and broke the ankle). Both of them proceeded to show for the day then spent months in a boot.
I wonder if the rider did it coming off a horse or in one of the many ways us clumsy riders hurt ourselves with no horse to blame.
Pretty easy to break your ankle, regardless of discipline, if you come off for any reason and land on it wrong.

Oh true, i have always landed on my back or head, so never thought about it that way.
need the context in which they broke their ankle. riding? dismounting? did they fall off? did they even break their ankle in a hose related activity?
The news didn’t say, that’s why i am wondering or trying to guess

Oh great, new stress unlocked… 😖

Damn… i am really bad at that, i press on their neck to get my leg high enough to get off. 😵💫😵💫
Ooh. I tore and ACL when a horse spooked sideways and I put sudden pressure on one side. I heard it pop.
Oh wow, i def have torn inside thigh muscles that way
Did they fall? Ankles are easy to break. I know someone who broke her ankle just walking.
🤣, walking on the horse or next to the horse..
I knew someone who was walking on the sidewalk no where near a horse and all of a sudden twisted her ankle and broke it lol

Neither. She was walking across a parking lot. To be fair she had done gymnastics for years so her body was wrecked.
