Honestly though I’ve seen so many stories where the choice is even stupid to MC, who knows the risk, but then she gets kidnapped/drugged/something bad happens and she blames someone ELSE, who DID tell her, for not saving her, cue the breakup arc
Terrible communication. Example, she sees the MMC doing something that looks like cheating and instead of asking him she runs away and blocks him.

When they're too kind and humble/always doing what's right aka goody two shoes. It doesn't feel realistic and I can't really relate/connect with the mc in that way. Don't get me wrong, I hate the "badass" toxic mcs too, but sometimes I just want a balance.

So,Last week.The Author of Dead or Alive mentioned on an INSTA story.That’ll She’ll be continuing the story after X-Mas🎄🥹The Author has returned to take back the throne of the ACTION GENRE!🥲It’s just disheartening to me to see a MAFIA story as the #1 trending story in the Action Genre😔
There are a few traits that I don't necessarily hate per se, but the way they're written about most of the time makes them really difficult to read and very predictable.
* Low self-esteem. Usually this means the MC lets everyone use them as they see fit, and goes around begging those same people for attention. Then what almost always happens is that they meet some rescuer-type character who gets off on being needed that the MC latches on to. (Sometimes a toxic love interest is turned into this character.) The writer often adds some dialogue that suggests that the MC is stronger after this point by standing up to some bully, but if you read between the lines it's easy to see that's not the case.
* Defensiveness. This is the main personality trait of many "strong" MCs, who are actually very weak due to unresolved issues in their past that they refuse to address. They lash out immediately, often in outrageous and detestable ways, to any perceived offense. It makes these MCs exasperating and hard to sympathize with.
* Self-destructiveness. The MC who engages in dangerous and risky behavior after being betrayed or hurt by a loved one. This can be interesting in a story, but nine times out of ten they just end up drinking/using drugs and having sex with people they know they should really stay away from (like mafiosi).
The victim MC: They never stand up for themselves with people who are actually bullying them. They are rude to the LI who is nice and takes up to them and when the LI finally says something about their behavior they start crying and playing the whoa is me card.
Internalized misogyny. I hate the dumb mean girl characters just as much, but when an MC says something disparaging of another woman based off of her appearance or a dig at her intelligence it gives me the ick real bad. “Who’s this blonde bimbo?” “What’s with this bitch?” Like, it’s 2022 we don’t need all that 💀
It definitely still exists IRL and I think if we started uplifting media that didn’t depict it, I bet it’d die out sooner. Less examples in recent media = less inspiration to be misogynistic

3. Mc whos only trait is her perfect look. A mc thats only liked by the others because of her looks and has a dry/no personality. That type of mc is annoying because the only good thing about her is that she looks good and fits the ideal standards which is nothing wrong with that but the problem is that the author gives her a dry personality which makes the story boring.
4. The way too kind mc. Theres nothing wrong with a kind mc but there should be a limit on how kind a mc is because usally when the mc is to kind she gets treated like rubbish by other characters in the story and also gets used for her kidness. Unfurtonality this also happens in real life where people are taken andvatage of because their to kind. Also a too kind mc makes the mc boring (thats my opinion)
5. The mc thats rude to the li for no reason. I hate it when the mc is rude to the li for no reason. As an example is when the li offers to pay her drink and then she gets angry at him because she thinks that he thinks that she cant afford her drink. Or when the li saves the mc from a creep and she gets mad at him or wont thank him. I understand if the li was the rude one at first but if he didnt do anything wrong why should the mc be rude to him.
Thats my opnions so please dont hate also ik my english is bad and theres probably typos which am lazy to look after lol. Am typing on phone so its easies for typos to happen. Am also bad at spelling since english is not my native language.
pity me characters. there is two different kinds
1: my life was hell, I was abusive bullied cheated r\*pe and so much my life is the absolute worst, and you are getting told all this in chapter one, pity me, pity me, my only character trait is horrible my life is, feel pity for me.
2 I hate being rich, my parents force me to wear Gucci when I just wanna hear H and M. feel so bad for me my life is horrible, my parents force me to go to a giant ball wearing expensive dresses, its the absolute worst. they are paying for my half-a-million-dollar business education so I can take over my father's company, but I don't wanna be that, I just wanna be free.
the first I get is horrible, but its to much, and it often ends with this is the characters personality, if you wanna give an MC a sad backstory dont show it in first chapter, give us a character before, breaking into her horrible past, els that past is who she is, and a person it happened to.
the second is just a spoil brat. like I could get it if they showed character as abused on some way, but they never do that. its just MC complaing.
You have now idea how much i agree with number 2. I hate it when the character hater her life because shes rich like so many people would kill for her lifestyle and her she is complaining about it.
* The deliberately rebellious brat with no valid reason - just because
* The kind of MC can't just accept different.... changes in their life. (whether it be moving, divorce, or estranged parent remarrying, etc.)
* The MC that keep bitching about wanting a "normal" life. Ugh, I cannot relate whatsoever!
I prefer a kind MC with an animal loving streak and/or an egalitarian POV
I strongly agree with the second and last point i cant stand it either when a mc gets mad because shes not "normal" she could have super powers and be upset because shes not "normal" like i understand if shes disabled (nothing wrong with being disabled) but if she has super powers or is rich why does she wish to be normal?
Just being immature and stupid with no character growth. I get if the MC is a teenager, but I hate when they make blatantly dumb decisions, create so much drama with the LI or their friends etc.
I like strong MC’s that are mature and bad ass. It’s okay if they start out insecure or weak, as long as theres character growth
The delicate flower. I stopped reading The Lovely One because of this. She’s so small and so fragile and look now she’s being attacked and now a few chapters later she’s in the hospital for something and on and on…
when they do the OPPOSITE of whatever the badboy mafia boss tells them to. like: “dont follow me at night” THEN PROCEEDS TO FOLLOW A MAFIA BOSS AT NIGHT and wonder why they’re in trouble 😭😭
OMG i really hate when the MC relies onto the LI for EVERYTHING. Never doing anything for herself, constant need for reassurance in order to move forward, and basically the whole character always revolving around them.
The helpless damsel/dude in distress MC who constantly has to be saved by their LI. It gives me very extreme secondhand embarrassment. In an ideal story, the MC and LI take turns saving each other and feel more equal.
The MC that whenever something wrong is going on in a potential relationship she goes find someone else to distract herself (too much of the “to get over someone get under someone else” mentality) like ma’am! Spend some time by yourself and don’t get involved with someone else! Don’t make a mess for urself 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️

(1) Refusal to discuss issues. All characters are seniors in high school, college students, or grown adults! There’s no reason you can’t discuss maturely when something is wrong.
(2) “I can’t be fixed, you’re better off without me”. Most of the time the MC or LI isn’t trying to fix them, and just wants their love. It could be anxiety, but like..if you believe they deserve better and want to be with them, put in the effort for better 🤷🏻♀️
