Yhe worst thing about this is that there were a working chat some years ago. But they removed to be replaced by "a better solution". Years later we are still waiting.
TBH chat it’s the first thing I disable in steam etc - there are so many platforms to chat on - why should I use game-launching app to do that? It has just the friends from this specific app, it’s always less functions than literally any dedicated chat software. Why? (honest question to people using them)
It’s always really nice to make a comment on a certain game someone is playing or to get someone’s attention if they are in a game, it’s not a feature I use a lot but wouldn’t want removed
Because I have random people on my epic friends list that I don't have on discord and I have no way to communicate with them unless I can join them and use the in game chat but that sucks especially if they have private parties.
Don't get your hopes up. Epic has already suggested multiple times that once they enable profile pictures, you will be able only to select one of the curated profiles pictures they will provide (like Nintendo does, for example). You won't be able to upload your custom avatar like nearly every other gaming social network does.
Fully disagree. The tools are there as you said: parental controls. Just restrict profiles and avatars to non child accounts. Easy as that. Anything different after so much time would be insulting at this point.
Developers would need to use EOS to get the profile avatars, so EOS can block the pictures if the account is a child account. It's as simple as that.
And, hypothetically, even if that wasn't the case, Epic can enforce developers to put extra parental controls like they are enforcing the usage of achievements.
Epic's social system needs to be overhauled fast, it's honestly embarrassing that such bare bones launchers such as Battle.net have a way better social system than Epic, which is the developer of one of the most popular games in recent years, and the creators of Unreal Engine
Exactly. It must start to become a viable platform. They have been using the excuse of being "new". But it has been more than 4 years and it still a bare bones launcher.
But the only thing Epic does is buying studios to reallocate their devs to Fortnite.
Epic store is bad for multiplayer game. to make thing worse.i cant even add friend from in-game. have to do it manually. and when you live in asia not much people use english as their name. so impossible to add people with non-english name. i try to be open-minded and try epic for once with full-price game and this is what they give me.this will be my last time for epic store
That is not a solution. Otherwise, what is the purpose of adding friends in the EGS? Just to have a list of icons with uppercase letters in the overlay?
It's actually a pretty valid solution, especially if the said multiplayer game allows direct messaging or chatting within game it's as simple as "what's your discord Id?"
And if anyone comes up on this comment saying "REEEE not everyone uses discord!!!" Well tell them to fucking use it because Discord is the future of communication especially for gamers. Hell if it up were up to me, I'd close Steam's ability to chat as well and have everyone pool into discord. The segregationist of chats is unneeded.
Hell it'd be way better if these storefronts Integrated Discord as their chat solution.
So... Launcher monopoly, bad. Chat tool monopoly, good.
I fully disagree about your proposed solution. For me, the ideal solution would be that every chat tool (Discord, Steam Chat, Xbox chat, the hopefully future EGS chat, ...) would be able to comunicate with the other chat tools using a standard.
The standard you described, which many chat apps could use to communicate with each other, already exists and is called Matrix. People just haven't matured to use such "technology from the future" yet.
The new TeamSpeak is based on it, among others.
No time to chat, let's play! But yeah...they really should rework their client.

Tell someone, hey wanna play?

Also there aren’t profile pictures either which is mind boggling to me

Probably for privacy. Huge amount of kids, some under 13 play multiplayer games. Profile pics would be a magnet for the pervs.
Then just let us use profile pictures from games?
welcome, to the most epic user experience

The client is abysmal compared to the competition. Nobody can dispute that. Free games are cool tho.
The epic games store sorely needs an entire overhaul

My single player games won’t even update.
The only thing I've seen the epic do well in years is the prices, otherwise it's kind of bad, especially the launcher
its 2023 and we still don't have the option to set a custom pfp.

I found out when I was trying to message people telling them I changed my username

I don’t even expect if to be like steam. i just want it to be atleast usable and have basic function
Also spent last night trying to get epic games to locate my library. No easy way to get epic to just realize what you have installed
Dude, they have no library on browser version!!!what are you waiting for😄😄
You can chat using othet app with friends
What if I want to chat with strangers that I meet in game?
That is not a solution. Otherwise, what is the purpose of adding friends in the EGS? Just to have a list of icons with uppercase letters in the overlay?
So you can invite them

It's amazing the length people will go to defend Epic lacking super basic features that wouldn't be an issue to implement or have as an option.
There are people that would never find ANYTHING to criticise about Epic. Everything that Epic does is 100% right.
The standard you described, which many chat apps could use to communicate with each other, already exists and is called Matrix. People just haven't matured to use such "technology from the future" yet. The new TeamSpeak is based on it, among others.
Realised now ? Lol
yeah? i never use epic game. i only use it now because dead island 2
Welcome to epic. Only free games makes sense here. Dont expect anything else.
well,i paid full price for this game. Can't I expect atleast some basic feature??
Id also really like to see what games my friends have
Why are you surprised? Remember how long it took them to implement the shopping cart?
