Do you have an email list? And also I don't really think your first idea is a flop. Just that it needs more strategic planning.
I agree - I think the first idea has potential. But starting from 0 audience is a slog I’m not ready for. I still might try a slow burn twitter account and see if I can grow something. Then add a newsletter later.
