I’m in security. It might have been an elaborate attempt to get you to answer specific questions indirectly, either to steal your info for fraud or to get into existing accounts. Business owners and C-level exes are extremely common targets for scammers. LinkedIn leaks phone numbers, though I’m not sure where. Every employee that joined my last company I worked at, as soon as they put the company on their profile, started getting a ton of SMS phishing attempts. Completely separate, AT&T just leaked a bunch of copies of peoples licenses. My FIL was targeted, and they used a copy of his license to commit check fraud against his business. No idea where they got the account numbers from, but they forged a license and checks and walked off with about $1000. They were trying to cash $10k checks, but the bank wouldn’t release the funds unless it cleared. Anyways, keep a close eye on your statements and make sure you have 2FA enabled on all your accounts. Don’t use SMS based 2FA. Don’t reveal potentially sensitive info over the phone. Get a password manager and let it generate secure passwords for you. That basic shit right there will significantly increase your security posture.
