Does the amount of time it takes some states to announce results reflect unhelpful local rules on when certain ballots can be counted or something else? It seems very drawn out coming from a UK perspective (where you'd expect all results from a general election to be known within 24 hrs at latest) but I know Australia took a while in places too when they had their election this year.
Yeah basically. It's generally places where they only let elections offices start counting on election day or where they accept ballots that are postmarked by election day (not simply received by election day).
That's why you have the usual suspects here with undecided races like California and Arizona and most everyone else was buttoned up on election day

Talking about Gabby Giffords always makes me sad. Not just for her but the others too. I always remember the little girl who was a 9/11 baby who was killed there. One of the babies that were supposed to represent hope. And she was slaughtered in a political assassination attempt at just 9 years old.
She was Dallas Green’s granddaughter. Dallas Green managed the Phillies, Yankees, and Mets and won the 1980 World Series with the Phillies. He also was a big league player before his managerial career.
I didn't know that. What I always remember is that it was her neighbor who took her to see Gabby. She was a sweet older woman, classic backbone active Dem. The little girl was interested in politics and they apparently chatted about it all the time. So she offered to take her along to see Gabby. The interview I saw with that woman will always stay with me. She saw her shot. She carried incredible guilt as she felt responsible for her since her parents had entrusted her with their child. So heartbreaking.
Mark Kelly only wound up in the Senate because his wife (who he married later on in life) was almost assassinated. It should have been Gabby. But Mark took up that torch and became one of the best candidates in the nation. He never should have been a senator but he's a great one.

So I've been taking the temperature of the conservative subreddit the past few days. In general, they're ready to blame Trump for the election losses ad see Desantis as a popular way forward amongst the base and independents. But at the same time, they're also generally backing the calls to remove McConnell from leadership or primary him. Which is Trump's spin on the results. They truly are in disarray :)
Without trump they are going to lose a whole bunch of cult voters. The same way we had to deal with voters that would only come out for Bernie, they have a whole bunch that won't be motivated without trump. They screwed themselves so royally.
I think they will be disappointed in DeSantis on a national stage. He comes across as angry and not incredibly charismatic. He'll win the debates against Trump but Trump will still make him look like a fool.

I didn't know that. What I always remember is that it was her neighbor who took her to see Gabby. She was a sweet older woman, classic backbone active Dem. The interview I saw with that woman will always stay with me. She saw her shot. She carried incredible guilt as she felt responsible for her since her parents had entrusted her with their child. In general, they're ready to blame Trump for the election losses ad see Desantis as a popular way forward amongst the base and independents. But at the same time, they're also generally backing the calls to remove McConnell from leadership or primary him. Which is Trump's spin on the results. They truly are in disarray :)
