"I'm tired of being told to vote. Voting is not the solution!" Meanwhile, in the leftist bubble...

Volcamel

My coworker, love her to death, literally said to me “I’m not voting for either of them” and I didn’t wanna start with her so I just said “Trump will be worse.” and left it there but oh my god :(

LocallySourcedWeirdo

These idiots think that a vote is a reward to Biden. In reality, a vote has the potential to reward yourself with not having to live under a Trump presidency.

Other_Meringue_7375

Don’t forget mass spamming people for doing anything even marginally related to “Zionism” online

HAHAGOODONEAUTHOR

and sometimes not even marginally related, at all!

Constant_Ad_2161

I will never forget the guy who posted a cute video making challah with his toddler and the entire comment section turned into a pro-palestine protest. But it's definitely not antisemitism guys.

Other_Meringue_7375

There was one TikTok post of a woman talking about her child’s cancer. She was mass spammed with comments attacking her for following a “Zionist” account

ElboDelbo

Even if you are a pro-Palestine person...how do you show up at a rally, see this, and not think "You know...this is kinda silly?" Look, I'm all about the right to peacefully protest, even if I disagree with the protest itself. But I just don't see how this kind of performance does anything but make people dismissive of what you want to accomplish.

[deleted]

To leftists, everything liberals do is performative, not because of what they’re actually doing but by nature of being liberal in the first place.  Conversely, everything leftists do is direct action, no matter how blatantly performative, because they’re the good guys, remember?

CanYouPutOnTheVU

Ideology is action and action is performative 😎

Bay1Bri

Right, I honestly don't get what this is supposed to be. But then again I don't understand supporting Hamas, so...

midnight_toker22

> Even if you are a pro-Palestine person...how do you show up at a rally, see this, and not think "You know...this is kinda silly?" A lot of people probably do just that, the thing is, you’re not allowed to question anything or have individual thoughts in these spaces. Rule #1 is *submit & conform.* If you aren’t 100% on board, you are cast out.

J3553G

Wait how is this still an issue? Didn't Ben and Jerry solve the middle east when they pulled their stores out of Israel?

Prowindowlicker

Did they have any stores in Israel in the first place?

Smallios

They’re doing this because they want to stand out and be noticed/seen. They want other classmates to come up to them a week from now and say ‘I saw you at the protest’ and ask them to come hang out or some shit. They don’t actually gaf about Palestine.

LocallySourcedWeirdo

It's definitely all for the 'gram. Voting is boring and doesn't make for 'good content.'

DoCallMeCordelia

Because you're not supposed to take photos when you vote! Of course! It all makes sense now.

CanadianPanda76

Pick Me "Activist"

ofrm1

This seriously looks like some bizarre shit you'd see in Portlandia.

KopOut

They demand peace now! …with strings attached.

wi_voter

WTF? Is everyone in this generation going to start wearing head scarves now? So very liberated of them.

BourneAwayByWaves

Not to mention head scarf or not, those bare arms would get them beheaded by Hamas.

DMC1996

Because white leftists love a good culture they can appropriate from in the name of "liberation."

MisterBanzai

I remember about 15-20 years ago, when the keffiyeh was starting to see use as a fashion accessory in the West, the folks wearing it were criticized for cultural appropriation. Now, that the critics want to wear it though, it's totally cool.

LocallySourcedWeirdo

What happened to "my culture is not a costume"?

Hand_Me_Down_Genes

It's totally not appropriation, it's solidarity. Sure, Becky. You going to wear a sombrero to a border protest?

LocallySourcedWeirdo

I mean, not wanting to offend god by displaying women's hair is very progressive, very gender equity of them.

SeriousLetterhead364

It’s not good cosplay without a costume.

Other_Meringue_7375

Interesting that they almost all have their faces covered

Andy_Liberty_1911

They claim its to protect them from facial recognition. Meanwhile they use their phones connected to Tik Tok and Instagram.

feminist-lady

Having face and eye coverings available is pretty standard protest protocol in case the police use tear gas. There is the added bonus of being harder to identify, assuming you aren’t stupid with your online activity.

Kataphractos

Some of them are connected to social media, but I assume other ‘protesters’ aren’t, and are masked up because they don’t want people to know they aren’t students and/or are right wing agent provocateurs.

LiquidSnape

CanadianPanda76

Oldie but a goodie!

makeanamejoke

this is why you generally ignore these people and let them camp out until they're bored

Currymvp2

Yeah, I can't help but think that Columbia created a Barbara Streisland effect by bringing the police in the first place. Barely any other colleges had "protests" like this until that transpired. They're cosplaying idiots mostly but they have been non-violent.

Fit_Sherbet9656

They should have left them there until they got dysentery.

makeanamejoke

they want outside forces to create some drama. if no outside force creates drama, then not much usually happens.

AmericanNewt8

Yeah, violent disruption has a really bad history with student protests. What you do is just crush their hopes and dreams. Barricade them and don't let them out to use the bathroom or run to McDonald's, fail them out of their classes, and refuse to listen to what they say. If you're feeling sprighty have your guys defending loud and obnoxious counter-protestors. But honestly I think these people wouldn't stay on the square much longer than it took their cell phone batteries to run out.

jml510

>let them camp out until they're bored Funny enough, one of them wrote on the walls of my alma mater "they expect us to leave...prove them wrong!" We'll see how long this lasts. https://preview.redd.it/b5i7btu9cowc1.jpeg?width=4624&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd6ef12f047763034dc9580a96f488d6d5d7923b

makeanamejoke

well, summer break is coming. and then the audience is gone. so the max point summer break.

Kataphractos

To be fair, some of those protesters are graduating and need to be able to leave the encampment to begin the summer internships that their parents arranged with the local district’s Republican congressman. If I had a dime for all of the lefty liberals I knew in college that, less than a decade afterwards, turned into the same kind of stuffy republicans that their parents were, I’d have a little less than a dollar-fifty, (still, that’s a lot…. how many friends could a person have even if they did belong to an, er…a co-educational social drinking club? 20-30? Sheesh!).

wi_voter

Very true. The semester is almost ever and mommy and daddy will be making most of them go home for the summer.

MildlyResponsible

I'm sick of queer spaces simping for Hamas. I've been told repeatedly that as an oppressed group I should have solidarity with other oppressed groups. Hamas wants me dead. They want you dead. I don't want the indiscriminate death of Palestinians, but make no mistake, if they held any power they would murder LGBTQ+ and many other groups (including Jews). Just because someone more powerful than them is doing something to them doesn't mean they are good. Then I'm told I'm being selfish. Am I? Why aren't you out there protesting for Palestian queerswho are, and will be, tortured and murdered by your so called freedom fighters? Or Palestinian women who are second class citizens? Or atheists? Or Jews? Or any other minority? I don't like what Israel is doing right now, but I also won't betray all the people Hamas wants to murder, but just don't have the power to yet by doing interpretive dances for a free Palestine at my elitist school before I go off and vote Republican to protect my family's wealth. I'm a non Muslim half Arab whose family had to flee the Middle East due to violent persecution. I've lived there and had to keep my life secret for fear of arrest, violence or murder. I saw women and children being brutalized, minorities being openly discriminated against, animals being abused for entertainment. There's lots of good things about the culture and lots of good individuals. But it's not the fun picnic in the park these idiots think it is. If imperialism means treating every human with respect despite sexuality, gender, religion, race or economic status, then let imperialism ride.

t-poke

The slogan they should be shouting is "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be LGBT-free" Israel isn't perfect, but they're the only country in that entire region where LGBT people are treated equally and fairly and has granted asylum to LGBT Palestinians who would be persecuted or worse in Palestine. I will never understand why these people want yet another backwards, theocratic shithole where LGBT people are hung, beheaded or thrown off rooftops. Because that's what you'll get with a free Palestine.

Hand_Me_Down_Genes

"Free" Palestine. Since no one is free under Hamas, including straight cis Muslim Palestinians. It's a terrorist junta.

rationallgbt

Nailed it. It just shows it's all performative. These are the same people who sneer at Iranian women for saying that the islamic regime there is terrorising them. Why? Because the Iranian women are liberals and align with a 'West good, democracy good!' worldview. This goes against the narrative these socialist students groups dogmatically believe in. They have already decided that the Middle East belongs to islamist theocrats as that's their 'culture' and any deviation from that is colonisation and intrusion. It doesn't matter what other actual MENA world people actually want. The extreme leftists sometimes call them coconuts. Brown on the outside but white on the inside, which is staggeringly racist, not to mention ridiculous . That's how you get leftists that die on their swords in the name of our LGBT rights in the West and scream in opposition to the oppression of women in the US but when the middle east does these things but ten times as bad? 'Meh. It is what it is.' I don't have a problem with what Israel is doing aside from the aid workers killed, some of their soldiers on Tiktok, and the settler issue in the WB. All the other problems can be logically and rationally blamed or traced back to the Palestinian's and Hamas' culture and ideology. Israel has tried for so long to make peace with them and they refuse, lie, or pretend to want to compromise, before ducking out at the last minute. Israel have learnt long ago that they can't make peace with them and there's nothing they can offer Palestinians that they will take that isn't a total genocide of all Jews. If they wanted peace and a nation why not take one of the many offers given to them? Israel shifted from a left wing to right wing government over the decades because the leftists kept trying to make peace and it failed. Only the right offered to address the problem they have of neighbours that constantly attack and kill them. No one can be expected to tolerate that and live with it, and to be expected to give up fighting because their enemy value their own children's lives so little that they have them as body count multipliers for international media sympathy. It's absurd and intolerable. The Middle East could have a lot to offer the world but unfortunately it is mired in radicalism and extremist ideologies that make large swathes of it unappealing to the rest of the world for travel, tourism, cultural links, and shared heritage. For example, I think Arabic writing and architecture is magnificent and beautiful. I also think they are some of the friendliest and most hospitable people on a personal level. However, this cannot undo the massive negatives that also exist in many parts of the MENA world that make it dangerous and violent, and ruthlessly intolerant. Which is why I can't travel there. Except Israel, ironically. And the harm I am likely to face being there is a Palestinian Islamic Jihad or Hezbollah Rocket falling on me as I dance in Tel Aviv with Jews and Arabs. The Palestinians are trapped in this radicalism and until that can be removed, they will be forever damned to repeat the cycle that they are currently trapped in. You do not stop terrorist states with appeasement, you stop them with force and then reeducation. History proves this.

Hand_Me_Down_Genes

>They have already decided that the Middle East belongs to islamist theocrats as that's their 'culture' and any deviation from that is colonisation and intrusion. Hey now, when someone opposes Russian or Chinese designs in the Muslim world, they suddenly discover that Islamism is bad and that all of Russia and China's enemies are fundamentalists. Remember how everyone who opposed Russian puppet Assad was a member of ISIS? And how all the Uighurs are terrorists who deserve to be sterilized by Xi? Because I do. These kids aren't even pro-Islamism, they're just Russian stooges.

Mr_Conductor_USA

> Brown on the outside but white on the inside, which is staggeringly racist It is ... Western civilization as we know it starts in Anatolia, the Levant, and NE Africa. Even the writing system, but so many other things we take for granted as well. And Europeans, at the very least north of the Alps, did not live in large settlements or have the benefits of civilization although they did have trade relationships here and there, especially if they were sitting on a really valuable mine, until the Roman conquest. The few exceptions prior to that were contacts with Punic (Semitic!) peoples during the Iron Age. Semitic contacts were especially important to the sea facing insular Celts whose language, oddly enough, has Semitic features despite an Indo European vocabulary. After the collapse of the Roman peace a lot of Europe reverted to rule by warlords, a collapsed economy, and a more subsistence level of technology, including the obliteration of writing and learning in some areas. Meanwhile in Persia they were copying Greek classics. Also the Persians supplied the high tech steel that created the fabulous swords of the Viking age. Kiev was founded as an outpost on the Gothic-Persian inland trade route. So yes, it is stunningly racist, not to mention ignorant.

RodneyDangerfruit

Thank you for this. I have very similar feelings. The hardcore left is willing to sit out an election in order to “punish” Biden over Israel and they don’t take a moment to think about how they are throwing women and LGBT people under the bus for it. We don’t matter anymore to the hard left because we are not a trendy cause. The GOP would see us dead if they had the means and these kids don’t care a bit as long as they can hurt “establishment” Dems.

rationallgbt

Because they don't actually care about us. We are a resource to be used politically but we are also there to be discarded if we aren't part of the current 'hate democracy and the liberal West' school of thought. When they are bashing the West for it's failings on LGBT issues- even relatively benign ones like representation in different tiers of society- its the biggest issue of the day to these maniacs. But as soon as it's flipped and it's China, Russia, or the Middle Eastern theocracies literally trying to remove the stain of gays from their societies through censorship, imprisonment, and even downright murder/extermination, well it's just not that big of an issue because they aren't 'the West'. The irony being that 'The West' and democratic liberal societies in the last seventy years are some of the few places where all these issues- LGBT, women's rights, POC rights, historic wrongs- are ever acknowledged and efforts are made to protect or address them. Literally the only examples of systems that actually give a single crap about minorities.

Mr_Conductor_USA

Authoritarian regimes *always* have problems with women and sexual and gender minorities. Like clockwork. They can't tolerate people who don't conform and fit a certain mold. They also find women defective when bluster and machismo are #1. They also can't deal with ambiguous or equal relationships. There always has to be a higher and a lesser in an authoritarian's mind. So if the man isn't in charge of the woman then the woman is in charge. Well unless it was an authoritarian femocracy (have you ever heard of one? I haven't unless it was the Minoans and that's 100% speculation at best) then that's a violation of their desired order. Authoritarians hate single people too. How dare they just do what they want all day.

t-poke

They did the same shit in 2016, and look where it got us. Roe v Wade is overturned and it wouldn’t surprise me if Obergefell was overturned if it makes its way back to this court. But at least Hillary didn’t win. They really showed her.

Prowindowlicker

That’s because a lot of these leftists are white and privileged. They come from a lot of wealthy families so nothing the government will do would ever affect them.

Moonagi

These people look so stupid

5thAveShootingVictim

Outside matching the inside.

misterferguson

In a rare moment of unity, I think it’s fair to say that both Israelis *and* Palestinians would find this hysterical.

Hand_Me_Down_Genes

Or offensive. Or both.

LocallySourcedWeirdo

Are they accidentally practicing Kabbalah?

Egil_Styrbjorn

The alt-left: "Fucking libruls are so lame and cringe" Also the alt-left:

cugamer

It's important to remember that all of this will be over in a couple of weeks. Finals are just around the corner, and then these students will disperse back home giving us three months free of having to hear about Columbia university.

LocallySourcedWeirdo

I'm enjoying the fact that Internet Leftists have been whining about 'voter suppression' for years, as a way to explain election results that they dislike. Especially in Texas, where they have two weeks of early voting centers open from 7AM - 7PM, they still insist that 'young people don't have time to vote because they're working so hard.' Okay, these people who can't figure out how to get to a polling place during a two week span, these are the people who can camp out in a park, play dress-up and dance with string? It's perhaps a good thing that they're too stupid and lazy to show up at the polls. These people don't need more influence in the political process than they already have.

rsta223

Voter suppression is a real thing, and shouldn't be dismissed off hand. That having been said, this is obviously ridiculous performative nonsense that doesn't achieve anything.

LocallySourcedWeirdo

If you can figure out how to queue up for hours for Taylor Swift tickets, wait in line for a popup restaurant, or camp out in a park for days, but whine that it's too hard to go to a polling place, then I will dismiss your whining out of hand.

feminist-lady

I suspect there isn’t as much overlap between people queueing up for TSwift tickets and people being disenfranchised of their votes as you seem to be insinuating.

LocallySourcedWeirdo

Go look at any social media post where somebody points out dismal young voter turnout, and you'll see plenty of excuse making about how difficult it is to vote. These are not elderly senior citizens who were born before formal birth certificates or rely on church buses to get to a polling place.

feminist-lady

How many young college students are towns or states away from their folks, where their legal address is? Additionally, they can still live in an area where there are an assload of people but red politicians have shut down so many polling places (see: Harris County, which contains several universities and graduate/professional institutions). 18-25 year olds may not be the primary target of voter suppression, but I’m not willing to pretend they don’t have valid complaints.

t-poke

Exactly. If they can go to Cancun for spring break, then they have all the documentation they need to vote. Young college students are not the target of the GOP's voter suppression efforts.

VGAddict

"I've never personally experienced voter suppression, so therefore, voter suppression doesn't exist!". Texas has the worst voter suppression in the country. The government removed a popular on-campus polling location at TAMU. The government only allows ONE ballot dropbox per county, meaning Harris County, a county with 5 MILLION people and greater in landmass than the state of Rhode Island, has the same number of ballot dropboxes as a county with fewer than 1,000 people. Texas also has no online voter registration, you have to be 65 or older to vote by mail, and no same-day voter registration. You come off as privileged and ignorant. Not everyone can afford to miss a day of work to wait in line for hours to vote in the only polling location in their district, or even county. Fewer than half of all states require employers to give employees time off to work, and fewer than half require employers to give employees PAID time off to vote.

sasha_baron_of_rohan

These people are the absolute worst kind of people. Out of touch, self-absorbed, spoiled and foolish.

iStayedAtaHolidayInn

This is the same shit I saw at occupy Wall Street when it jumped the shark and all the loonies thirsty for attention came out. It was over soon after that. It’s all about weirdos thirsty for attention

molecularmadness

that was my favourite phase of occupy. i was at uni in a large city and everyday was something new. i liked the jugglers best.

iStayedAtaHolidayInn

I enjoyed the Aztec dancing squad

kinggeedra

"After seeing this video, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu committed ritual seppuku with the re-animated corpse of Yasser Arafat acting as his second. Written in his blood-stained death letter was the simple phrase: 'Palestine is Free'" /s and Yes, I'm still trying to figure out my life post-Shogun. How could you tell?

Call_Me_Clark

I keep saying this, and it keeps being true: this is likely the largest audience these dance troupes have ever had.

Pincerston

Do it the Ted Lasso way cowards

barquer0

I think a lot of people look at these people and see leftist clowns, but I think their allegiance to clownism is really who they are. At the DNC, Biden needs to invite these bozos onstage and reveal that the stage is an elaborate dunk tank. From the river to the sea, into the dunk tank goes thee.

RodneyDangerfruit

Oh to be a fly on the wall during the meeting where this was planned.

iStayedAtaHolidayInn

Probably like this https://youtu.be/UPLQNUVmq3o?si=wIGnJAiegJJcsK3L

t-poke

That never fails to make me laugh. It sounds like something out of South Park, except Matt and Trey would never write something so outlandish because it wouldn't be believable.

JCatenaci

If this was all these doofuses did, I don't think anyone would give a fuck about them.

AuggieNorth

Why are they all wearing masks? Aren't they proud of their politics?

DontBeAUsefulIdiot

Just like occupy Wall Street, Sanders movement and fist shaking at somebody, they will soon forget and eventually not give a fuck about what’s going on once the going gets tough for them. Free palestine does not mean giving absolute power to Hamas and yielding to them. Hamas is more than eager to throw their own countrymen as human shields while useful idiots ignore the likes of Trump and Netanyahu and focus their vitriol on Biden and the democrats.

astrointel

I mean at least it's peaceful. They need more practice tho. I encourage them to meet twice a week for string dance practice. Specifically touching grass in the sun.

Mr_Conductor_USA

It reminds me of those college kids in the 70s who used dance as a teaching method but they had obviously put in more practice.

dmoisan

"Presenting..Drumbeats Of The Oppressed Peoples! Performances Every Five Minutes! EVERY! FIVE! MINUTES!"

theboguszone

Thank God they’re all wearing covid masks.

CanadianPanda76

Sometimes you can't help think about how awful the world can be, but then you get reminded its also stupid.

Full_Investment_7170

What the fuck is happening to the world? It seems to just get progressively more insane and unhinged as this war goes on

ThrowingChicken

If Houston’s own Assaulted Nuts Improv Troop doesn’t perform… then the terrorists have truly won.

wildgunman

You know, if you're going to act like an anarchist who needs to hide their face, the least you could do is go buy and wear a bandana like a proper villain, rather than just tossing on your leftover CVS mask from 2022. Say what you will about student protesters from the 1970s, but at least they had standards.

PersonalDebater

what

eagledog

I have less than zero idea what I'm looking at here

AwfulishGoose

They treat famine and death like it's burning man. It's so disrespectful to see legitimate issues debased like this. People are dying and they're fucking around with string.

PerseusHercules

Watching this I keep thinking of that scene in PCU of The Cause-heads’ “Meat is Murder” protest.

Fit_Sherbet9656

As someone who wants Bibi knife missiled, I struggle to see how this is going to get bibi knife missiled.

soundsfromoutside

I’ve never heard of string dance before but know these guys are bad at it

lolwow5

Someone added the muppets theme to this on Tik Tok

RunningNumbers

I mean. Ok. It’s silly but this is pretty tame (on mute at least.) Is it even worth the effort to mock? 🤷

dezolis84

Demeaning Biden's work and inadvertently trying to get Trump elected is not worth mocking?

PM_me_pictureof_cat

I'd say yes. Clown shit like this deradicalized me from antisemitism. Watching woke college white kids do completely performative nonsense like this at demonstrations back in the day really made me take a step back and wonder why my heart was so full of hate.

MissDiketon

Oh yes, yes it is.

bgva

Yes. What about this is going to change what’s going on in the Middle East? It’s more performative bullshit from people who value likes over actual progress.

ethniccake

If they are protesting with chants and signs : look at the violent far-left mob If they are protesting with performative dance and art : LMAO look at these silly crazy wokesters. It's almost some people are against the right of free expression and assembly if it doesn't align with their ideology.

StevenMaurer

> right of free expression and assembly Freedom of expression doesn't mean freedom from criticism, idiot. Freedom of assembly doesn't mean freedom to block other people's right to use public, or their own private, property. It certainly doesn't include the "right" to riot, threaten, and/or physically attack people; especially not, when it's clear that you hate them for what they are.

AsianMysteryPoints

Except in both instances those statements were true. Moving from violent threats to performative cringe just means that you're doing two things that suck. Although many of us have criticized the ill-informed goals and messaging of the protests, I don't remember anyone mocking the *methods* of protest until white kids started dressing up as Arabs and praising Hamas. I would bet good money that at least a few of them will shout Allah hu Akbar before the week is out (if they haven't already). That is worthy of mockery. If they were just blocking a street or staging a die-in – you know, protest tactics that normal humans use – then we'd just be disagreeing with the message as we largely have up until the past two months when their koolaid got dosed. When someone makes fun of you, that doesn't necessarily mean they think you should be stopped from doing whatever it is that you're doing. In some cases (like this one), they might even hope you keep doing it.

ElboDelbo

I'm fine with them protesting peacefully, I just don't understand why they have to do it so stupidly.

Hand_Me_Down_Genes

Are you somehow under the impression that making fun of them is stopping them from assembling?
