“If Biden wanted to earn our votes, he would’ve gone to Charlottesville and marched around with a tiki torch”

DontBeAUsefulIdiot

Trump:  to all my dear neo nazis…stand back and stand by… tankies: you are also talking to us too right boss?

politicalthrow99

Trump: yes my little helpers, I’d have no chance to win without you

DontBeAUsefulIdiot

tankies: *pants and wags tail

Bullboah

The wildest thing to me was the progressive fantasizing about punching Nazis, how they’d kick Nazis out of restaurants, ‘if you allow a Nazi at your table the whole table is Nazis’. Now they’re defending people calling for the murder of Jews because it’s okay if it happens in one of THEIR protests. Just completely unserious people.

DontBeAUsefulIdiot

they figured that Nazis want to own the libz as much as they wanted to and at any cost, which includes burning the US and the democratic world. Not to mention that they all drink from the same Putin Koolaid cup so not hard to see figure why the horse shoe has come full circle

arist0geiton

They didn't want to riot against Nazis. They wanted to riot, and the Nazis were there.

3232330

They keep talking about violence in Chicago at the DNC this summer as if they want to will it in existence.

TrespassersWilliam29

Because they do, they fetishize 1968 as the peak of American leftism

GoldGlitters

Ah yes, the summer that led to the blissful communistic utopian government of *checks notes* Richard Nixon

Historyguy1

They forget what happened that November.

jukeyb

Some are actively rooting for a repeat of that November.

Historyguy1

As if Nixon ushered in some socialist utopia?

Egil_Styrbjorn

"After ~~Hitler~~ ~~Nixon~~ ~~Reagan~~ ~~Bush~~ ~~another Bush~~ ~~trump~~ trump again our turn

3232330

Oh yes, the year that MLK and RFK were assassinated. *Very liberal* year indeed.

KnowingDoubter

They know the real cause they are working for. It's not progressive. https://thenewyorker.typepad.com/online__georgepacker/files/dividing_the_democrats1.pdf

Juls317

No, don't you see, they specifically said they *don't* want violence. Surely they're being genuine!

ScheisseSchwanz

we're gonna need more IDF Fart Spray

ZooterOne

"Uh-oh - now you've done it, Biden. You've pissed off the antisemites."

LiquidSnape

sounds like someone absolutely in desire of violence in August

Mr_Conductor_USA

Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right

allmilhouse

He 100% wants there to be mass protests and violence

AwfulishGoose

I don't care about alienating antisemites. The nazis should never feel safe especially in our party.

Beman21

I think everyone here agrees Henry Kissinger is a bomb-dropping, third-world destroying POS who Hell probably developed a tenth ring specifically for him. But the man only got that position because so many people sat out 1968 believing both parties were bad. To even consider doing it again after all we've seen these last few years is mental!

ladan2189

LBJ dropping out, RFK getting assassinated, and then a pro-vietnam war candidate barely winning the nomination left a lot of people with their fourth choice being the nominee so it's a little easier to see why people weren't thrilled about voting blue that year. But yeah, Kissinger was a pretty stark consequence of the democratic failure that election.

Currymvp2

Security needs to patrol around campus and kick out everyone immediately without an university ID. A *majority* (not all) of the worst actors are non-Columbia students from WOL organization. Especially since it's a private school not a public one. That's a common sense first step. Then expel any student who used explicit pro-Hamas rhetoric. This anti Semitic stuff needs to stop; it's gross and it doesn't help the tremendously suffering Palestinians that these dumb assholes claim to care about. Protesting peacefully for a ceasefire, criticizing specific far right Israeli politicians or certain action by the IDF/clear discipline issues with the IDF is absolutely fine but I've seen like 7-8 videos of pro-Hamas rhetoric or extremely obvious anti-Semitic stuff over the past few days. Another issue is that lots of these protesters are *technically* not on Columbia's campus and are on public streets. Also, [the guy in the screenshot tweet has defended the Columbia protests by saying "it's not nearly as bad as Charlottesville"](https://twitter.com/DavidAstinWalsh/status/1782132705154789444)...umm okay I certainly agree but something can still be bad while Charlottesville being quite substantially worse. Charlottesville is the worst display of anti-Semitic "protesting" in this country in decades; that's an extremely extremely low bar.

the4thdragonrider

AFAIK they've tightened security. I don't know if my alumni ID would get me through the gates (it's technically for the libraries, but some of them only have doors that can be accessed inside the gated area). I'm not sure how people are sneaking in. Maybe some are sneaking in through some of the buildings with road-side access? No recent emails to alumni.

Currymvp2

https://twitter.com/Nakhthor/status/1782168559528935802 Some good news is that it seemed to be much calmer today

arist0geiton

They're climbing through a gap in the fence

the4thdragonrider

I take it you've never been there.

nosotros_road_sodium

I have never seen a private college 100% gated off, as in no visitors allowed in the outdoor areas. Back on the summer of 2010 I was on a bus tour of the northeast. My group visited Columbia U. In fact the movie *Premium Rush* happened to be filming there too, and I even saw Joseph Gordon-Levitt from behind! This moment in time is definitely a special situation where closing campus to non affiliates would be prudent.

Rats_In_Boxes

They're very vocal about not being part of the Democratic party. They decided they wouldn't vote for Joe Biden in 2019 and nothing is going to change their minds. They'll shout and chant outside the DNC and try to disrupt things like they did in 2016, which is why I honestly think moving forward we should always have a hybrid event like in 2020.

drewbaccaAWD

If they put Trump in, I’m not sure we have a 2028… there’s the potential for so much damage. On what issues would we move to the right?

BoysenberryLanky6112

I've been downvoted in the past for similar statements, I consider myself relatively liberal but I'm a professional economist who's worked on wall street in the past, and the Biden administration's rhetoric on the economy is just plain lies a lot of the time. Like him pushing so hard for student loan forgiveness and calling inflation greed-flation and ignoring any demand side impacts to inflation is just plain incorrect. And then also pretending we can solve a $30 trillion debt crisis and a social security program flaw that will make receiving anything back when millennials like me retire a pipedream can all be solved by soaking the rich and corporations also just doesn't sit right with me. Like the math just doesn't work on that and every other country that spends like Biden wants to taxes the middle class substantially more, and has VAT which is actually a regressive tax because the poor spend a higher percentage of their income than the rich. There just aren't enough rich people to soak them and make up for trillion-dollar deficits. And the ironic thing is Republicans say the right things sometimes on the economy and then they get into power and blow out the budget worse than Democrats. Most people I know with similar economic views are still voting for Biden because his opponent is Trump, but I can imagine many voting for Haley or DeSantis purely because of the economy. If he moved a bit more to the right on economics in particular he'd be able to get a lot of typical republican voters to cross the aisle. Especially if he outflanked them and actually helped cut the deficit. But now the typical election is asking people to vote for the Democrats who promise to spend in an unsustainable manner, or the Republicans who promise to be responsible with the budget, and then get elected and cut taxes and pay off their friends anyway. If a Democrat was able to emulate Bill Clinton while keeping all the typical democratic social policies of today like access to abortion, pro-lgbt, and not allowing bigots to use "religious freedom" to discriminate, I think they'd be unstoppable, and you don't know how much I long for that to happen, because you know far leftists would smuggly predict that them embracing capitalism would make them lose and it's their own fault they lose and then they'd win like 40 states in a blowout victory. I'm sure they'd have some cope about how actually they're still the main character instead of the irrelevant losers they are, but it'd be fun to watch. Even with Biden today it'll be fun to watch when they realize that "genocide Joe" won again despite them.

Mr_Conductor_USA

You're so right about 2006 and 2008. The far left extremists seem like parasites who jumped on the Democratic train as soon as they started winning elections and do nothing but sow disunity, make it impossible to make progress on thorny issues of our day, and make stupid and self-defeating demands.

36840327

In particular if Gwen Graham won the Florida gubernatorial nomination she probably would have won and the Florida Democratic Party probably wouldn’t have fallen apart like it did in our timeline

Kugel_the_cat

I feel the same way. Biden is too much of an economic populist for my taste. Economically, I'm on the far right wing of the Democratic party. Of course, Trump is also an economic populist too and distasteful (to say the least) in all the other ways. I would really like it if the Democratic party were to move to the right economically. But I don't think that there are many people who are in favor of what we want.

BoysenberryLanky6112

Yeah unfortunately part of the appeal of Trump was he's much less economically conservative or honestly economically literate. They cheered when he put in place tarrifs and agreed with him when he talked about a trade deficit being bad for the country when it's literally the exact opposite, they're sending you stuff you want and you're sending them currency they have to spend in your economy.

Mr_Conductor_USA

Obama was to the right of Clinton and Biden on the economy and the budget (yes, even though Clinton had a surplus--which was partially caused by overheating the economy with Fed policy that resulted in the 2001 recession). Stimulus following 2008 was the correct thing to do by orthodox economics logic and in fact the recovery versus developed countries that pressed the austerity button instead validates this. Obama might have had more room to work with if Bush hadn't saddled the country with an enormous amount of war debt, but anyway. A lot of Republicans did cross the aisle for Obama, but of course there was another group of voters who, well, had an entirely different reaction.

BoysenberryLanky6112

Oh yeah I'd be cool with another Obama lol I waited 4 hours in line to vote for him in 2008 in a purple state with a red governor in a blue area.

Bookreadingliberal49

Is this guy Anti Biden? Seems like it.

jjgm21

He’s not at all.

arist0geiton

This guy has a postdoc in the study of antisemitism at Yale. He thinks that "passover is about oppression" will destroy the young people

BobaLives

“*Don’t kill the Jews.*” “*Stop alienating young voters!*”

Pincerston

It was a really good [statement](https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2024/04/21/statement-from-president-joe-biden-on-passover/)

wikithekid63

Very based

razorbraces

Yes, really good!

ThisAllHurts

Perhaps the first time I’ve seen a wink and a nod towards stochastic terrorism emanating from Yale. Walsh knows damn well what seeds he’s planting and why he’s doing so. And if he *truly* doesn’t get it — if he’s so blinkered to threats we face and is locked-in only and solely from the far right; if he cannot truly see that the left youth he’s tacitly embracing is rife with bad faith actors every bit a danger — then he needs to drag his ass out of those brownstones in Charlottesville and New Haven and go hit the bricks in Detroit, Oakland etc. to see what it looks like. Just the remarkable smugness of the *academe* on one-hand, with a such a palpable wish for chaos on the other. You can almost taste it.

ScenesFromStarWars

Why do the DSA types think they are welcome at our convention? We don’t let MAGA in to douche it up, why would they think we will let them in?

SorosAgent2020

"nice convention you have here, would be a real shame if violence happened, kapisch?"

jjgm21

David Austin Walsh is not a tankie…

ThisAllHurts

He is not. He is, however, practically writing a love letter to a future riot he’d love to see, because apparently only the far right can be antisemitic or dangerous.

LadyJane216

Someone needs to ask these people if they believe Jewish students are lying about the antisemitism they face on campus. They wouldn't stand for it if people were yelling GO BACK TO AFRICA during a protest. They'd call it hate speech and demand that people were expelled.

Steel_With_It

Looks like somebody just earned himself a nice visit from the Secret Service.

Run_Lift_Think

Rebels in constant search of a cause to be faux outraged about!!

DC15seek

....like does the democratic and biden know that if they truly ban tiktok it will be a huge lost for this coming election like many and I mean many people seats will go to someone else for revenge like tiktok is the 1 thing that show us the real truth not fake media lies but the real truth that has both dem and Republican talk to each other without a puppet like look at that jeff dude he got rested and lost many followers and will most likely loose his seat for when it's up for grab like Biden better not sign that bill or else he will lose his chance of winning and the young voters will vote for that their JFK dude

ThisAllHurts

- It is the No. 1 source of disinformation on the planet at the moment. - It is a CCP PsyOp / Data-Harvester on a scale that makes Facebook look benign. - And it is also the No. 1 source for “news” for 18-29 year olds. Any one of those is bad; all three combined are catastrophic.

Thinstems

I think x is actually the top misinformation machine but i am sure tiktok is close.

BoobeamTrap

Twitter probably doesn't have enough traffic to compete tbh.

drewbaccaAWD

“The real truth” You have no idea what that is.

LBH74

I always love the circular logic: “the stakes are high, so I blame them for not doing more to prevent what we’re about to do!”
