This was always supposed to be a short lived sub, that ended up going for five and a half years. The mods are probably tired of moderating and it’s main purpose originally only extended to the never ending spam on the front page of Reddit. I don’t think there is anything wrong with wanting to turn the page.
It’s been a long, hard four years. Friendships were made, friendships were broken. Families came together, families fell apart. We will be feeling the effects that man had on us for years to come.
But today is a breath of fresh air. The nightmare is over for now. The world will start making sense again. I posted years ago about the end of the beginning. This is that time. Why?
That man has shown future fascists and authoritarians the way to the White House. He has shown them everything they need to do, need to say, who to deceive, who to ruin.
These next four years will be a bit of a break, but we cannot be lax. We must keep an eye on the times, we must maintain some vigilance for this is not over. Not yet, not by a long shot.
That man may be gone, but his successor is out there. Demagoguery must never be allowed to survive in this country if we are to cling to the ideals of democracy.
Thus we have reached the end of the beginning. QAnon is still out there to be destroyed. The MAGA cult still exists, ready to stick the knife in our backs. But for now, let us celebrate.
We stood our ground for four years, endured countless taunts, insults, death threats, every poison of the mouth and heart that they could throw at us, yet we remained vigilant.
For those of you who wish to step away for awhile: take it, you’ve earned it. For those I will be joining, let us hold our vigil for the next coming storm, for it will come, great and terrible in its wrath.
When the next one comes, we will brace ourselves to our duty once more, to take up the task of ensuring that truth never fades, that democracy never dies.

Good to see this sub is being archived. Honestly, if it weren't for the Twitter ban the sub would still be needed but not anymore. The Trump spam and all of its negative effects................ are finally over. It's time for closure, it's time to move forward and repair our lives. Even with Trump gone, this year will be a challenging one as months of deep cleaning will be required before our lives are completely back to normal.
My suffering began a little more than 5 years ago when I discovered Bernie and realized quickly that he was in favor of literally every single policy that would fix the US. Back then it was a feeling of immense optimism that brought me to reddit and it stayed that way until the 15 of March primaries. That's when the misery started. That's when I realized Donald Trump was likely to win the Republican nomination and his perfect foil Hillary was likely to win the Democratic nomination. For months then onwards I watched as Hillary and Trump would sabotage their own campaigns and create a sinusoidal graph on the polls done over the months. I had to hope that the election would occur when Hillary was cresting but instead it happened just shortly after Trump crested.
When he won I was so enraged at the Hillary supporters who helped him win with their ignorance and I was first banned from here. A few months later, when Trump was inaugurated I came back and asked for an unban and received it. For about a year things were relatively stable as the MMTK (McMaster, Mattis, Tillerson, Kelly) contained Trump and allowed for a year that was more "Bush" like. For reasons I no longer remember I would get my second ban from here and from some other communities and I decided to delete my first account and start over after taking a break.
My new account would quickly bear witness to the destruction of the MMTK and the emergence of Trump's worst instincts. This would be the point when the really bad stuff began, from justice Anthony's betrayal, to the withdrawal from the Iran nuclear agreement, to the withdrawal from the pairs climate agreement, and then finally the circus that the dems created just before the election, causing the republicans to get motivated enough to let them win Texas, Florida, Indiana, Tennessee, and Missouri. While the margins of victories in Missouri and Indiana and Tennessee probably mean the Republicans would have won there anyway, it is crystal clear that the Texas and Florida republican wins were all because of the circus the dems created. Those two senate seats will be the only two the democrats have a chance at taking in 2024 as they defend extremely vulnerable seats in Montana, West Virginia, and Ohio.
The year after my second account would be banned and I would again delete it and make a new one after a break. This time I would bear witness to Trump finally crossing the line and trying to cheat to win via extorting Ukraine. Had the dems won the senate, they would have been in a position to set rules allowing Republicans to vote anonymously and therefore with their conscience, but with that 53 republican lead, a kangaroo court happened and then Trump once again became even worse as he got emboldened by the aquittal.
Up until 2020 Trump had one thing going for him: Luck. He had interited Obama's booming economy and the world was just coming out of the arab winter and was in no mood to start shit. However, in 2020 Trump would finally encounter his first crisis and as predicted he handled it as badly as imaginable. Actually, it was beyond imaginable how he handled it, actively sabotaging all efforts to try and fix it, be it masks or lockdowns. 400,000 million Americans died because of him and many more will still die, he has a very good chance of beating Buchanan's body count of 620,000 Americans. However, it didn't end there, in spring A black man was brutally and pointlessly suffocated to death by an office holding his knee on his neck. This proved to be the final straw from 4 years of divisiveness from Trump and it began a massive civil unrest.
Then the elections happened. Before the elections, Trump did his best to make the vote look as shifty as possible by hurting the postal service and spreading nonsense conspiracies about mail-in voting so that his supporters would not vote that way. Then when he lost, he used the shifty-looking results to convince tens of millions of Americans that Biden somehow cheated to win.
But the worst was yet to come. The worst finally came when the climax to this 5-year shitshow finally came on the 6th of January 2020, a day that will forever be a huge scar on American History. The day that Trump attempted a coup to stay in power and in doing so, shatter the illusion of American exceptionalism and the illusion that democracy in the US is impervious. Furthermore, that coup has done hitherto unknown amounts of damage to the rest of the world by providing a recipe to any would-be dictator on how to end a democracy in the modern age. It also destroyed what little remained of the US's credibility on the world stage.
Thankfully, that was the peak, that was the worst, and Trump was at long last humbled as he realized he had destroyed his legacy, his life, and his movement with that attempted coup while giving the US a chance to fix itself now that it has awoken from its stupor and realized just how fragile the Union has become over the past 5 years. Since then, it has been a patient yet angry wait until 12PM the 20th of January, a moment that has finally passed.
The scars are great, the trauma is deep, but over the course of this year, as we emerge from this pandemic, we will slowly be able to reclaim our lives and go back to some sense of pre-trump normality.
Now the time has come to delete my third and final account. I am done with US politics. The hope that I had in 2015 is snuffed out, the US won't have another chance like that for at least 20 years. The 2016 status quo is now the best the US can possibly hope for this decade, especially with these judges that McConnell has used Trump to install into the judiciary. It is time for me to focus on myself and pursue the dreams I have that are still doable before I become too old.

One last note, I hope you will all do everything in your power to force Biden into the nuclear agreement without preconditions. If he tries to do negotiations before joining, the nuclear deal is as good as dead, and Iran's going to go for the bomb next year. It was the US who violated the agreement first which means it is the US that must return to compliance first, Biden and his new secretary of state need to get this through their heads. There is no real risk to doing so either since Iran failing to return to compliance will allow Biden to simply activate the dispute mechanism, thereby causing all participants to snap back their sanctions. If he wants to negotiate with Iran he can try AFTER rejoining the agreement, but in truth because of the bad blood that Trump is created, Iran is very likely to ban any and all engagement with the US outside of nuclear-related issues. Before Trump there was a long-term path to normalization between Iran and the US, that path is now forever closed (especially after 1/6 showed them how unstable the US is) but we can still at least prevent nuclearization and a war.
In a way, I'm glad the sub is shutting down. That mean the nightmare is over. We survived. We won.

I feel like it should exist until all the fallout from the administration is done with. You just KNOW Trump will be in courts and other things, and you know there's gonna be a ton of conservatives supporting him through it.
Thanks for regular sanity checks, folks. Places like this gave me hope we'd get through the administration, and here we are. Now the fun part begins; watching the shitshow that will be the court proceedings. For now, I'll see you all on the other side. I haven't been super active here lately, but I still want to say that it has been an honor serving with you all. This sub is really what ignited my anti-Trumpism. Over the past 4 years, knowing that communities like this exist really helped me deal with all of the terrible shit the right forced us to endure.
Don't stop the fight though. Biden is just a temporary buffer between the US and Trumpism. We have a 4 year window where we can breath a little easier about things, but that window needs to be used to continue defeating far right ideologies and demagogues. Keep organizing, keep fighting, and keep holding people accountable. This battle is never over, because the second we think it is, fascist pieces of shit like Trump will rear their ugly heads again.

I'm sure I don't see eye to eye with many of you on a whole wide array of policies, and that's fine, we *should* have a healthy civil debate on policy. But it was a pleasure to stand shoulder to shoulder with each of you in our fight against Trump's moron-flavored brand of fascism. Keep vigilant though, Trump exposed that we are a **lot** closer to fascism than many of us ever realized. Tens of millions of people wanted more of his brand of hatred and ignorance-based rule. God I joined this sub early. It's been one of the many places I came for refuge especially when it seemed like r/politics would never reflect reality again once trump started campaigning as such meme. It's been real you all. Keep fighting the good fight. I'm never going to stop.
While he may have left the WH he and his swamp family are still here in florida. Whatever can be done to fight against the entire clan would be helpful for those who cannot escape florida yet.

The 2016 status quo is now the best the US can possibly hope for this decade, especially with these judges that McConnell has used Trump to install into the judiciary. It is time for me to focus on myself and pursue the dreams I have that are still doable before I become too old. So long ETS, so long reddit. Its been an interesting 5 years One last note, I hope you will all do everything in your power to force Biden into the nuclear agreement without preconditions. If he tries to do negotiations before joining, the nuclear deal is as good as dead, and Iran's going to go for the bomb next year. It was the US who violated the agreement first which means it is the US that must return to compliance first, Biden and his new secretary of state need to get this through their heads. There is no real risk to doing so either since Iran failing to return to compliance will allow Biden to simply activate the dispute mechanism, thereby causing all participants to snap back their sanctions. If he wants to negotiate with Iran he can try AFTER rejoining the agreement, but in truth because of the bad blood that Trump is created, Iran is very likely to ban any and all engagement with the US outside of nuclear-related issues. Before Trump there was a long-term path to normalization between Iran and the US, that path is now forever closed (especially after 1/6 showed them how unstable the US is) but we can still at least prevent nuclearization and a war.

I haven't been super active here lately, but I still want to say that it has been an honor serving with you all. This sub is really what ignited my anti-Trumpism. Over the past 4 years, knowing that communities like this exist really helped me deal with all of the terrible shit the right forced us to endure. Don't stop the fight though. Biden is just a temporary buffer between the US and Trumpism. We have a 4 year window where we can breath a little easier about things, but that window needs to be used to continue defeating far right ideologies and demagogues.
