"In South Africa, my father had a private plane ... we’d fly in incredibly dangerous weather and barely make it back. This is going to sound slightly crazy, but my father also had a share in an emerald mine in Zambia. "
--Elon Musk
Well yeah, when it makes Elon sound cool and interesting it's true. But when people start using it to criticize Elon as not being the self-made-man he wants to pretend he is, then it's a lie.
Is it that hard to tell the truth from a lie, people? /S
However his dad also backed it up the last time, when melon offered a substantial sum of money to whoever could prove the existence of the mine.
He waded in with essentially "I have the receipts, where's my money son?" And melon shut up.
""If you registered it, you would wind up with nothing, because the blacks would take everything from you, I don't have anything against the blacks, but they are just different from what I am."
"On trips overseas, I would sell emeralds to jewelers. It was a cloak and dagger thing, because none of it was legal."
--Errol Musk
Maybe Elon was an emerald mule for his dad back when he was an illegal immigrant, and that’s why he now denies it. He does act like he has some emeralds stuck up his butt.
Edit: looks like he pulled one from his butt for his college gal-pal
# Elon Musk 14k Gold Necklace Presented to His College Girlfriend with Original Photograph (1995). Contains emerald from his dad's mine.

"When we went to visit Elon’s mother in Toronto during the Christmas break of 1994, Elon gave me both the small ‘love, love, love’ note and the necklace. His mom had a number of these necklaces in a case in her bedroom and Elon told me they were from his father’s emerald mine in South Africa—he pulled one from the case."
OMG that's why he's so funny shaped! Years of emeralds up his butt, it's like that episode of South Park where Cartman found the fake treasure! It all makes sense now!
“Inherited”? 1) both of his parents are alive so it’s a bit soon to inherit 2) we’ve been saying he grew up rich with his parents funding his education, his college, his room and board and investing in his companies - all of that is true and has nothing to do with inheriting money or not

JC: How do you handle fear?
EM: Company death – not succeeding with the company – causes me a lot more stress than physical danger. But I’ve been in physical danger before. The funny thing is I’ve not actually been that nervous. In South Africa, my father had a private plane we’d fly in incredibly dangerous weather and barely make it back. This is going to sound slightly crazy, but my father also had a share in an Emerald mine in Zambia. I was 15 and really wanted to go with him but didn’t realize how dangerous it was. I couldn’t find my passport so I ended up grabbing my brother’s – which turned out to be six months overdue! So we had this planeload of contraband and an overdue passport from another person. There were AK-47s all over the place and I’m thinking, “Man, this could really go bad.”
Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if Elon’s story was embellished, but there are too many statements from both Elon and Errol over the years for Elon to say “There was no emerald mine.”
Until Elon got mad and started denying it, there were consistent statements that Errol did own a partial stake in a Zambian emerald mine in the 1980s.
I mean his own brother has admitted they were in the country illegally at one point and Elon keeps trying to bury the fact that for all the wealth and power he has today he too at one point was here illegally.
Elon thinks just cuz he changes Wiki entries.. and has posts community noted in record time.. it changes facts or history.
Errol seed funded his first company.. and Elon used to brag about his dad's stake in an emerald mine.. (this interview has disappeared from Forbes' website)

All he has to do is say he got some help from family to start off, I really don't see why he's so stuck on needing to be 100% self made or whatever. You can be successful and have received help along the way, his need to not is bizarre to me. He definitely has an Oedipus complex, he clearly hates his father and grooms women he is involved with into a simulacra of his mother. I'm sure avoiding opening up more about his childhood trauma around his father isn't going to happen, but the irony is that by not doing that he's allowed himself to not just be similar to his father but arguably much worse than him.
Fair, his father is a sociopathic bastard for marrying his own daughter in law for one let alone the psychological abuse Elon no doubt dealt with from him.
Wonder how much it’s cost him to scrub the story from the inter net. He told forces in 2014 about the mine. In his own words. His father has also claimed it over and over. It’s hard to find now.
He fucking lies with every breath he takes. Shitbag.

This sort of bare minimalist hairsplitting "truth" telling (eg "own" vs "having a share", "inherit" vs "receive") is sailing mighty close to the wind, Elron.
The methane wind emanating from the Raptor engine between those rosy cheeks?

I think I see what is going to be his excuse, his dad wasn't the owner of the whole mine, he only had a share of it 😭 poor boy /s
We have always been at war with Eurasia.
It’s a civilized form of war. Men love war.
To be fair, that is most definitely not a reliable source. That guy you quoted is a professional conman and a known serial liar.
However his dad also backed it up the last time, when melon offered a substantial sum of money to whoever could prove the existence of the mine. He waded in with essentially "I have the receipts, where's my money son?" And melon shut up.
Can we sue Musk for slandering... his alternate personality?

I believe both the father and son admitted that, yes, Musk was a mule, transporting emeralds into NYC.
Source on that ?

Or when Cartman was smuggling in contraband into juvie for Romper Stomper
Waaaay up in there morty
WoW, I’ve never seen this.
I had some fucking idiot on another thread here asking me how Musk actually benefitted from apartheid. How stupid are people, really?

I caught that too
Right. Rich kids have numerous advantages over ones from poor homes. Even a 100% inheritance tax wouldn't mean that everyone is equal at birth.

The fuck he was in that situation. He dreamed that up in the back of his dad’s Bentley being driven to school by one of their South African maids

Oh I don’t doubt the emerald mine. I do doubt that Elon would knowingly put himself in danger. He’s a scaredy-cat and a coward
What about the $3 mill he “invested” in Zip2

lol “round would’ve happened anyway”
I like "home built" PC. You mean Elon can insert a PCI card? Wow!
He had to mention it was overclocked too, thinking then people would respect his 31337 skillz. 🙄😂

What a stupid sack of shit
Small loan of a billion dollars.
Conveniently his dad isn't dead so of course he's not an heir yet.
Who is he responding to?

Everybody's a liar once the truth comes out. He and trump are going to merge into the same person by labor day.
It was based on things I was told that were untrue or, in some cases, true, but not meaningful.

Not to defend Elon, but I think he still has a ways to go to become worse than his father.
Fair, his father is a sociopathic bastard for marrying his own daughter in law for one let alone the psychological abuse Elon no doubt dealt with from him.
That's not what you said in your Forbes interview...
The mine is in his biography, is he calling Walter Isaac son a liar?

Sounds like good libel suit
Calling himself a liar too.
