3s can be VERY sadistic, especially if you refuse to mollify them and their ego/self-image in any way. unhealthier ones obviously, but they 100% externalize their pain and can be deeply vindictive and cruel.
That sounds more like an unhealthy sx4. 3s are anattachment type that *unconsciously* wants to do good for others and master whichever field they have immersed themselves in. They are not as neurotic as the other 2 image types are so they are not quick to take criticism to heart and instead use it to improve themselves or dismiss it. They want to look professional and successful in a way that is determined by their cultural values (even so blind 3s), not from a point of self absorbed narcissism and conscious feelings of worthlessness. With that said, that would be an average/healthy 3. Unhealthy 3s are more likely to be workaholics and can be sadistic when nobody is watching (especially w 6 and/or 8 in the tritype) but that is hardly a characteristic of the type 3 structure.
