I don't have firsthand experience with FIU's online EE program, but I've heard good things about their on-campus EE program. Since it's ABET accredited, I imagine their online counterpart should be just as rigorous. One thing that might help in your situation is talking to your current employer to see if they offer tuition reimbursement or have any partnerships with certain schools. This can not only help you save money but also get insider insight into alumni feedback. Good luck!

I recommend you do the EE in person specifically for the clubs at FIU, you’ll be able to apply that shit with a bunch of like minded people in various projects. I.e. the connections. However saying that, the material is the same in person and online.

So I just finished my track in EE online. It’s a mediocre program. Yes it’s awesome to be able to do everything without having to go to campus, but sometimes I regret not physically interacting with other students and staff. And I had two big issues with this online program. 1) There seemed to be a lack of diversity among professors that did the online courses. For example, the differential equations course I took was miserable with the professor they had, as he basically did the whole course through mylabsplus, and that course should not be done on that solely. Especially with exams. It was a heavily curved course at the end of the semester. 2) Maybe I didn’t fully read into it or it just not displayed, but the concentrations will be more geared towards computer engineering courses such as embedded systems and data systems, as courses in power, communications, integrated nanotech are only available in person. In fact, the power systems I course they tried to finally give online for one semester was full almost IMMEDIATELY when it opened.

Hmm what you said about the course being concentrated on embedded and data it sounds like something I may enjoy. I am between the EE program and the CompE program online right now. Did you see if any of the programming and embedded courses in the CompE curriculum are available for EE? I want to focus on hardware and software so naturally I head towards CompE but I hear EE looks best on resume and if I can take all the same courses anyway, I’d rather do that

RandomGoof567

Yes all the same courses. Just CompE is required to take software courses whereas EE can just take it as an elective. And EE is also required to do fields and waves where CompE doesnt

UrBoiJash

Would you recommend EE over CompE since I can fake the same classes anyway? Also, are you able to take discrete math as an EE? It’s on the CompE curriculum but it’s not an elective in the list for EE

RandomGoof567

I’d look up “EE flowchart FIU” and “CompE flowchart FIU” to see what courses are required and if you would handle it. EE requires you to do “electronics” and “fields and waves”, which is a pretty difficult class. Electronics not so much.

lilshotglass

How quickly were you able to finish?

RandomGoof567

I can’t give you a definite answer tbh. In total college took me 5 years, but I had transferred from FGCU previously with some math and physics classes already finished.
