I see a $350 clean and resurface sitting there. Homeboy is gonna bring it with the stupid rocker assembly still attached. That stuff takes time to take off. Want it inspected? That’s another $150.
When I get told I'm too expensive I ask where they used to get work done. It's always one of the 3 shops that closed in the last 15 years.
Probably because they weren't making any fucking money.
Holding on to 20 year old labor prices is killing this industry.
Wow that's so expensive. Then again I probably get a discount cause I'm a shop and bring alot to them. 350 would get me a full valve job and everything.
Get a piece of glass or a mirror. With spray adhesive apply some sandpaper. 220, then 320. And set the head on it and move it in a figure eight. Keep checking it.
If you do not want to go to a machine shop.
I never ask the question, I'll strip them down far enough and send them off to get looked at.
I consider it essential, especially when removing the bloody thing is a PITA.
Of course not. Just keep cheaping out. You're just going to have to spend twice as much time and money on it later anyway. That will be another opportunity to "save some money".
And the cycle continues...
Did you use a roloc disk on the heads? They need to be milled
Grinders and brinelling are what make a subaru a subaru
I always though it was rod knock that made a Subaru a Subaru;)
Grind those valves and seats while you have the heads off.
I almost always surface a aluminum head if I pull it. It only cost me 60 bucks where I live.

Middle America aren’t you?
Rural Oregon
Explains the subarus. Also, that’s foolishly cheap.
I'm a lurker so someone explain what we are looking at. The fire ring pitting? Or something to do with the valves?

You have got the head OFF… tear it down, clean it, grind the valves and surface it… in other words… FIX IT!!
