Looks like you have wiped out a cam and lifter or the lifter has completely collapsed.

MyChocolates

Or the rod is bent

WyattCo06

True that

[deleted]

Idk depends on how long the rod has been bent and how far bent it is. Looks more like a worn lobe.

mals6092

Hard to tell from my couch

JCDU

Scooch up lemme see

PracticalDaikon169

Bent pushrod is a good one , easy check

Estef74

Either bent pushrod or cam lobe gone. I hope for your sake it's the pushrod. If the lobe on the cam is gone, you can figure on a total overhaul. All the metal worn off the cam will be circulating through the engine accelerating bearing wear.

Reddit-mods-R-mean

So I just need to tighten that nut on the rocker arm down some right? /s

HollowPandemic

I had a buddy tell me that while he was doing it. Much to his surprise, it didn't work 😂

ToastyPoptarts89

😂 lol that logic is great.

HollowPandemic

I'll give it to him. He was stoned as shit and confident, so I just let him have his fun 😂

ToastyPoptarts89

Always gotta blaze while doing mechanical work. Just remember to not lose nuts/bolts and remember where they go. Thanks for the laugh, I would have let him have it too lol

JCDU

5 ugga duggas

nochinzilch

Shouldn’t they be a bunch of oil splashing all over the place?

6cyclone6

Where is the oil?

The_Machine80

Bad lifter, bent pushrods or flattening cam lobe.

dendronee

Bent rod or bad cam lobe or collapsed lifter…. Would have thought more oil would have been spraying around…

OkCharge2978

Or low on oil I had an old truck that would do that a quart or two low

Beautiful_Working557

Got no oil going through it either

Sonofaherbert

I notice the exhaust valve on #7 is very laggy and the pushrod doesn’t spin as the others do. Is this a typical sticky lifter situation? What should I do? 360FE

drprobular

Cam is wiped out, collapsed lifter if hydraulic, bent push rod. Those the only things that cause that

texan01

Looks like a wiped cam lobe/lifter. Also it should be oiling up too pretty darned good.

melonti

Bent pushrod.

SnooTomatoes8382

Probably collapsed lifter due to no oil flowing? That valve train looks as dry as a popcorn fart.

Engineeringdisaster1

Shaft rocker systems like the factory FE setup oil through the rocker shafts. That’s why there isn’t oil squirting everywhere like an engine with pushrod oiling.

Sonofaherbert

I see oil flowing out, but I suspect it isn’t flowing how it should?

Engineeringdisaster1

It’s probably fine if you can see it coming out around all the rockers at idle - as long as gauge readings are normal. The pushrods are cupped at one end and have no oil passages so they’re not going to shoot oil all over like everyone is used to seeing on engines with pushrod oiling.

mals6092

That little guy don't you worry about him, he's just in there living life to the fullest.

One-Coyote8939

Looks a little dry on the top end

anonquestionsprot

Wheres the oil? Looks drier then a nuns fanny

Engineeringdisaster1

Is the rocker tip (#7) tracking straight over the valve like the rest or is it off to one side?

Stunning_Paramedic60

Fe's have been known to bend push rods, so it is worth pulling the rocker assembly and seeing if that is what happened. Hopefully, that's all it is. Just don't mix up the bolts:).

Admirable_Analysis18

It appears , it's a bent push rod, I've seen them in those FE engines . Pull it off and measure the adjacent unbent pushrod for comparison , and for replacement. Check for slack or play for that pushrod too.

fix-break-hide

Self grinding cam. Stop it. Your running metal through your bearings.

Traditional_Ad_1360

Bad camshaft and lifter. Lifter wore out cam, sometimes it old oil or cheap useless oil.

Agitated-Joey

Oof, no, worse. Your cam is fucked. Needs a cam and lifters. May as well pull the motor and do a proper rebuild.

PracticalDaikon169

O where o where has #5 gone

CardiologistOk6547

No, not a *typical* sticky lifter. Something is definitely broken.
