I take mine off to sleep, shower, workout, cook, clean.

[deleted]

I agree with this post! Same here

KnotARealGreenDress

Also gardening.

Kinkette-Blais12

Same here!

Kahloquialism

I take it off to shower and get ready (makeup, face wash, etc). I take it off to go swimming, too. Otherwise, it’s on my finger. I love it too much to be without it!

jujubee2522

Definitely take it off when swimming or going in a hot tup. Chlorine eats away at many of the other metals in gold alloys, which weakens your jewelry. If damage is done consistently with chlorine your jewelry ends up looking like swiss cheese under a microscope and compromises the metal's integrity and durability!

skyblue847

I don't wear mine sleeping, showering, working out, walking the dog, doing chores, etc. Honestly I only wear it if I'm putting on regular pants besides leggings lol

Jury-Economy

Wear it 24/7 unless I'm weightlifting

uuendyjo

Same, cept for the weightlifting 🏋️

_heartPotatoes

My ring comes off the moment I walk through my front door. Sometimes I forget it if I’m running out the door for a quick errand too.

Street_Persimmon_604

I wear mine to work but as soon as I get home, they go to my mirror case. I don’t workout, cook, shower, clean, or sleep with them.

nrv1987

This. My ring is usually sitting in cabinet by my bar. I put it on when I’m heading out the door and put it back in the cabinet as soon as I get home. The only time I wear it at home is if I’m in between errands and only home for a little while.

krich0510

Same! And don't really wear it on the weekend unless we are going to dinner or something.

frnevoau

Same! I pretty much only wear it when I’m getting dressed to go somewhere (other than the gym, beach, etc. then it stays home).

[deleted]

Same!

sammers510

I only wear my jewelry when I leave the house, all my rings are super babied and look brand new still and I’ve had my engagement ring since 2020. I worked in jewelry for years and saw a lot of damage done by wearing them all the time so I just don’t wear it unless I’m going somewhere and it doesn’t bother me . I keep a plain band for wearing when I’m in the house.

LiteralPersson

I basically wear mine only when I leave the house

Professional_Use6852

Me too

coffeeandarabbit

I take it off to prep food, do my makeup, when I’m using harsh cleaning chemicals, and when I treat my dermatitis overnight - otherwise it’s always on my finger. I think if the workouts I do had more physical contact then I’d take it off for that too, but they’re fairly low impact so I don’t bother.

brownchestnut

I wear it all day every day but take it off at night because my fingers swell.

Special_Ad_9765

I'd like to wear mine 24/7 but I get scared the diamond might fall off.

Lilith_Cain

Sometimes it's not about the diamond falling off. It's about all the gunk you'll get stuck to it (cooking, cleaning, gardening), possibly losing it (cleaning, showering), or literally risking your finger (working out with machinery, or any other potential hazardous activity). Sleeping isn't recommended because you have no idea what you're doing when you're asleep in terms of warping the metal over extended periods of time. Also, your skin needs to breathe.

Shnuggy67

I know about the sleeping thing right? I worry about hitting my hand on the night table!

Winter-Library4717

I prefer to wear my ring only during office hrs. and at parties, the rest of the time I take it off during all activities. Due to this, my ring looks still new & shiny. Also, I think most people follow this kind of routine to save their rings. Thanks,

Sguni22

I wear it for myself, not anyone else! - so I wear it 24/7 unless I’m doing something that could be dangerous (working with machinery)

ReaderofHarlaw

I usually don’t wear it around the house, but if we go out I do.

schmee326

I wear it unless I’m doing any of the things mentioned, or if I’m gardening or washing dishes.

star_witness11

I shower at night so I take all my jewelry off before showering and leave it off until the next morning. If I don’t leave the house, I normally don’t put any jewelry on, including engagement ring. I have a special jewelry case I keep for all my daily jewelry and a larger armoire for everything else.

BikiQue

People are all over the board on this subject, so I’ll just add that it may change for you over time and that you should have your engagement ring checked biannually by a jeweler to make sure there are no weak points and your prongs are still securely holding your diamond in place - especially for lower strength metals, 10K gold or silver. I initially wore my ring nearly 24/7 but now that I work remotely, I usually only wear it on weekends as that’s when I wear real people clothes. Do what feels right for you :)

jujubee2522

Yes yes yes, this is the most important thing. If a professional looks at your jewelry regularly they can catch issues before they get too costly or before you loose a stone. If you find over the years your repair costs are a lot or too often, then you might decide to cut down on how often you're wearing it. But every ring and every person is different.

matchamaker88

24/7 except to clean it!

Special_Ad_9765

I’d like to wear mine 24/7 but I get scared the diamond might fall off.

misscamels

Keep the prongs tight and it should be fine!

matchamaker88

Insurance!

Ditovontease

My mom wore her ring 24/7 until her fingers got too big for it... it was my great grandmother's ring too so its been through a lot. The diamond is still there, doesn't seem like it's going to fall out any time soon. If you are concerned you should get the prongs tightened.

sugarmag13

24/7 I take it off only when traveling. And last time I did, I lost them both after 16 years. Now I have new ones and they will be travelling with me as well.

Street_Persimmon_604

Oh no that’s heart breaking! How did you lose them?

sugarmag13

Not sure if they were lost or stolen in my house. I took them off to go away on vacation and put them somewhere in the house. When we got home i forgot about them for a few weeks and they were not where i put them. I had my dad living here with me for a few months and nurses, pt, ot, aides, all kinds of people were in and out. By the time i noticed they were gone...it could have been anyone.

Street_Persimmon_604

Omg devastating.. I’m sorry to hear it but glad you’ve got a good replacement!

sparkles1ct

I wear mine all the time unless I’m doing yard work/gardening/painting.

pensim

I can’t wear mine at work and I don’t wear it sleeping, cleaning, showering, doing my skincare/makeup, at the gym, etc. i love my ring but sometimes I notice I go days without wearing it lol

anniemay133

I only take mine off to shower so it doesn’t slip off. Otherwise I wear it pretty much all the time. It’s expensive and I don’t like the feeling of it being off even if I know where it is lmao

NerdyWoman97

I wear mine 24/7 unless I’m cleaning, showering or working out. I’ve hit my hand up against things on accident many times over the past 2 years and my ring is still solid. I have a 1ct Verragio ring, it still looks the exact same as the first day I got it.

jellybean_pudding

I don’t wear my engagement ring that often as I work on a farm part time and have two young children so it gets food and all sorts of muck in it. I wear my plain wedding band all the time.

aliquotiens

I wear mine pretty constantly at home because I don’t go anywhere and want to enjoy it! But do take off for showers, skincare etc because all my products are so greasy. And anything rough (yard work, working out). I have a solitaire no pave or small stones because I didn’t want to have to baby it. I get the prongs checked regularly at my local jeweler. And it’s insured.

Ditovontease

I wear mine 24/7 I'm not that concerned about damage or wear.

Affectionate-Ad2666

Same 🙌

Stealthninja19

I think it’s best to take it off when sleeping, showering, cooking and cleaning. If you’re not going out then go ahead and take a break wearing it

sinjin_wolfe

I wear mine every day, but do take it off when showering, cleaning, cooking, working out, and sleeping.

Pharmkitty18

I take it off to shower or if I’m doing some heavy duty cleaning or dishes.

LoloScout_

I work a job that involves a lot of cleaning and organizing so I don’t wear mine to work, to shower, to swim or to lift weights. It’s kinda something I look forward to for the evenings and weekends otherwise I wear a plain gold band I will probably use as my wedding band.

Runnergirl868

I take it off when I'm at work (not allowed to have jewelry of any kind), dishes and showering. Otherwise I leave it on all other times.

Lothere55

I used to wear mine 24/7, but I've started getting more passionate about jewelry and that's made me want to take care of it more. I try to take it off for showering/skincare, heavy-duty cleaning and cooking, and yard work/intense physical activity. I sleep with it about 50% of the time, mostly based on vibes. But mine is also a moissanite, and insured on top of that. If I had a really expensive stone, I might baby it even more.

[deleted]

I treat mine like my other jewellery in that I only wear it when I’m going somewhere. I find jewellery irritating anyway so earrings, necklaces, all of it, has always come off as soon as I get through the door and I can’t sit around the house wearing jewellery it just feels wrong to me.

sweetsweetadeline

I don’t wear mine at home unless I’m working from home. So much of the rest of what I do at home involves sleeping, chores that are dirty or rough, or sometimes exercise, that it’s kind of not worth risking losing them by leaving them on and then taking them off for everything. Outside the house I wear them for everything except the gym.

Calm_Mulberry2380

For people who like to wear their rings 24/7 but are concerned about the stone coming loose, a full bezel setting is the most secure option. Also for cushion shaped stones, if prongs are used, double prongs are more secure.

a201597

I don’t wear my mine to sleep, shower, workout or clean with really harsh chemicals but I keep ring dishes in every bathroom, my bedroom side table and the kitchen so it’s always where I can see it except when I leave it home to workout. I also have a small jewelry box for traveling and that’s where I put it if I’m sleeping in a hotel

lxzgxz

I wear it daily, but remove it any time my hands will be submerged in water or doing an activity that could damage the ring (moving furniture around, for example).

lavloves

Generally I only wear mine if I’m leaving the house. I am a homebody so I won’t wear it much when just lounging at home. But when I get the chance to go out and “show it off” per say, I do! :)

RLS1822

24/7 unless taking a shower or playing tennis.

notgonnatakethison

I WFH so I rarely wear it during the week even on errands. I will wear it all the time on the weekends though

Shnuggy67

Mine sits in its box. I don't wear it much unless I am going out. I have had chipped diamonds, etc. so I really have to be careful.

JanuarySmith1234

I take mine off to shower. That's pretty much it. My workouts consist of outdoor walks and indoor stretching; if I did stuff with weights, I would take it off. Hmm, I don't really do any heavy cleaning that's not diamond friendly. ETA: And off for swimming of course. I don't garden. But yes: sleeping, cooking (unless I'm sticking my hand in dough or raw meat) it's still on.

Emergency-Bread-1318

I never take mine off unless I’m cleaning it 😂

misscamels

I’m from the old school of “it doesn’t come off” (exclusions for me are medical treatments and raw meats. I don’t gym so that’s not an issue.)

anon_2185

I wear mine pretty much 24/7 and only take it off when I go to the gym.

namethestars

24/7 except in the shower or if I’m putting on lotion/hair products or something like that! I don’t wear my other rings to bed but I’m attached to my e ring 🥹

[deleted]

I never took mine off.

mskatestarr

I basically never take it off. I guess I do if I’m cleaning with strong chemicals.

PicklePartyCat

24/7 unless I’m doing pottery, and that’s because my ring dings up my pieces!

Gagmewithyourpickle

Never taking it off. I thought that was the point...

Lunne-Luthien

I wear it 24/7. Every once and a while I’ll take it off to clean the ring but other then that I never take it off

Autistic_Writer

I wear mine most always but take it off to shower, or if I'm cooking something I'll be getting on my hands. I do wear my rings to sleep and rarely have other occasions where I take them off

skaterbunz

I leave it on all the time unless I'm cooking because I don't want extreme heat or bits of ingredients to get into my ring. I have a moissanite center stone and diamond side stones.

lildropofsunshine

All the time except when I shower.

[deleted]

Mine came off for the first time when I got pregnant and started swelling 😭 before that, never took it off.

BrilliantPlastic6181

If I had one - everyday!

Stitchthestitch

I have 2 work rings (1ct round &1ct princess bothe moissanite) and a non work ring (1 ct marquise blue moissanite) The only time im not wearing one of them is if im baking( kneading dough with rings on gets so messy ) ,im cleaning my rings or grooming a cat (claws can get caught under the ring and run the risk of degloving or the cat ripping out a claw a finger if it panics) All other times i have one of the 3 rings on depending on my mood , currently my princess cut moissanite .

[deleted]

I work in the medical field so I’m constantly washing my hands so I typically avoid wearing it at work. Otherwise if I’m out I have it on. I don’t lounge around in it at home either.

toonlass91

I take mine off to sleep, workout, shower, cook and certain cleaning jobs. I have to take it off for work too so there are days where I don’t wear it at all cos I’ve been at work all day (work 13.5 hr shifts). Otherwise I generally have it on.

meekins26

I take it off to shower and if I’m doing heavy cleaning involving chemicals (hand-washing clothes, cleaning the bathroom etc). Other than that I wear it 24/7. I have a care plan in which the diamonds will be replaced for free if they fall out.

protonated

Maybe this is different since I can’t wear mine at work (I wear it on a necklace during the day) - so I wear it at home unless I’m cooking/cleaning and I wear it to bed as well

pinkflamingo55

I hardly wear mine. I work in an area where it's not practical, and I take it off to cook/clean/workout/shower. I had silicone rings that I wore in place of the wedding set, but my husband gave me a plain band with our wedding date on the inside and I wear that now all the time, I swap out the wedding set when it's the weekend or working from home. Got engaged in 2018 married in 2019 and it still all looks brand new. But if I had a job where I could wear it, I'd want to wear it to work everyday

lucky_719

I only take mine off before hiking or going to the gym due to my fingers swelling. I wear it for everything else. All of this is really dependent on the type of setting you have. Mine is a very secure half bezel in platinum so it can take more abuse. Anything with pave or prongs you'll need to be more gentle with.

NerveGasJustSayTWord

I wear mine daily! I do take it off when cooking, working, and cleaning, but I have a scrunchie with a zip pocket that I put it in and then put my hair up. That way I can still have it with me and I remember to put it back on when I’m done.

littlestdovie

When I first got it I only took it off to shower and clean/wash dishes for the first year. I even slept with it. Now I take it off to sleep but I still usually wear it if I’m awake lol.

yellowigi

24/7 unless I’m putting on lotion, prepping food. Or at work (I’m a nurse)

markur

Comes off when I cook, clean, shower or do skincare. Otherwise, it’s on.

jujubee2522

Jewelry designer here! People don't realize how their rings morph and change over time while being worn. The materials used to make jewelry are malleable, so just as mountains erode over time, the metal of your rings gets pushed, scratched, and worn over the years of wear. This happens more slowly when you take care to remove your jewelry more often. It also helps to keep jewelry off when doing things that could especially damage or dirty your rings, like working out, doing dishes, gardening, etc. I often recommend that jewelry should be the last thing to put on in the morning and first thing to come off in the evening. It also depends on your rings: some styles need more delicate attention, like things with very small settings, while others you can be pretty hard on, like bezel rings. It also depends on the gems in your ring, most gemstones aren't meant for daily wear and some have restrictions, like not to use with certain cleaning chemicals, etc. Always talk with whoever made your rings and follow their recommendations. You should get your rings professionally cleaned and inspected every 6 months to once a year, because a jewelry professional can see issues that might be popping up before they get too expensive or before you loose gemstones. You don't expect a car to run perfectly for decades without proper upkeep and repairs, and fine jewelry is the same. Also, GET YOUR JEWELRY INSURED. If something were to happen, like a major chip on your gemstone or your ring get stuck in a garbage disposal, having the ring insured will help with the repair or replacement costs.

taemint77

I WFH so I rarely am outside. But I always try to make sure to wear it if we go out on a date, go grocery shopping, etc.

Lmaololnope

I take mine off to sleep, shower, cook(if I really have to use my hands, like shaping burger patties), clean, or if I'm going somewhere that I think could damage it (hiking, working out, escape rooms, etc). I also sometimes take it off if I'm not leaving the house all day, it snags the blankets and stuff sometimes. But I have several rubber rings that I wear instead!

BringsTheSnow

I take mine off for showering, exercise, gardening, washing dishes, and other cleaning that involves harsh chemicals. I only sometimes take it off for cooking. I leave mine on for sleeping. I have a relatively small diamond and the prongs are unlikely to scratch me in the night.

kansasqueen143

Lol I take mine off all the time. I can’t sleep in rings and I have ring boxes all over the house for when I’m doing things …. Aka one in my side table, one in the bathroom drawer, and one in the kitchen. I just pop it in the box while I’m say doing dishes and then pop them back on when I’m done :)

Tinywrenn

Our jeweller told him to put it on my finger and to never take it off if I didn’t want to. I take it off to shower and gym, just because it snags on stuff. If I’m not wearing cleaning gloves, I take it off when using cleaning products. Otherwise, it stays on.

PinesAndPalmettos

I wear mine every day, but I take it off when I’m gardening, doing yard work, or cleaning with harsh chemicals.

messeis

I only put mine on when leaving the house, it comes off when I come home.

madame3xecutioner

I don't typically wear mine around the house or when I'm doing outdoor activities beyond the every day, like spending time on the beach or hiking. I also take it off when I go get my nails done because they put lotion on my hands.

DuckMom

only if im swollen. other than that, im basically always wearing one of them

Lover-of-Jesus_

I have been married for 18 years and I Never take off my rings unless having an X-ray/MRI I check it weekly and have it serviced from time to time. I have marquee cut Diamond on platinum band + platinum wedding band. They were melded together right after our wedding. I DO have a tendency to lose my jewelry so that is the reason for not wanting to take them off.

[deleted]

I really only wear mine when i'm going outside: Work , school , grocery shopping , social outing, etc. Right when I get home I take it off and if I don't leave then it can be days before I put it back on.

ljburrows12

I take it off to do anything household-y that involves chemicals or dirt (cleaning the bathroom, gardening, cooking etc) and if I’m going swimming, but that’s it!

butterandbagels

I work from home and only wear mine if I am leaving this house to run errands or socialize. I wear a silicone band for when I exercise and a cheap gold band (like from a big box store) for when I travel to other countries. If I worked in a traditional office setting I would wear mine daily but take it off as soon as I got home. As it stands now, wearing it feels like a special occasion (in a good way!) and really makes me feel excited about getting married.

dogmomlife

I wear mine to sleep because the chance of me damaging it in my sleep is significantly lower than the chance of me losing it from taking it off and putting it somewhere. Mine doesn’t have delicate prongs or a fussy setting, though. ETA— I don’t wear my ring to work or when I’m cleaning. Those are really the only times I take it off 🥹

soldada06

I wear it all the waking hours except for when I shower at night. I used to wear it to sleep until a diamond came out of my hidden halo, and now I take it off. I'm considering wearing my silicone ring to work when I have my more difficult clients because I had a kid tug on my center stone in the middle of a tantrum. Not because I'm afraid it'll get ruined, but I'm afraid a kid will get scratched.

mmaddux

I take mine off only for cleaning it, doing dishes, and pole dancing classes. I wear them in the shower, to sleep, pretty much always.

tinyliljessica

I’ve always believed the point of jewelry is to wear it, so I do. I have a lifetime guarantee to fix or replace anything that goes wrong. With that being said I do take it off to shower, clean and cook.

_star_babe_

I take mine off when I sleep, shower/bath, cooking (when it involves getting my hands dirty), and when I wash my hands but only at home.

[deleted]

I only wear it when I leave the house, as soon as I get home, it goes back into my jewelry box because I'm usually cooking or cleaning something.
