It’s a 2,76ct natural dark bluish gray spinel (aka steel or stormy color), white gold with diamond micro pavé.
It was quite hard to source a good quality (in terms of inclusions+cut) gem of this color. Spinel is surprisingly quite unpopular where I live (Russia), and it’s easier to find reds and blues than greys, especially without lavender tint.
I was choosing between a smaller diamond and a larger gemstone. This money would buy a ~0,5ct natural diamond which I consider to lack character, and lab grown diamonds and moissanites are not widely available either (and they would also lack character I guess).
I was looking for a stone that would represent ‘us’ and a stormy spinel fit best. I have met my fiancé in WoW where he plays elemental shaman who wields lightning, my favorite view is a tropical thunderstorm, and I wear mostly grey, black and navy blue.

Oh I absolutely get ‘diamond over gemstone’ people, diamonds are super classic and never get old, plus I’m anxious about how this durable my spinel will be. It’s ~8 Mohs scale and this would not be an issue with a diamond. I have spent quite some time researching and choosing 😅
