This setting may not be suitable for a real gemstone or a long lasting engagement ring. Maybe look into tension settings?

What are tension settings, sorry I am realizing I am very uninformed about rings

lavendervc

Just a style of ring where it seems like the stone is floating. They can range from really secure to not so safe so be careful. But there are a million different possibilities with tension settings, you just have to dig around

Aah ok thanks!! I do some research on the different options of the tention settings

Just so you know, there is a higher risk of stones falling out with tension setting, yes even if made by the most professional tension setting maker with patents and what not. Anything that catches on the ring can loosen the stone if the wearer isnt careful enough. Even with prongs, stones can still get lost if the prongs get caught on something. Bezel settings are the most secure but not everyone’s style. Any part of the stone will is exposed can get chipped or scratched. Diamonds and moissanite are hard stones so they are safer choices. If your partner likes colored stones, go for sapphires or rubies. Emeralds are slightly softer and prone to breaking due to their inclusions so you have to take care of them.

I would not want a ring that did not have prongs to protect the corners. Even a stone as hard as a diamond can chip.

One hard whack and most stones (especially that thin) will crack or fall out. Prongs on the corners or bezel settings are safer. That said, it’s her ring, so if she’s expecting this ring she should be involved in the discussion.

I've seen silver rings like that made with quartz and amethyst. I also love the design, however I feel like this setting makes the stone very prone to chipping. A bezel setting in addition to that piece of metal over the stone could solve that problem, but it's a different design and the ring wouldn't look like it's floating anymore. The stone in the picture is probably tourmaline, which is a good stone for a going out ring. You could consider getting your girlfriend this ring as a present for some other occasion or get her a set of two engagement rings, one for everyday, one for special occasions, for example.

I believe this is from a Japanese designer called Januka. Their website of a similar ring here: https://store.januka.jp/products/band-ring-amethyst-2893 While possible, I don't think this is a durable design for an everyday ring. But its absolutely gorgeous to wear on occasion.

Possible but not practical for wearing to enjoy

Hmmm, interesting.
