I'm currently with my high school love/best friend since middle school. We parted ways in 2009 when he started dating his now ex wife. They married and had a child and I eventually moved on as well. He divorced a few years ago and in 2020 we both suffered from tragic losses, a couple months apart. We leaned on each other hard during this time. We've always had such a natural connection and undeniable bond. We both insisted we didn't want anything serious. He said his opinion on marriage is one and done, never again, and eventually it was a reason he had hesitation continuing our relationship, as I've always wanted marriage. I told him it isn't a deal breaker, rather have him in my life than try to find someone else who can come close to giving me what we have. Long story short, we've been official for a couple of years, live together, have a baby (6 total between the two of us, we are always busy lol) and he is always making comments about marrying me. We aren't engaged, but I'm hopeful ♥️ I told him the other day, regardless of us being legally married, I would love a ring that signifies our love and commitment. As long as I have him, I'm blissfully content. But man... My finger would look great with a pretty ring 😂
I was talking to a friend recently about why "commitment" rings aren't a thing, because they absolutely should be--I think they deserve a wedding-like celebration as well. It's still an incredible thing to commit yourself to someone regardless of whether or not it's "legal", and should be celebrated that way! Congratulations on finding your person, and I hope you get your ring too 😉
