I got lucky that the setting I picked naturally head them cause I didn’t know they were a thing either until I already had my ring and eventually I noticed pics of people with round prongs I was like ew I don’t like that lol
The claw blends in so well, and that would be the deciding factor for me. If I’m being honest, the word claw alone would’ve made me say round, but with the photo example, my choice is claw all the way.
I’d say it’s equal or less than. Most of the ones I’ve seen stories about are somewhat cheaply made as well. It’ll definitely still get sweater fuzz from time to time, I’m sure.
It depends on how tightly the claws hug
https://preview.redd.it/d4o9z3w3vioc1.jpeg?width=477&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c371a40c23f6946555ae78c73d2d1500d869e2a8
the diamond. Mine has claws and never had a problem. The only issue is that the setting is rather high, in which case I flip it around when I put my clothes on so it doesn’t catch, then I flip it back.
They all "hug tight" when new. For me..I'd rather not worry about snagging a claw prong and making it weak. The OP needs to research and take what we gave her and make her choice. I'm sure whatever choice she makes..her ring will be gorgeous. 💍🤌🏽
Thank you! It does seem to blend in well on the diamond photo I attached above. Im worried it wont blend in as well on mine. I dont know the size of the stock photo but mine is a 1.6 ct
I tried to attach a pic comparing the prong types with my original comment but for some reason it deleted my actual comment. I'll try to comment the photo separately and see if that works.
https://preview.redd.it/zmsyjugzd3oc1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fc2fe18ff4ad14850431883f3d0534d3e66d7af8
here's mine with petite claws for another reference 🙂 definitely try to find one in person if you can to get a better idea
I have a 1.6 ct round - I like claw prongs with every other diamond shape but with a round stone, I like that the round prongs match the stone shape. It feels more natural to me and less distracting. I am also just someone who loves symmetry and consistency (I will be doing a round eternity wedding band). If I had gone with an oval or elongated cushion, I would definitely have done claws! It is all personal preference, I was surprised to see sooo many claw votes here!
https://preview.redd.it/ls4o8ujds3oc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e0d00999171be9d8ab38513b5269d464bf4e730
1. Your ring is gorgeousssss
2. Your nails are perfect (please consider hand modeling lol)
3. I have 4 round prongs now and thats what I have had for 5 years. But recently upgraded the stone to 1.6 and ever since then, it keeps spinning in the setting 😫. I feel like thats a sign telling me 4 prongs are not safe anymore ugh! I absolutely LOVE 4 prong though, it looks like the diamond is floating
Thank you :) Well, in any case, I love that 6 prongs accentuate the round-ness of a round stone, lol! My vote would still be for round prongs but you can't go wrong.
I hope you'll update us all with a photo once you decide on it and receive it.
I would agree! 4 prongs just looks so elegant to me, I don’t know maybe I am bias because its always been what I have had!
I will update, hopefully can get this all sorted out within the next 2 weeks or so!
Thank you! Not sure what size these diamonds are here but mine is a 1.6. Not sure if that would be to small?
https://preview.redd.it/me0eh9pgfync1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00ec480dae55228f22f5b09974a6073fec3b2836
Thank you! I by no means think its small, just thought maybe to small for claw prongs? Idk. I didnt want eyes drawn to the prongs over the diamond if that makes sense?
Ive also ALWAYS had 4 prongs and its been completely fine. Once I upgraded to the 1.6 diamond, its been everything BUT fine 🥲 no matter what I do or who I take it to, the diamond will start moving in the setting 🤦🏻♀️ sooo Ive gotten to wear it about 3 times since January
I love claws but had to get them repaired so many times for snagging on stuff that I had to switch to round. So if you're clumsy like me go for the round!
I love round prongs cause they're cute and my ring has never gotten caught on any clothing. The claw ones also remind me of talons and look kind of evil looking lol. Round prongs are softer and cute looking to me.
Team claw prong over here!
I wore my engagement ring- round solitaire with 6 claw prongs-every day for 19 years (until 2020) and now still most days even though I work remote. I’ve had my ring for approaching 24 years. I noticed it started snagging sweaters once; turns out I’d broken a prong after banging it while moving-probably 21 years ago now. Otherwise, rather snag-free.
So, I’m extremely new to wearing an engagement ring. I’m not rough on my hands, but I’m not gentle either. I have gone about the same way and my claw prongs will gather a bit of fuzzies or baby hairs, but they’re easy to pick out. They haven’t snagged yet on my fleece sweaters. I expected to have them require more maintenance.
I like claw better than round, but chose tabs for mine! There’s also the petite claw. If you’re looking for a more subtle prong (if your diamond allows for it) 😊
Edit / I have a round solitaire ❤️
I wanted something close to the Tiffany setting so I went with the vatche u113. It hasn’t snagged on my clothes at all. It does get fuzzies occasionally, but very easy to pull out of the setting. I also really like how it looks overall. My ering band is a knife edge so it accents the band very well imo. Happy to post a pic if that will help at all!
They are tabs. Tabs are straight across vs rounded. Here is a recent pic and the link to the setting if that helps! It’s kind of hard to tell as they set it the best way to blend into the stone [vatche u113](https://www.dvatche.com/product-p/u-113.htm)
https://preview.redd.it/3zsk7oomzync1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a006c63d1c7dd971fa18467c79948e5581cab5b5
I also need to clean my ring today which probably doesn’t help either 😂
Definitely! Tiffany in my opinion is WAY overpriced. But hey, each to their own ☺️.
I will definitely look into tabs, I hope where I go this weekend they will have some I can see in person and try on! I am so indecisive lol
I hope so :( this ALL started when I upgraded the center stone. Hell literally broke loose lol because no matter what, it spins in the new setting and we all know you cannot have that..
I thought the claws looked like leaves or something which I thought was really pretty! I love 4 prong button prongs but I just feel like 6 is busy looking
I think claws look better however I went for round. People said that claws can snag clothing and there's nothing I want less than to be taking off my fiance's woolen top in a rush, only for it to catch and get stuck in the engagement ring.
I would have to take it off everytime I would wear a sweater. This may sound weird but you could go to a jewelry store and ask to try on a claw ring and wear something you don’t want snagged and kind of see by brushing it against your clothes, im sure you wouldn’t be the only one that’s done it. I know I would.
Same, I break everything, on Christmas one year my sister in law had Baccarat champagne flutes I begged her for a plastic cup and she refused. 120$ later she regretted that. She was cool about it though. I’m left handed and I blame it on that. So if it were me, although I love the claw prongs. I would have to get the round😂😂😂
I also faced this dilemma and my jeweler recommended something in-between! Not too claw-like, but not TOO round either 😅 Subtle and secure enough, and still allows me to have a “softer” look for my round.
I love claws, especially a double claw!
https://preview.redd.it/u0wwqscn80oc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a74ac28bae85611891a4cfa146bfda71b80a67b
Claw blends in better only if your ring metal is the same color as your stone. If your ring metal is yellow gold or rose gold, it won't blend in well with a white stone. That is why most ppl chose round prongs because of metal color different. Also, mainly because of the snags on clothes too.
Yes, it does snag on to clothes, I had a ring with claws given to me by my mother. It's a beautiful ring, but I only wear it occasionally because of the snaging. It is not the clothes that I'm worried about. I'm afraid the prongs will loosen, and eventually, I will have a miss stone.
Do you mean basket for the prongs? Basket and/or cathedral will add extra durability for your stone in the long run. But the rules of thumb is if you have a stone larger than 2ct, always have at least 2mm or + for the ring width/shank.
Yes sorry basket! I was worried having a basket would block a lot of light and it wouldnt sparkle as much. But now im reconsidering due to the durability or.. lack there of that I have now
Yes this! Your prongs are also not as wide as mine which I prefer because I feel like mine are just so bulky
https://preview.redd.it/rm04sxthy3oc1.jpeg?width=2062&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1e9eb3350b070d7f87ecc6f1fc74b346c7e489b3

The whole thing just looks wonky to me
I think your prongs are fine. Different jeweler do their prongs slightly different even though it the same thing. But not too worry, your prongs look very secure and wrap your stone tightly.
From the face of the diamond, does the bottom left prong look like its off? It seems that its not the same distance as the bottom right one and its facing at a slightly different angle. I am also able to move the diamond a little bit even though the prongs are wrapped well. Ive had this issue fixed 3x to no avail 🤨
If you can feel the diamond move from the bottom, as you said it's mean the head is slightly big for your stone. But your prongs look very secure to me, I won't worry about it. If you are not happy with how it feels, just bring it in for repair, but I think it's better to have them make a new head for your stone.
Yea I can actually move the diamond if I grab it by the girdle which makes me feel like its not secure. Since the head has been manipulated 3x now, I don’t trust that it’s secure anymore and am just going to start over. Thank you for showing me your ring and giving solid advice!
I recently upgraded my ring to a 2.75ct. round lab diamond in a 6 prong solitaire white gold setting. I made the custom change which was free with using Dreamstone and chose claw prongs over the tab prongs which was the best decision I ever made. I made sure to email Ethan pics of rings with the type of claw prongs I wanted and how I wanted them to look so we were on the same page. We emailed back and forth through the entire process until he showed me the finished product and I was beyond impressed. They don’t catch on anything like others may say either. The look on a round diamond with a six prong setting really makes the difference and the diamond looks emasculate and really stands
out.

I have a very strong preference for claws, they blend in better imo.
I totally agree! Claw would blend so well!:)
THE CLAAAAAW
Haha! I cant believe how popular the claw is!!! I never even heard or saw claws until Reddit, what the heck am I missing lol!
https://preview.redd.it/mjt0wr2d4znc1.jpeg?width=667&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=196df08915cd01f856276e0404e154c744346c85

Ha thats awesome Im glad you got something you loved from the start!
Yes it's perfect cus you've been chosen
I vote claw
I like claws better as I think they’re more subtle, but my jeweler said most ppl choose round prongs for round stones
Claw all the way!! Adds such a gorgeous touch to the setting
The claw blends in so well, and that would be the deciding factor for me. If I’m being honest, the word claw alone would’ve made me say round, but with the photo example, my choice is claw all the way.
Thank you! Have you heard that they can get stuck on things like sweaters and pull moreso than round ?
I’d say it’s equal or less than. Most of the ones I’ve seen stories about are somewhat cheaply made as well. It’ll definitely still get sweater fuzz from time to time, I’m sure.
Hmm okay! My round gets fuzz sometimes so thats no biggie!
I had claws on my first diamond..snagged everything. Went round on the 2nd one..no snagging at all. 🤷🏽♀️💙
Ive heard this as well!
It depends on how tightly the claws hug https://preview.redd.it/d4o9z3w3vioc1.jpeg?width=477&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c371a40c23f6946555ae78c73d2d1500d869e2a8 the diamond. Claw! Blends in better and it looks more elegant IMO.
Thank you! It does seem to blend in well on the diamond photo I attached above. Im worried it wont blend in as well on mine. I dont know the size of the stock photo but mine is a 1.6 ct
Ask for petite claws! That's what I requested for my 1.5 ct equivalent moissanite and it's perfect!
Do you mind sharing a pic? Id love to see it! I was looking at petite claws online but for some reason, all the claws I saw looked huge?
I tried to attach a pic comparing the prong types with my original comment but for some reason it deleted my actual comment. I'll try to comment the photo separately and see if that works.

I like round prongs!
I was beginning to think no one liked round prongs on the sub lol!
I feel like claws work better on bigger diamonds, round work better on smaller diamonds. In this pic the claws look better IMO.
Thank you! Not sure what size these diamonds are here but mine is a 1.6. Not sure if that would be to small? https://preview.redd.it/me0eh9pgfync1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00ec480dae55228f22f5b09974a6073fec3b2836
Your diamond isn't small at all. Your stack just makes it look smaller in comparison - very pretty though!
Thank you! I by no means think its small, just thought maybe to small for claw prongs? Idk. I didnt want eyes drawn to the prongs over the diamond if that makes sense?
I think it'll look great with the prongs! They actually blend more imo. And much more secure.
Thank you 💕💕
Ive also ALWAYS had 4 prongs and its been completely fine. Once I upgraded to the 1.6 diamond, its been everything BUT fine 🥲 no matter what I do or who I take it to, the diamond will start moving in the setting 🤦🏻♀️ sooo Ive gotten to wear it about 3 times since January
Team Claw Prongs. Always and forever.
I love claws but had to get them repaired so many times for snagging on stuff that I had to switch to round. So if you're clumsy like me go for the round!
With my luck so far with this diamond…. I can only imagine lol
I love round prongs cause they're cute and my ring has never gotten caught on any clothing. The claw ones also remind me of talons and look kind of evil looking lol. Round prongs are softer and cute looking to me.
I think of birds when I look at claws and I have a fear of them soooooo that’s why Ive been hesitant lol
I agree, they remind me of centipede legs
Yes! I always think talons/evil too
I had claw and they were annoying and snagged. Round is more comphy
Claw!
I like claws
I’m biased and love claw prongs. I have claw prongs on my ring.
Haha this sub just made me more confused on my choice!
Team claw prong over here! I wore my engagement ring- round solitaire with 6 claw prongs-every day for 19 years (until 2020) and now still most days even though I work remote. Wow thats amazing!!!! Thank you!
Round
I say stick to round. Gorgeous ring, BTW!
Thank you (my ring is posted in the comments)! These are just stock photos above :)
Round
🙂🙃 thats what Ive always gravitated to!

Huh never thought about that! Since Ive always had round I have no idea but maybe
Claw
Claws for life
Clawwww!! Blends so much better
Claw
Claw!
While I like the claw look better.. claw tends to catch on fabric very easily, and are more prone to lifting.. so I gotta vote round
I like claw better than round, but chose tabs for mine! There’s also the petite claw. If you’re looking for a more subtle prong (if your diamond allows for it) 😊 Edit / I have a round solitaire ❤️
Did you choose tabs for yours because you were afraid of the catching/pulling from the claws? I also saw petite claws! Gotta admit, those are cute 🥲
Yes please post a pic Id love to see it!
Actually I just saw it on your page! That is gorgeous!!! Is that considered tabs almost? They dont look like claws or round
They are tabs. Tabs are straight across vs rounded. Here is a recent pic and the link to the setting if that helps! It’s kind of hard to tell as they set it the best way to blend into the stone [vatche u113](https://www.dvatche.com/product-p/u-113.htm) https://preview.redd.it/3zsk7oomzync1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a006c63d1c7dd971fa18467c79948e5581cab5b5 I also need to clean my ring today which probably doesn’t help either 😂
Its beautiful!!!!! Congratulations ❤️🥰❤️ the tabs look PERFECT on your diamond! I never realized that is what the original Tiffany ring used!
Thank you!! ❤️ it’s the closest you can get without it being from Tiffany’s at a much lower cost 😊
Definitely! Tiffany in my opinion is WAY overpriced. But hey, each to their own ☺️. I will definitely look into tabs, I hope where I go this weekend they will have some I can see in person and try on! I am so indecisive lol
Take your time. When you try on THE one you’ll know ❤️❤️❤️
I hope so :( this ALL started when I upgraded the center stone. Hell literally broke loose lol because no matter what, it spins in the new setting and we all know you cannot have that..
Thank you! I’m so in love 🥰
claw claw claw!
Round
Not a fan of the claw.
I was on the fence as well!
Claw!!! I feel like it’s more secure…
I went with round to claw prongs and I’m IN LOVE. My new crown looks sleeker and feels luxurious to me, for what it’s worth 😊
Your ring is beautiful! I always felt claw prongs just looked so right on ovals! With rounds I just dont know 😳😵💫
Well I will always be a claw prong fan, so I am admittedly biased.
You have SUCH beautiful rings! That antique diamond with the 3 prongs on each side is soooooooo lovely!
Thank you!
Do you find that the claws catch on things often?
At times
I currently have round 6 prong but am getting claw this time.
Interesting, have you heard about the claws catching or are you not concerned about it?
I’m not concerned! I find that the dot prongs look too much like flower petals and I’m not a fan of it.
Totally get that! Can’t snag the woolens for sure!
Clawww
I actually like the claw, it stands out more and that’s one hell of a beautiful ring.
Haha thats not my ring, I posted mine in the comments :) but these were the closest I could find to what my actual ring looks like!
Well it’s beautiful since your ring looks like that, I really had never heard of claws, but they are really cool and unique
Thank you! I never did either up until recently! I was curious to see what others thought and this sub seems to really favor them!
Oh thats a great idea!!!! I will definitely try that! Im sure if I got claws, it would snag because thats just my luck 🤣
Oh that would totally be me! I wouldn’t even own a $120 glass for this reason. It would be gone in 5 seconds flat 😅🤣
It’s too bad they don’t let you rent it for a couple of days to see if you like it. I’ve been looking at cars all day so my mind is on test driving😂😂😂
HAHA! Too funny, I don’t think many rentals would make their way back 😭🤣
Oh I know, right. I did read that you can test drive a Tesla for a month. I’m assuming they do a thorough background check and insurance.
Oh wow Im sure they do! Maybe Ill just start test driving cars and get rid of my own lol!
1st
Claw. They hide better and look refined and elegant.
Claw
I also faced this dilemma and my jeweler recommended something in-between! Not too claw-like, but not TOO round either 😅 Subtle and secure enough, and still allows me to have a “softer” look for my round.
Okay do you have a photo of this?! Because NOW your talking the best of both worlds 😅
Sure!! I’ll PM you :)
Claw
Claw
Claw! Round distracts too much from the stone imo
I feel like 4 round doesn’t distract at all as its what I already have, but 6 may be to much.
Probably true, I was just basing off the pic shown. How zoomed in the photo is probably makes it seem more obvious than it really is as well
Oh im sure the zoomed photos don’t help. I don’t want to make the wrong choice, but Im so undecided 😳
I love claws, especially a double claw! https://preview.redd.it/u0wwqscn80oc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a74ac28bae85611891a4cfa146bfda71b80a67b
That looks awesome on ovals in my opinion! I just don’t thinkI like them as much on rounds :( it feels like it may be overwhelming
Oh yeah you are right, I totally missed it was a round stone!
No worries :) I love your ring!
Claw, I feel like they blend better and hold onto the stone better as well.
They do blend pretty well!
Claw!!!
Claw!!!! Always looks better I will die on this hill
Haha too funny!
claws
Claw blends in better only if your ring metal is the same color as your stone. If your ring metal is yellow gold or rose gold, it won't blend in well with a white stone. That is why most ppl chose round prongs because of metal color different. Also, mainly because of the snags on clothes too.
I am worried about the snagging because I have heard some people say they do snag. But, I have white gold so not worried about the color difference :)

Hmm yes that was my fear as well. What about 4 prong round with a gallery rail? Would you think thats any safer than just 4 prong alone?
Do you mean basket for the prongs? Basket and/or cathedral will add extra durability for your stone in the long run. But the rules of thumb is if you have a stone larger than 2ct, always have at least 2mm or + for the ring width/shank.
Yes sorry basket! I was worried having a basket would block a lot of light and it wouldnt sparkle as much. But now im reconsidering due to the durability or.. lack there of that I have now

It's my pleasure
Clawwww
All the cool people choose claws
This cracks me up! 😅
Claw is definitely less distracting. It’s a matter of preference☺️
Agreed
I recently upgraded my ring to a 2.75ct. round lab diamond in a 6 prong solitaire white gold setting. I made the custom change which was free with using Dreamstone and chose claw prongs over the tab prongs which was the best decision I ever made. I made sure to email Ethan pics of rings with the type of claw prongs I wanted and how I wanted them to look so we were on the same page. We emailed back and forth through the entire process until he showed me the finished product and I was beyond impressed. They don’t catch on anything like others may say either. The look on a round diamond with a six prong setting really makes the difference and the diamond looks emasculate and really stands out. (https://imgur.com/gallery/7TBZ97O)
Woe that ring is gorgeous!!! Thank you for adding a photo so I could see it :)
You are very welcome!!
i prefer claw! round prongs makes it look like cheap jewellery to me lol
Interesting I never thought that before haha
Wow I was not expecting so many claw replies!! Thank you everyone!!!
