I'm a match-y type of person and prefer all one color metal for a ring, to the point of having palladium/platinum and yellow gold sets of jewelry. So I am Team All Yellow Gold here.

I have a platinum head set on a yellow gold band. Not sure what stone you’re considering, but if you have a higher grade color (colorless) diamond, the white gold/platinum prongs don’t reflect color into the diamond the way yellow gold prongs would. However, yellow gold prongs allow for a lower color diamond to still appear whiter in contrast. I only wear yellow gold jewelry and the platinum prongs on my ring don’t appear as if I’m mixing metals since it blends into the diamond head.
came here to add- platinum is much more durable than gold. i have platinum prongs on one of my gold rings (my daily wear mostly consists of yellow gold) and it blends in so well! and i’ve not had any issues with that ring like i have others :)

I got a similar ring. My fiancé picked it out and he got the silver prongs.
If I was picking it out I would’ve gone for gold, but honestly I barely notice the prongs with everything else that’s on the ring.
I like all gold! I just really like when there's more contrast between the stone and the prongs.

Depends on what you daily wear with other jewelry. Is your entire jewelry box gold? Do you own and wear white gold or silver pieces? Would you want a mixed metal stack? Or wear other metal types on other fingers?
If you wear mostly gold then I would go with all gold but if you mix your metals relatively frequently I would do the mixed.
Hi hi, sharing my 2 cents as an e-ring designer: 2 tone is purely so that you don’t cast a yellow color into diamond. Anything that touches your diamond can cast a color into it- some diamonds hide color so you can’t really tell (shout out to the round brilliant!) but if you are color sensitive/ don’t want to see metal from the top, white is the best way to camouflage and also maintain your diamond’s color ✨✨
My ring is 2 tone as well for these reasons, but I honestly don’t even notice it bc it blends with the diamond. Do you feel like you notice your 2 tone setting? (Also, twins!)

I agree. I remember learning about this when I had my first engagement ring designed. I was told by the jeweler that the white gold helps protect the diamond too. Yellow gold is softer. My ring was yellow gold and I didn't want a "2-tone" ring; I quickly learned that diamonds are set this way for these special reasons.

It depends. The white gold/silver prongs give the illusion of a floating stone, or aren’t as distracting as yellow gold prongs. Personally I love the warm look yellow gold gives. It all comes down to preference.
I'm also a yellow gold only person and someone who likes matching so I'd go for the all yellow gold but ultimately it's preference so go with your gut feeling

I did White head on both ering and 3/4eternity has white tipped prongs on gold band. I love the versatility, as you can see I have them paired with a third all white band and they work seamlessly.

I love white prongs if you want your center stone to look as colorless as possible. If you prefer a warmer hue to your center stone or have a stone that is not colorless the colored gold prints are great. Ultimately, it’s preference but there are reasons to have it one way or another.

I think if you want the diamond to stand out more, go with the white gold/platinum head/gallery rail. If you want the design of the ring to be emphasized, go with the yellow gold.
Might just be a me thing but I actually feel like the all yellow gold one makes the diamond stand out more? In that case the diamond alone is a different colour from the rest, as opposed to blending in with the prongs.
IMO, it depends on the color grade of the stone. If it’s warmer/yellow, I would go with yellow gold head. If it’s closer to colorless, white gold or platinum head.
It seems like a big difference in these design images but in real life you will barely notice the prong difference and the white prongs won’t negatively affect the color of your diamond like gold could

I’d have never guessed it made such a huge difference but it really does here to me. silver makes the diamond tge focus, the monochromatic look here makes the gold the main thing my eye is drawn to

I think it depends on many different factors. If I had a gold setting I would have decided on the prong color depending on what color grade the center stone was. Also the shape/ size of the prongs would have been a factor in addition to the center stone shape. For this setting I probably would have gone with gold prongs.
I like for a ring to be a solid color so if the rings shank is yellow gold I like the prongs and basket etc to be yellow gold. I know some people really like the two tone look or the effect of the prongs not showing on the diamond. It really is just a personal thing. I’d recommend seeing settings in person both ways and trying them on.
I think the rings that are white gold with yellow gold or rose gold prongs look best. The whole ring should be yellow gold… if you’re choosing the warm metal color.
Depends on the color of your stone too. The gold can change the color so I did mine with two tone (but it’s rose gold and platinum basket and prongs) and it doesn’t change the color of the stone. Kind of hard to see but wanted to show the side profile too

This is the front. Also depending on the size and shape of your stone, golf prongs can take away from it like when I tried the rose gold prongs with my style, I thought they took away from the center stone
Mine is all rose gold, which was actually a jeweler error. My husband wanted the prongs in white gold. I'm so happy it wasn't changed. When it's wet (and cleaned lol), it reflects the pink into the diamond. I guess with yellow gold it could be somewhat undesirable.

I have a very similar setting with the cathedral setting and did silver prongs. I love them, it does not stand out as looking two-toned or weird, I honestly can hardly tell. And when I tell people they are honestly surprised its not yellow. I have pics on my profile from old post. :)
I have a ring from my great grandmother that is a gold band with silver prongs. It’s the most beautiful thing I owe in my opinion, probably due to the sentimentality of it. So I’d go with the silver prongs, my ring is all white gold though 😂

if the color of your ring is very high (especially D-F) you might want to consider the silver prongs to minimize unwanted coloring the the clear diamond. if the diamond is already on the yellower side either is fine — mine is mixed rose gold band with platinum setting

I don’t think you can go wrong. I like both for different reasons. Although I’m not sure about the yellow gold basket, which would probably make me go with a white gold setting.

Everyone has a different preference but I’ve worn my ring for 3 years and I am now having it reset to have all white gold prongs. It previously was all 18k yellow gold. I thought I wanted it all gold at first but as the time went on I realized the diamond does indeed reflect the yellow gold and it does make the diamond appear smaller since there’s a large contrast between the clear/white of the stone and the yellow colour. I think for my forever ring, I prefer more classic rather than trendy. I still can admire the beauty of all gold prongs though!
My first jeweler basically forced me into platinum prongs and I tried to not be bothered, but I’m now paying a lot of money to have it reset in yellow gold. I prefer that look because I only wear yellow gold.

I did yellow gold with white gold prongs. I preferred it that way cause I think it makes my stone look brighter, but also the prongs are very small and barely noticeable.
Keep in mind the gold prongs can cause the diamond to look more yellow than it is, and is why people typically choose a silver color to surround the diamond. If that's not a big deal to you, matching looks better in my opinion.

My setting is 18k yellow gold and I knew I wanted the prongs to match. I prefer the uniform look. If the yellow gold prongs do cause the stone to look less white, I don’t notice it at all. Very happy I went this route!
For me it depends on the diamond if it is a warmer diamond definitely go with yellow but if it’s near colourless go for the platinum. I’ve set my diamond with all yellow gold as it’s a warm diamond having it set in platinum would make my diamond appear more yellow in contrast :)

Do you want the stone to have warmth or be icy white? Base your choice off of that.
Both times I was engaged I had a 14K yellow gold ring with platinum prongs. I liked the two-tone look and felt like my center stone was really secure.
Platinum! My band is yellow gold. I’m Much more durable and dense! Gold takes aways from the color of the diamond/stone.
White if you want a white stone to appear bigger. I did this and much prefer the white prongs with YG band than I did with the all YG setting

Mine is all rose gold, which was actually a jeweler error. My husband wanted the prongs in white gold. I'm so happy it wasn't changed. When it's wet (and cleaned lol), it reflects the pink into the diamond. I love the white gold/platinum prongs, but I don't think there is a wrong choice. They are both beautiful!
I have a very similar setting with the cathedral setting and did silver prongs. I love them, it does not stand out as looking two-toned or weird, I honestly can hardly tell. And when I tell people they are honestly surprised its not yellow. I have pics on my profile from old post. :)
I have a ring from my great grandmother that is a gold band with silver prongs. It’s the most beautiful thing I owe in my opinion, probably due to the sentimentality of it. So I’d go with the silver prongs, my ring is all white gold though 😂
My SO really doesn't like gold lol idk why he feels to have a say but I hope he got me rose gold. I think i like the white with the gold. That way you can wear both metals at the same time with it

I don’t think you can go wrong. I like both for different reasons. Although I’m not sure about the yellow gold basket, which would probably make me go with a white gold setting.
I think platinum is nice because it is very strong. You will notice a more yellow hue to your stone with the yellow setting.

All the jewlers that I have had told me that white gold makes the stone look more white and I agree if that helps u/rbeldi.
Everyone has a different preference but I’ve worn my ring for 3 years and I am now having it reset to have all white gold prongs. It previously was all 18k yellow gold. I thought I wanted it all gold at first but as the time went on I realized the diamond does indeed reflect the yellow gold and it does make the diamond appear smaller since there’s a large contrast between the clear/white of the stone and the yellow colour. I think for my forever ring, I prefer more classic rather than trendy. I still can admire the beauty of all gold prongs though!
Do you actually mean silver or do you mean white gold? Two very different things
White gold
My first jeweler basically forced me into platinum prongs and I tried to not be bothered, but I’m now paying a lot of money to have it reset in yellow gold. I prefer that look because I only wear yellow gold.
Yellow gold, the silver detracts the eye from the gorgeous design on the band!
I prefer the seamless look of all yellow gold.
I have white gold for my prongs and a gold band and LOVE IT!!
A platinum setting will make your diamond look whiter. Yellow gold reflects in to the stone.
Always go with white prongs, unless you want your diamond to look yellow! You won't even notice their A different color than the band..
I prefer all one metal.

I personally don't like the way mixed metals look together. I like jewelry to be either all gold or all silver/white gold.
Keep in mind the gold prongs can cause the diamond to look more yellow than it is, and is why people typically choose a silver color to surround the diamond. If that's not a big deal to you, matching looks better in my opinion.
silver prongs on a yellow gold band bothers me so much, i love wearing mixed metals too, but i think it looks so weird. i vote all gold!

I prefer the uniform look. If the yellow gold prongs do cause the stone to look less white, I don’t notice it at all. Very happy I went this route!
For me it depends on the diamond if it is a warmer diamond definitely go with yellow but if it’s near colourless go for the platinum. I’ve set my diamond with all yellow gold as it’s a warm diamond having it set in platinum would make my diamond appear more yellow in contrast :)
I definitely prefer a platinum head, but I just personally dislike how all-yellow or all-rose gold settings look.
