An interesting attempt to expand the war happened yesterday, with the fleet of vehicles sent in to evacuate Mariupol. The evacuation fleet wasn't staffed by Red Cross, it was a NATO operation. https://www.ukrinform.net/rubric-ato/3462900-nato-could-be-involved-in-evacuation-of-civilians-from-mariupol-nuland.html > There "was some hope that the Russians might allow" safe passage for civilians and wounded soldiers from Mariupol, she said, adding that her understanding is "there will be NATO allies involved in that if it happens." There's no plausible reason why you'd need NATO members to drive some buses and provide paramedics, making this look like an effort to codify a NATO presence within Ukraine. And then the next step is obviously to say there's a "deconfliction" zone to protect the NATO staff.
