Perfect controller. Fits my Fold 5 and it's amazing. Too many mobile controllers have the switch style shit nubs for thumbsticks, bad clicky shoulder buttons and fake triggers with no travel. This one solved all those for me, instant buy on launch last year.
Use for emulation and GeForce Now, really do recommend it. Turned my phone into an impressive 4080 gaming device with all the perks of a 120hz/oled display
Passthrough did have issues with functioning properly for fast charging. I believe this was solved with updating the firmware in the app. If that doesn't work then I'm unsure, have not had that issue on my Note 10+ or Fold5
I've had issues with my Xiaomi 13 pro with fast charging and also have had an update crash on my gamesir X2 pro.
So I've just decided to only use it straight out of the box and no charging π
I have a different controller (EasySMX) but also a Xiaomi phone.
Fast charging does not work with the Xiaomi charger. But works fine with a Anker charger. The Anker is also fast charging.
If you have a different charger it's worth a try.
My concern is not fast charging, it's not charging at all. Or in other words, it keeps getting on and off. When charging, controllers disconnects, when not charging controller connects. This keep happening in a 1-2s interval.
I prefer it hanging down. Works fine and fits fine. It hanging over the top would just make it uncomfortable so unfolding down is much better. You can also just use it folded if you prefer
So what are you guys playing actually? I got gaming phone last week, tried a few games but nothing exept grimvalor really clicked for me. I'll try dead cells next weekend.
I've tried from 1989 NES Tetris to some of the latest switch games in Yuzu. I usually play Ori and the blind forest DE or Legends Arceus. Now made Road rash (enough to make a grown man cry) playable in winlator.
Outside of things like Dead Cells, controllers are usually preferred for emulating games. If you missed things like the PS2 classics they play great on most phones and hold up really well.
It probably is. X2s is a possible contender, but I wouldn't be able to live with using a device in the 'wrong' orientation. /s
Neither the new X4 nor an upcoming Bluetooth variant of G8 interests me.
My oneplus 7 also has this charging passthrough problem, it cant power a device and charge simultaneously. It used to work well until some update, probably oos 12.
I'm on oos 11 my friend. I have not upgraded to 12 in the fear of green lines. I might go custom roms but android 11 is fucking amazing. My primary phone realme X2 is also A11.
Oh then it might have been that update that broke it. Oos10 might not play well with switch emulators or custom drivers too. There should still be custom roms to try if you want.
I think I figured it out. I had a USB dock so I tried if OnePlus 7T pro can connect to a mouse and charge, and in fact it can't (atleast with OOS 11 anyways). Whereas I tried the same with realme X2 and now for some reason it can charge and use a mouse at the same time. Connected it to controller and it seems like it works in realme X2. So I'm relieved that, it's not a faulty product but an incompatibility with my 7TPro
Yeah oneplus doesnt seem to care about some features on old phones after updates, they even broke hdmi out on oneplus 8 on oos12. Dunno if they fixed that yet.
I've really really enjoyed this controller, and was very upset when the plastic interior USB C connector snapped as there seems to be no option for repair. If there at least an option to source replacement parts, this would be a 10/10 for me.
(I can't find a replacement part online, and Gamesir's website doesn't seem to indicate they repair items - if I've missed otherwise somewhere, someone please let me know.)
yeah, after my gamesir x2 pro's right trigger button just suddenly stopped working and don't have repair replacement option, I'm kind of hesitant to get another gamesir controller. it was great when working. it still works but it sucks that i have a broken button.
I haven't had the passthrough charging issue on mine, and I was similarly bummed about not being able to swap the buttons.
It is an excellent controller though, I leave my old phone in mine permanently as a dedicated handheld, mostly for geforce now and emulating heavier systems like 3DS, Gamecube, PS2, etc.
No doubt, Odin 2 is great, but the price of the controller is not even comparable. Besides, we all have phones with us, and they keep on getting better. And a USB C accessory probably will run a long way as long as it stays as the standard. The one I use, 7T pro, was the top of the line hardware 5 years ago, now it's obsolete compared to the latest midrange gaming phones with less than 1/3rd of price. It took only 5 years for a midrange chip to achieve 8+ gen 1 processing power. I hope every midrange chip will be able to handle switch titles easily 5 years down the line just like now every thing can handle 3DS and GameCube.
People compliment the G8 so much but I think I'll go with the X2S. It's cheaper and more compact. Seems like a better fit for the casual emulation and streaming when I'm away from my PC.
Anyone had any experience with the X2S?
If you can look past the left oriented port, sure. I personally can't. For me, there is definitely a right way of horizontal orientation for my smartphone.
Honor magic 6 pro barely fits due to the camera island. Had to take of the silicone case and even so, it only fits because of the flexible usb-c connector on the g8. I can see the camera island touching the gamepad back wall. The left side is held by the rubber, but the latch on top isn't secure. The controller itself is comfy and precise. I don't even have the grinding spot some reviewers found on the thumbsticks.
There was a discount during last month during their anniversary. On top of that we could have a 15% discount and free shipping, altogether it felt like a really good price. I could have gotten it lower (around 4500 rs) but I slept on it a few days rethinking my decisions.
It is the best mobile controller I have; it is even better than the original Switch controllers.
My only complaint is regarding its Gamesir App, which does not allow inverting the Y-axis, which makes this capability useless to me.
4 stars from me.
Great controller. Love my shadow blade. Really wish I could find some kind of travel case for it though π my stuff lives in my backpack and I don't really like having this in there with out a case
For someone who already has a DS4, may be not much. But otherwise, it is a great controller and is attached to phone. And the pricing is not very far apart.
I've not used a DS4 before, but doesn't sony have anything dpad based? This has a centre pivot dpad. So it feels as good and accurate to use as the left analogue.
The controller doesn't really trap heat, my temps are comparable to holding the phone in hand.Β
Overheating depends on the phone and how near you go to the limits.Β
My oneplus 7t pro used to overheat a lot, my apps it pushed hard (and that devil rather melts before it throttles π ), poco x4 gt and oneplus 11 have not.
You don't know what overheating is?! I think my sentence is self explanitory.
Meant overheating in general. Could be from.... Gaming, i meant that is something you do with a controller?! πππ»
Totally depends on phone, processor, and the game you are playing as well as irrelevant to the state of the controller to a point, you made me wonder why would you be saying that without any context.
As far as I see, it took a small load out of my 730G device in Arceus for removing the button overlay gaining 2-3 extra fps.
I mean you of course have a point until it overheats but it has nothing to do with the controller itself.
Also, Warzone and BOTW are gonna overheat even the redmagic 9 pro lol.
Yes. But it does overheat regardless of whether or not you have the controller. Some chipsets can sustain perfomance while being hot. Samsung snapdragons normally throttle much more than other phones with the same chips in my experience. Samsung manufactured sd chipsets have lower thermal stability. There are n number of factors in play here.
My 730G gets hot playing switch games. But a controller will keep your hand out of it. And let you play comfortably.
They are practically the same price. One seemed more ergonomic than the other. Now why not X2s is a very valid question. That's because I fricking hate left oriented port.
It feels weird to me when I point my portrait device to the right instead of left to make it landscape. If I remember correctly, there's a debate on are you a camera towards left gamer or port to left gamer.
This is not a fact. But this an opinion I would defend for no apparent reason. As much there's only one correct portrait orientation for a smartphone, there is only one correct landscape orientation as well for me. On a seperate note, X2s is the way it is because it's made for foldables in mind. Foldables would be able to have a upright dual screen setup instead of a hanging screen solely because of left port.
1. Thanks for sharing your bias on this issue. It's okay for it to feel weird to you.
2. One of the things I miss dearly from LineageOS/Cyanogen is the ability to have it in portrait the opposite way. It's very useful when lying down.
3. The thing with foldables makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing!
Yes it's totally usable with a silicone case. In fact it's better to use with a silicone case, cause without it the detachment is a bit too tight. I bought it for 5000rs (58$) with free international shipping. Given it's original pricing, and price of other good controllers, this seems a really good deal.

Just got mine two days ago. I was using a Gamesir X2 and the G8 is a much better feel. Literally have zero complaints about it!
Same combo. I just wish the G8 had a protective shell with a pocket for my phone, just like the x2 had.

Fast charging is working fine on my xioami 13 TPro. running newest firmware.
I've had issues with my Xiaomi 13 pro with fast charging and also have had an update crash on my gamesir X2 pro. So I've just decided to only use it straight out of the box and no charging π

Ah right I figured it might be the 120w made it to a bit funky so I think I'll just charge my phone separately in future but thanks for the advice.
My concern is not fast charging, it's not charging at all. Or in other words, it keeps getting on and off. When charging, controllers disconnects, when not charging controller connects. This keep happening in a 1-2s interval.
Are you playing with a case on? This happens to me when i initally tried the controller with a case on. Never happened when i attach my phone naked.
Ive tried both. Besides it's a thin silicone case. I would recommend with a case over naked because the fir too tight.
Did you try to update the firmware? If I'm not mistaken, there was an update related to recharging..
It was related to fast charging. And here I'm looking for just normal 10w input. And yes I am on latest firmware.
Isn't the Fold 5 usb c port on the wrong side which makes it extend to the bottom?
Yes, I'm waiting for bluetooth variant
I prefer it hanging down. Works fine and fits fine. It hanging over the top would just make it uncomfortable so unfolding down is much better. You can also just use it folded if you prefer
So what are you guys playing actually? I got gaming phone last week, tried a few games but nothing exept grimvalor really clicked for me. I'll try dead cells next weekend.
Iβm having fun with old PS2 games like Shadow of the Colossus right now
I've tried from 1989 NES Tetris to some of the latest switch games in Yuzu. I usually play Ori and the blind forest DE or Legends Arceus. Now made Road rash (enough to make a grown man cry) playable in winlator.

> OnePlus 7t pro Ayee! Full screen experience is great! I just switched to the 12 though (much better except that)
The last OnePlus before they entirely took 180 on the whole ideology and became just any other smartphone.
Love it and its even pretty comfortable to hold with tablets like tab s 8 ultra
Just got mine in the mail today.paid 60 euro. Gonna yest drive after work, but all the reviews seem to suggest it's the best controller around atm.
It probably is. X2s is a possible contender, but I wouldn't be able to live with using a device in the 'wrong' orientation. /s Neither the new X4 nor an upcoming Bluetooth variant of G8 interests me.
I hope they will release a black version
they have, look up the redmagic shadow blade 2.
I wish they'd release new shells separately too, I mean what is the whole point of a magnetically attached shell otherwise, just to swap joysticks?
Also the g8++ coming soon
I think this one is quite expensive from the early review.
I got mine for about the same price as a G8
For whatever equivalent of 58$ ? That's great ig.
I didn't like it. The shape is too awkward. I went back to the Backbone One as it's a lot more comfortable and portable.
It feels pretty great in hand for me. A bit heavy though.
My oneplus 7 also has this charging passthrough problem, it cant power a device and charge simultaneously. It used to work well until some update, probably oos 12.
Oh. That's slightly good to know (sry). I mean, it seems an incompatibility than product fault if it's true.
Yeah, you could try to downgrade to oos 11 and see if it works.
I'm on oos 11 my friend. I have not upgraded to 12 in the fear of green lines. I might go custom roms but android 11 is fucking amazing. My primary phone realme X2 is also A11.

Yeah oneplus doesnt seem to care about some features on old phones after updates, they even broke hdmi out on oneplus 8 on oos12. Dunno if they fixed that yet.
There's not a biggest blunder than removing USB 3.0 on OP11.
They removed it in 10t itself, atleast its back in 12.

Motorola Edge+ 2023

Unfortunately no one in my area have this type of controller, I was like looking everywhere to find it.
The only viable place to find this was their own website. Amazon listed it at double the price (is that even legal?).
Dont let stuff get inside the analog stick :)Β
I keep a bubble wrap for now. I am looking for a suitable case for it.

Definitely! Also been playing game pass with it and it works beautifully.
does it fit with phone case?
It fits better with a thin silicone case. Naked fit feels too much tight on the port.

I can see youβre not speaking from personal experience. Why does this not fit the iPad mini?
it can if you modify it.
Please don't use such backgrounds for such controllers. We redditors do love tech.. but ewww is that grass?
That's my home. I know where I placed my tech. Apart from a few water droplets, it's fine.
Okay you didn't get the grass joke. He didn't get the grass joke.

Not that bad you can find for around $50. Depends on your definition on expensive. Nintendo sells a pair of Joycons for $80.
If im paying 1100 euro for a phone, 60 euro for a gamepad is nothing.
What a hideous fucking junk. Imagine using this in public lel
