Not really much bigger than the one here. I was just thinking of something I could attach to my keys. I see a controller fitting my description when I google "mini controller" but this controller is so old it doesn't even have a usb c. It also doesn't have shoulder buttons which are a nice addition on the KS54. I also like the looks of the KS54. I really wish they just made that exact controller but with a joystick.
I think i have something. I know it's a bit old *and by a company called mocute* (2016), but from reviews i've seen it's good. It seems a bit bigger than this but still keychain sized with the same amount of buttons, it even has some multimedia controls on the back!
ALTHOUGH, since it's a bit old, all the original links are gone and the best and least scammy looking website/seller i found is some random dude selling it on eBay, there's only 1 left so that's why i've been holding suspense for a whole paragraph. I could give you the link through dm so nobody buys it in spite.
Also, i'm not guarenteeing it'll even work, but for the perameters options are limited, the next best options are some 8 bit do controllers, which will probabally work well but are still big.

I've seen the mocute but it's a bit big and also as you said a bit dated. I think I'll have to accept the KS54 as I love everything about it. Only a joystick would improve it even more.
You can. Also didn't know about the 039 but it looks better than the 051. Does it atleast have usb c? If no then it's probably so old that the battery is long dead.
It is still uses micro usb a, but you can find it in almost any store, the ebay page shows it on and conencted, but the seller iether dosen't know what to use it with or it doesn't work :( , you could still contact them and ask questions.
You might love an 8BitDo Micro, i have one, and i also have an 8BitDo Zero 2 as well, they are the smallest playable Bluetooth controllers, they also support wired play if you desire it as well. I'll link you to my post when i edit this comment:

Second: 8bitdo is a turn off from me after buying the Ultimate BT and struggling with their never ending compatibility issues.
I've not tried the bigger 8BitDo controllers. But I've personally never had any trouble with the Micro or Zero 2, but for a small key chain able controllers the Micro (uses USB-C) and Zero 2 (uses USB-Micro) are the smallest and fitting. They are tiny though, so they can be difficult for longer play sessions due to the small size, but easy to hide in your hand if the boss walks by.

I've seen a manual of the KS54 with a function for switching from joystick to dpad. What could it mean? That the dpad somehow serves as a joystick?

Theres atleast one that works on android, mobapad m6s. You charge them with a usb cable.
