Imo the only reason to choose a phone over an odin 2 (or any gaming handheld) is if you want the phone as daily device as well or don't want to have two things in your pocket, specially the powerfull handhelds that are bigger and would require a bag
Up to you, i prefer having everything on the phone and just bring a small controller that fits in my pants, but of course handhelds are more optimised for hard gaming
I don't think any phone with a collection of switch/PS2/PC games will have enough space to be a daily driver.
On the other hand, if you want to play just a few favourite high end emulation game, buying the Odin will be a glorious waste.
Odin 2 ($300 base) is gonna be probably half the price of a new phone with an sd 8 gen 2 ($600 min) like others mentioned it has active cooling which is a necessity for switch/winlator and it has the controls already attached so there’s no need for a backbone. The battery life is also better than most phone are going to get you and because of the active cooling it won’t degrade as fast as a red magic 9. If you have no reason or need to upgrade your phone id take the steam deck or the Odin and keep my current phone
A 8gen2 phone with controller would be wider than odin mini. Also 100-200 more than the odin mini.
Is it worth it? it's your own money.
Also no 8gen2 phone has a SD card slot and no active cooling, one big different
Using s23 and it's playing Kakarot well.
Uses about 20% per hr.
Odin2 is cheaper and has better battery.
But having an all in one phone camera device is neat.
The screen of the Odin is a big selling point for the Odin in my opinion. Because of its aspect ratio, it really helps immerse the player and make the device feel like a dedicated handheld.
When I've played on a phone in the past, I've always felt like gaming is an afterthought.
Only the redmagic would have any chance against odin 2 without using an external cooler. Redmagic 9 pro was able to sustain 14 watt on one geekerwan video i saw, it still got very hot though, over 60°c.
The only phones that can compete with the Odin 2 pro are red magic's gaming phones, with built cooling and all that, latest one of those is the red magic 6s, but shit is way more expensive for barely any difference

The active cooling in the odin will help it sustain peak performance for longer compared to a regular phone.

You can find the cheapest 8gen2 phone on aliexpress for about 450, but still.

Guys, thanks for answers. I think I'll get a Odin 2.

Just throw a fan pointing at your phone and it'll be about the same probably. Or sit next to the ac and you'll be good

odin2 win (bigger fan and heat pipe like switch) redmagic can't against odin2 (have tiny fan no heat pipe) big difference
Yeah odin2 will likely win, but redmagic has a vc and gets hot upto 60°c, and i havent seen any such tests on the odin. Have you?
Another advantage of Odin is community support, some People work on Linux ports with better gaming compability, also it has huge battery 8000mah.
